What a day!! Left Bangkok at 5.00 am and flew into Phuket. Scott was keen to see Ko Jum, which was quite a distance from Phuket, but what the heck!! Arrived Phuket, dropped off what seemed like 40 kg of luggage & shopping at the Phuket airport. We organised a rip off taxi to take us from the Airport to the nearest bus station for a bus to Krabi. Wrecked and tired, but 580 bt for 4 of us was a real steal for the local bus to Krabi and it was comfort & air con "all the way", for the next 2.5 or 3 hours. We arranged for another taxi to pick up our Lonely Planet book from Me Mee Guesthouse (yep, left it behind wrapped up in the sheets or similar!!) and then ... read more

Can't believe that I am still blogging!! Early morn flight from Chiang Mai and arrived BKK. The 400 BT taxi ride from the airport to the Reno Hotel once again took its time through the bumper to bumper Bangkok traffic. I can't for the life of me see how the taxi drivers make any money!! By the time we had checked in at the Reno Hotel, we were so starving we could have just about eaten each other!! The Reno was in a great location for central schoping at the MBK Centre, but don't be fooled by the foyer, the glamour of the hotel stops there!! Anyway, we headed straight to the MBK centre for a feed - soooo much to choose from - it made our situation worse!! Anyway, after much deliberation we filled ... read more

Hi all, I was so far behind with the blogging it's no joke anymore, but alas the fingers have been working overtime and its all but caught up!! Now I'm not sure what today will bring... Would have liked to go up further in the mountains, but then could easy settle for a body scrub & massage. Would also like to do a cooking course, but not sure if we'll have the time. Best get off this blog and sort something out!! Tomorrow morn we leave for the streets of Bangkok. Well our last day at Chiang Mai saw us hire a driver for a few hours and we went to the Ma Sa Valley area. Visited a monkey show (we felt rather special as this show was put on "just for us" (maybe that ... read more

The next day we decided to hire a car for the day and tackle the CM traffic - Need to have your wits about you, and definitely required the co-pilot (for what I was worth)! Anyway we visited a woodcarving village and then stopped off for some yummy local tucker near the Chiang Mai Zoo. We then spent a few hours driving around the zoo in the stinking hot heat - so lucky the car came with aircon, but we still had to get out the car every now & again to see the creatures on our way around! They also had a shuttle bus around the zoo for those without a car. We wouldn't have contemplated just using our legs, the heat and the hills weren't a good combination! Later, we checked out our ... read more

CHIANG MAI - ELEPHANT NATURE PARK Asia » Thailand » Chiang Mai By The Travellin WilliesMarch 30th 2007Scott, Paula, Chels & Brent Hi All, Our second day here we went to the Elephant Nature Park - which really was, a life changing experience for us all. No riding elephants and the touristy thing, we got so up close & personal with these giants, that they were eating out of our hands, we bathed with them in the river, scrubbed them, learnt all about the Thai Elephant and what tourism has done to them and watched a great documentary on what this Thai Lady named "Lek" has been trying to change. There were about 31 elephants here ... read more

Hi All, Well there's been no time for a blog lately, so sorry 'bout that, but life has been full of adventure!! The plane journey to BKK was fine, we then decided we would get a bit of local spirit happening and caught the shuttle bus from the airport to the local bus station. From there following a little usual confusion, we caught the subway train to the main train station (and we thought we were never going to get there!) We were supposed to be at the train station before 4.00 to pick up advanced tickets, for our pre booked sleeper. But the snail trail traffic through BKK saw us not having a clue where we were, or where we were supposed to get off, or how long it was going to take, but ... read more

Today, we have a big day ahead of us. In 15 min (10.00 am) leave for Krabi Airport and catch a flight to Bangkok, high tail it to the train station at Bangkok to pick up our pre-ordered train tickets to Chiang Mai. If there's time, we'll spend a couple of hours in China Town or try & get a shower somewhere before the 14 hour train journey up north. Will tune in later... if you have any ideas on how we can overcome the stinking toilets on the train then please let us know.... we're open to all ideas!! Love from the Travellin' Willies xxx ... read more

Well, we said goodbye to Koh Lanta which was a real Thai experience, filthy dirty, red dirt, dust & puddles everwhere and relatively undeveloped, but some lovely beaches & sights to explore. We grabbed a ride into town and by the end of our stay had the tuk tuk drivers downpat with their prices! Caught a ferry over to Ao-Nang via Railay, hundreds of backpackers & loads of Swede's all jumping on boats doing a similar sort of thing, it's just way too easy. The toilets on the ferries leave a lot to be desired! The stench is overwhelming. Brent had the pleasure of using one before me this time. I asked how it was and he said "not real good mum, piss all over the floor and it stunk" , a pretty good description, ... read more

Well, I'd had enough of Pearl Beach Resort!!! The beds just weren't like home, and the mozzies had been eating every bit of flesh on the body! Add to that a grumpy manager that had a bad chip on his shoulder & quite openly discussed his loathe for the tourists, so we felt it time to leave! We checked out some places before giving the car back and are now in the "upmarket" Lanta Villa's. A great spot up the northern end of town. Right on the beach at Khlong Dao and also has swimming pool, fridge, tv air con etc.. It's a bungalow hut but very roomy and at 1600 bt is a real bargain which includes the buffet breakfast!! The kids are begging us to stay, so it looks like Koh Jum gets ... read more

Yes, - it was that day 15 years ago that we said "I do" and "death do us part", "for richer for poorer", (I hated that "poorer" bit!!) etc etc... What a journey it has been, and really, one big adventure, one loving husband and two beautiful children ... we are blessed......... Today, we headed down the beach for a few hours to get plenty of R&R. In the arvo headed into the town and had a beaut feed of Tom Yum Goong (Seafood) to share and a lovely stir fried vegies. It was a lovely meal overlooking the Port of Koh Lanta. We've checked this little happening town out, and did a bit of window shopping, but haven't really seen too much that I'm interested in practising the bargaining skills for yet. We grabbed ... read more
