Chiang Mai!

Published: April 2nd 2012Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Chiang Mai » Doi Suthep

Greetings from Chiang Mai! After thinking we had a couple more days left on Koh Phangan, Joanne realised that we in fact only had one more day left... so we said our goodbyes to our lovely lovely neighbours Ali and Si :( The next morning we packed up our things, and waved goodbye to Laem Son 1, and off we trotted to the port, to start our long journey to Chiang Mai. The whole journey was so easy, thanks to them sticking florescent stickers on us (which made us feel like we were on a special school trip or something) - we had to get the boat, then a bus, then a 12 hour train to Bangkok, then a 12 hour train to Chiang Mai. The stickers were there to show the transport staff which bus/train ... read more

Ta ra Singapore..... hello Thailand! The last three weeks have gone SO fast, it's hard to remember whats happened. Buckets happened, that's for sure, which is probably why I'm struggling to remember what has happened. After landing in Phuket, we decided (with Yui's help) that we would treat our selves to a fancy hotel - for 15 English Pounds each we walked into pure LUXURY. A giant bed, a swimming pool (we had a midnihgt swim) and the most amazing HOT and powerful shower I have ever had the pleasure of stepping into. The next day we went for a bit of an adventure around Phuket, and I love it there. We went up a massive hill (in a tuk-tuk of couse ha) to check out the views and found a massive Buddah up in the ... read more

Ta ra India... hello Singapore!

Our last week in Goa was exhausting.... all that eating, drinking, chatting, swimming in a posh hotel resort, sunbathing... eugh I hope I don't have to do all that again soon ;) I think we picked the best and worst time to go to Goa. Not only were the elections on, which meant two weeks of everything shutting at 10pm, but there was an alcohol ban for three days! Then, we were told Holi was to be celebrated, which meant more dry days... what we didn't expect was that we were to be included in all the festivity and celebrations! The staff at Hare Rama (where we staying in Patmen), invited us to join in the three days of celebrations with them and their families. From Wiki for info: ... read more

I <3 Hampi!

Today has been pretty much the best day so far. Like, really amazing. But I think its been a while since I've updated on here, so I'll rewind a wee bit! We spent a week in Varkala. There's not an awful lot to do there, except everything which was needed right at that very moment. Sun, sea, facials, beer, cocktails, ace new friends, and a jolly good laugh. Picture this.... sun setting, feeling snoozy on the beach, some guy playing a wee wooden flute next to us... then a pack of dogs come over, and one pisses right next to us. Nice. The beaches are crazy. Dog and cows, and even goats walking about! After seven nights of lazing about, we packed up our belongings in the hut (the same hut which some cheeky little chancer ... read more

I feel like load has happened already since last week! There's been dramas, sun, loads of drinking and backwaters to name a few things..... On Sunday we got up MEGA early, and took a trip in a rickshaw to meet some dude who took us to the Backwaters (organised by Uncle - the owner of the House, he's not really called Uncle, he's just the nicest and kindest man ever, that he's totally worthy of that name!). It was a 7 hour hour round trip, we saw loads.. toddy tapping, a woman making rope, had some chai with some islanders at their house, went on a canoe.. I've attached a few pics below :) Monday morning it was time for us to move on and say goodbye to Uncle. We took a 4 hour train to ... read more

India so far... Mumbai and Kerala

Yep, India is pretty crazy. We’ve been here five days now, and there’s quite a bit to tell, so I’ll start from the beginning… The flight was brilliant – we had our own little TV screen with On Demand remote controls so we could pick our own individual films or TV shows. We both decided to watch One Day, which left us both bawling our eyes out :/ for at least 20 minutes. It took two hours to get through customs and bag pick up, which was fine for us, but maybe not for the wee guy who was picking us up – bless him, he was sat in the scorching sun holding a sign with my name on for two hours – I’ve never been so pleased to see a total stranger in my life. ... read more

Three leaving parties: Done. Packing: Done. Panic: Done. Emotional five minutes with the cat: Done. Crying: Massively done. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect weekend in Manchester. The food at Bakerie was mega nice, lots of great people, lovely surprises from Tomek, and Arthouse was brilliant, as it always is. Joanne’s been puking all night, so fingers crossed she’s better tomorrow, otherwise the journey will be fun :/ It’s 11pm now… we leave Corby tomorrow at 1pm, only one thing left to say: EEK. Next update: INDIA! Pics attached! Thank you so much Vikki-Kate for capturing everything on Friday night ... read more
