We crossed the state line under a shower, under a gray sky.. it wasn't bad though, really, the air was still warm, but no too warm.. I remember thinking when we stopped at this one rest stop to make use of their facilities- wow, I am so happy to be here.. the weather was actually fine, I wasn't upset about the rain. I was actually excited, not because I hate the heat.. I much prefer it.. but change is always nice. Change of scenery as well.. away from Fort Worth. I love Fort Worth, I have expressed that before.. but I start to feel pained when I stay in one spot for too long.. I want to go back to South Africa, I want to head into Mozambique.. I want to be in New Zealand for ... read more

Momma hits Italy

I have been telling my mom she has to get out of the country for awhile... see something new, experience a new culture, new scenery... Travel is so important, I feel you not only learn more about other cultures when you travel abroad- you learn about yourself, your opinions and what truly matters to you. So here it was... she was invited by long time friends to take a trip to Italy. A friend of a friend has major cash, so on and so forth- basically they would have places to stay, like, POSH places to stay. They would visit multiple cities and sites... I was super thrilled for her to have this chance ( and a bit jealous as well!! ) and was insistent that she not pass up the opportunity. So it was decided- ... read more

Visions of Jo'burg

So I have decided to a series of "city/province focus posts"... wherein I will share photos from whichever place I am focusing on, as well some after thoughts from our time in that area. We have been home for almost 3 months now... seems crazy. I still have not seen a lot of my family, and even some of my friends. I took the job at Whole Foods quite soon after we arrived and with the absurd hours, I was just constantly drained and did a lot of sleeping. But that job is finished (thankfully!) as of yesterday. Jump for joy. johannesburg gets a bad rap worldwide and even within South Africa itself. If you mention Joburg to,say, an American who has never travelled or if they have travelled, they have always stayed at the tourist ... read more

As most people know, I am not actually in Africa anymore. I am back in Texas, the land of open farmland, pride and rich culture. I do love it here. I returned to smiling faces and embraces from friends and family. I have been smothered with love and stories of how greatly I was missed. I still have my wonderful Elisha by my side. I would not have it any other way. Let me tell you, for the first week and a half, we were separated and it was horrible. It felt so strange to not have her next to me at almost all times. I know a lot of people would be driven mad by spending every moment of every day with a person. This is what we did in South Africa. We had to, ... read more

Well I had typed up a nice blog entry, one I was very proud of... full of feelings, thoughts, memories and the like. I let my thoughts of leaving my second home and the experience I shared with Elisha pour onto the keyboard as we listened to music and sat in our friend Jama's house. Now my laptop has decided it cannot open the file. Awesome. If I ever get it to work, I will post it. Otherwise- the rehash super short version is such-- We are now in Doha. The Middle East. It has not quite hit me yet, although I know for certain I am no longer in South Africa. As we sit in the internet/food spot in the Doha airport, with A & W restaurant and TCBY behind us... I am full of ... read more
