Ok going to be really brief with these now. We got to Mexico City on good friday. For 20 million people, the City was really quiet as most people go away for there Easter Holidays. We went out, did a tour of the City, and had a great night out Friday and Saturday night, and had birthday drinks and a meal for me!!! Saturday night I was supposed to fly to San Francisco, but my flight was cancelled, so instead it was re-arranged for Sunday morning. Will update this more when I can.... [View Full Entry]

We left the hotel at 8.15am, got a cab to the bus station and then caught the Bus for a 5.5 hour journey to our next City, Pueblo. Puebla has 365 churches, and a 1.5 million population, a big City again. The bus journey was pretty smooth, and the scenery had changed a little, more cactuses and desert land, with some mini twisters spinning across the desert floor. We watched a good film on the bus called Good Advices, with Charlie Sheen. Arriving at the hotel around 1.30pm, we had a fantastic lunch close by, chicken soup for starters, spaghetti, and [View Full Entry]

The Ado overnight bus was a long 12 hour journey, but it went really fast. The bus is fairly luxurious, plenty of room, complimentory drinks, and films, we watched Terminator 3 and Pirates of The Caribbean! I couldn't get to slepp however. We pulled in to Oaxaca as the sun began to rise, and got a taxi from the bus station to our hotel, arriving around 8.30am, and its now Tuesday 11th April. Most of the day was spent by me sleeping. Once caught up, I went around the City centre, and its quite a big place, 1 million population apparently. [View Full Entry]

We left Palenque on Saturday morning, the 16th, and caught the bus to take us on to San Cristobal. It again was a beautiful hot day, and the journey took around 5 hours. We checked in to the hotel, San Martin, which was close to the main square. The town is a pleasant place, there are many small streets, all cobbled, which many local run shops. The first thing to notice here is that almost every drives an old Volkswagen Beetle, I have seen a few around Central America, but they are here in abundance, and are very cool ( wouldn't [View Full Entry]

The bus journey from Merida to Palenque was long. We set off at 8.30am, and arrived in Palenque at 6pm. We then got a taxi from the bus station to our lodgings, the Don Mucho cabins. The site is made up of cabins which is pretty much in the jungle. Its a really cool place, and the cabins are extremely comfortable. We checked in, and then had a meal in the restaurant, where there was a live band, and flame throwers for entertainment, and was very good. We sat and chatted to the other travellers that were there ( which there [View Full Entry]

We departed Playa del Carmen and caught the 7.30am bus, and made our way to Merida. On route to Merida, we stopped to have a look at the ruins in Chichen Itza. The ruins are very impressive, on on a big site. In the main part is a huge temple, and if you stand around the temple and clap your hands, the peak of the temple makes the noise of a bird. Im not sure if this was a design or coincidence ( my research in to the Mayans has been totally nothing ), but its pretty impressive nonetheless. There is [View Full Entry]

Thursday 30th March. We caught the 7.30am Water Taxi from Caye Caulker, and made our way back to Belize City marina. From the City, it was a 3/4 hour bus journey to the Belize/Mexican border. We crossed and were meeted with a huge sign across the road 'Welcome to Mexico, North America'. My Central American journey had now come to an end. We jumped back on the bus, which took us on to the town of Chetumel, and the bus station. A wait for 45 minutes, and then our next bus, and this time a 6.5 hour journey to our next [View Full Entry]

We left the Trek Stop, San Ignacio at 7am, and caught a public bus which took us through the Belize capital Belmopan, and on to Belize City. From the Marina in Belize City, it was a speed boat trip to the Island of Caye Caulker. We arrived at around 2pm, to the Indigo waters and palms trees. Paradise!!! Belize has the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world, so here is a snorkerlers paradise too. After checking in to the hotel, I walked up the main road, had lunch, and then hired a Kayak, and went out to sea. It was [View Full Entry]

After crossing the border and getting the usual stamps in the Passport, we made our way by taxi to our next base. The Trek Stop is 15 minutes from the border, and close to the town of San Ignacio ( 10 mins on bus ). This is apparently a very popular place for travellers. The Trek Stop consists of wooden chalets for its guests, in the forest, where the Owners who run and work on the site, John and Judy, a fantastic couple nearing their 70's, have set up a facsinating musuem on wildlife. There is the odd lizard and birds [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Flores after an uncomfortable journey in the afternoon. The main point in coming to Flores was to visit the huge Mayan ruins in Tikal. For me, after discovering the Incan empire, and visiting Copan, I decided not to go to Tikal, ruined out by now! Flores is a small Island and is just for the tourists who do go to Tikal, so its littered with all the touristy gift shops, and not much else goes on here. It is fairly relaxing, so after a walk around the Island, that night we headed out for the usual meal, a [View Full Entry]
