still in joburg. enjoying the freedom, the feeling of -wow- we do not have to put up with extreme negativity and hatred today!! it is still haunting us, i must say, when we speak of what may have happened if we had stayed in that awful place.. now i do not mean phsyical harm, but manipulation and exploitation can do just as much damage..and that is not why i am here, in Mzansi, this beautiful country and that is not why Elisha came out to join me. Thank you to my friends and family and her family for the supportive comments. we are happy and are planning to continue on a positive journey. enjoyed a day at a local craft market...also enjoyed a visit to the Museum Africa in the cultural district of Joburg. They had ... read more

Sometimes things change and you do not know when they started changing and then all of the sudden you are asking yourself, what the hell happened? All I can say and I will try to keep it short is that the location we were recently "employed" at started getting weird man... in a few strange ways and things were appearing and masks were removed... and that is the best way to put it I think. Hatred and anger and yelling and lies and dark secrets... all became worse and worse and the atmosphere became clouded with negativity and judgement and words were said and you know what? People like that can stay in their little world and hate the rest and hate it until they hate to death and die and no one comes to their ... read more

Elisha and I love these little gummy candies here..the funny thing is that they are gummy booze... port, wine, rum, gin etc etc.. but they just taste like gummy bears.. there is not much to update at this point as we have just been swamped at the lodge and working hard... we have not been able to get anywhere too exciting since Predator World. Elisha is apparently working miracles in the office and Antoinette says she did not think anyone could organise her chaos as well as she has. quite a nice thing to say... I am so happy with her and her willingness to adapt and try...not that we are roughing it in any way... The plan is this Sunday or Monday to head to Pilanesberg Game Park and spend the day there... I cannot ... read more

I would like to start by saying thanks to all my great family and friends in Texas for the nice and warming comments. It means a lot and you know, if you know me, I am not just saying that... I have yet to take Elisha to a real game park yet..that is coming soon. Probably within the next 2 weeks we shall be taking a nice trip to Pilanesburg...I cannot wait to see her face when that first group of majestic giraffes lumbers by the vehicle looking in at us in the same way we look back at them...and the most beautiful beast of them all, the giant elephant... It will be an experience that she will never forget...I know it. We did go to Predator World, which collects all of the big cats of ... read more

Mom- yes indeed but it is comfortable haha. Steven- thanks for keeping up with it all! take care. America- those were good times! I hate shoes. Jeremy and J- email me. --------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a sunny Friday morning, with the bird calls and everything and the the sky was telling stories of days gone by.... those Turkish guys had just packed up and waved good bye as they drove off in their SUV, kicking the dust and gravel all around. I must say, although the smiles were quite rare with that crowd, they made up for it with the lovely and pounding Turkish coffee, yes it warmed the mouth and then that herbal background noise mixes in...and it is only one thing you know, you say it to yourself... Turkish coffee. straight from Turkey, ground only ... read more

This small white cat that belongs to Jean and Corne has taken a liking to me. she follows me everywhere and is constantly clawing at my legs... she is actually quite adorable but I cannot figure out why she likes me so much... there are some Canadians staying here right now, and it is kinda nice to hear a similar accent. they were surprised as well to find a southern neighbor working here... Sunday is a big day. A big big day. a very special lady arrives via giant air bird in the city of Gold... it is about time! News: - it has been confirmed that the BBC will be broadcasting their pre, during and post- World Cup radio coverage from Hodge Podge Lodge. They came out and surveyed the place...very nice guys. This week slowed down a bit.. but this weekend is bringing another 20 or so guests so it will be hectic again. but i enjoy it...the energy and the randomness, i dont know, it makes life interesting. i have been putting my all into the dishes i create for the guests and they appreciate it... i am combining elements of South African cuisine, which in itself has many styles; plus my love for Asian cuisine, particularly Thai and Vietnamese- and of course some Southern style eats... I am still writing quite a bit, pouring the contents of my brain onto the keys- before I sleep and lose all of these thoughts and they disappear into the clouds as another day begins. stories of the past, the present, ideas, Texas, South Africa, random floors on the road ... read more

Golden fields, pressed against patches of green and amber- the blue sky that fades into the earth and the bright sun reminds me that I am alive. The dirt, the soil is where we started- it is in my blood, your blood- i pick up and squeeze a fistful and I feel truly free. I have left behind the green rolling hills of Natal and am falling in love with the bushveld. The endless mountains that carry on in the distance and touch the ivory clouds , holding close the sun itself! Listen, how else can I say it- this is Africa, this is the bush and the spirit of the wild and all of us... yes I miss you, all of you but , oh!! I feel so alive and the rhythm of the drum, ... read more
