Before I begin this journal entry, I would like to apologize for the long delay in postings, there has been a lot of stress and business preparing for my Masters Comprehensive Exams (which I took earlier this week and will have a post about later on) and I have a lot of things to post to catch up with lost time. If you are subscribed I apologize, but you may get a dumping of update e-mails, don't worry the torential postings will stop soon enough! This is a tale about the fickle balance of friends/family and the stress of studing for [View Full Entry]

A Strange Welcome to Wormtown I flew out of Bozeman early Friday morning and arrived in Boston, Massachussetts that evening just in time to grab the silver line bus to South Station to meet Nick, an old high school friend of mine who had come east from Seattle to attend the ceremony and get some R and R as they call it. After Haggiling with the Bostonian vendor at south station I procured myself a fine cuisine of Apple Pop-Over and Nantucket Necter's most precious half and half (1/2 lemonade and 1/2 iced tea, some may know of it by the [View Full Entry]

Nothing helps put life in perspective like a fly by night trip to a wedding in Indianapolis. That Friday, I finished up my mathematical obligations, jumped in the old Toyota Pick Up and drove eastward to the large industrial city of Billings, Montana (former Meth Capital of the US) to catch my flight early Saturday morning so I could be in Indianapolis, Indiana for the wedding Saturday night. I stayed Friday evening with my friend Gretchen Kruesi, a stalwart worker for the Democratic Party during this much contested campaign for the [url=http://www.rasmussenreports.com/2006/State%20Polls/ [View Full Entry]

Looking Over Boz-Angeles.
Two weeks ago, Bozeman was slapped upside the head with a nice cold front that dumped snow up onto the mountains and rain down in the valley. Some friends and myself decided to leave the crisp autumn air and hike up to meet the winter on top of the mountain. We hiked up a way unfamiliar to me, thru Sypes Canyon amongst some mountain bikers and a few hikers, but as we got further and further up to the snow we saw less and less people. It was fairly bizzare to go from the nice mid 60's weather of fall to [View Full Entry]

I kind of feel bad about writing about this hike a month after it occured, but this semester has been quite hectic and busy. This was just a hike up to the top of Hylite mountain around the time of the very large Derby Fire which has burnt over 190000 acres (yep that's four zeros) here in Montana. One thing I will say about this hike is the amount of Waterfalls coming off this mountain were amazing. One in particular was awesome, it must have been over 150 feet of water flowing down the mountain and at the top there w [View Full Entry]

The final carefully crafted expedition of the Summer of 2006 started off on the 10th of August from my homestead here in Bozeman. Off to a late start due to a compulsory tardy friend of ours, I started the first leg of a three leg journey that would take me from Sioux Falls, SD to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota and end at Devil's Tower in Wyoming. Sioux Falls, SD: Bikes, Lakota, Weddings, and Lasers The journey Eastward was fairly uneventful until we hit Sturgis South Dakota in the middle of the Sturgis Motorcycle Ralley. I'm sure thi [View Full Entry]

Here is the record of my first ever Seet Pea Festival Experience. Let me start off by saying it is one of the best eight dollars spent here in Bozeman. For the price of a movie at the theater you can have a whole weekend of theater, dancing, and music out in beautiful Lindley Park here in Bozeman. Things started off Saturday morning with (I missed the evening festivities on Friday) a fairly large parade involving a lot of dinosaurs, old cars, clowns, dancers, horses, and two high school classes celebrating their reunion on parade floats down town. After having a [View Full Entry]

Mom and Dad Shorty came out to Montana for a wild and roaring good time on July 18th-28th. Little did they know what kind of adventure they were getting themselves into! The day they rolled into town I was sitting on my neighbors porch discussing the repercussions of some construction worker who had just poured petrol-chemicals onto our street and hoping they would get washed down the drainage system of Bozeman, ahh the excitement had begun. I introduced my parents to my neighbors and took them out to eat at Old Chicago, a quaint little chain restaurant that perhaps some of [View Full Entry]

Two Mathematicians and a 10 year old Dog Go For A Very Long Walk... ...or at least that's how it started. It sounded like an innocent and splendid plan. A plan to hike the entire length of the Bridger Ridge Run hosted yearly in August by the local Bozeman Running Club, The Wind Drinkers. This is a 19.65 (the short way) or 20.55 (the long way) race across the knifes edge of the Bridger Mountain Range [View Full Entry]

Alphabetical Altitudes I spent the fourth of July at the M this year. For those of you who don't know what the M is, it is a large M constructed into the side of the Bridger Mountains facing Bozeman. This is not an unusual thing in Montana. For some reason almost every city and town in Montana has the abbreviation of their name on some Mountain or Hill right next door. Now I know what you're saying, Bozeman doesn't start with an M, and your primary school teacher would be very happy at your correct observation. The M by Bozeman stands [View Full Entry]
