Pre note: Non metal fans might find this blog boring and irrelavant. Bad language will be used. FRIDAY: After a 9 hour flight and 3 hours in transit from Heathrow, Leanne arrives from Durban, South Africa. Matt's friend had come over just for the Download Festival and within an hour of her arriving, we are in the car heading north. I had bought tickets shortly after I arrived in England and with a line-up like this one, there was no way I was going to miss it. Running for 16 years and held at the legendary Donington Park, the Download Festival [View Full Entry]

The only reason I know I am in Germany is by my carrier sending a message to my phone saying welcome to Germany, other than that there is no check point, no boarder control, no passport or customs. Not even a damn sign saying "Willkommen nach Deutschland " The train rolls forward at an excruciatingly slow pace. We have made our way into the Bavarian Alps and they tower over me with stunning granduer. After an hour travel from Salzburg, we arrive at Berchtesgaden. I had one mission here in Berchtesgaden, to see Hitler's Eagle Nest. When I approach the information [View Full Entry]

When one thinks of Austria, they automatically think mountains. Flying into Salzburg, all I see is flat terrain which is a little disappointing. As we get closer, we are guided into Salzburg airport by tall, snow-capped mountains. After getting off the plane, I got myself to the Hauptbahnhof (Main train station) and made for Vienna. As the train winded it's way along the tracks towards Vienna, I got an amazing view of the surrounding mountains. I met and was talking to a couple from New Zealand so the trip didn't seem 3 1/2 hours long. I started, as I usually do [View Full Entry]

Well what to make of Prague? Well it could well be my favourite city ever! My favourite city list is topped by Vancouver, Canada but Prague is nipping at it's heals. An amazing mixture of fabulous architecture, vibrant nightlife, a somewhat unusual culture and relative cheapness makes it a worthy contender. While it probably won't take home the cup, it's safe to say it comes in at a close second. After getting off the plane and having my newly purchased transit tickets thrown at me by a staff member who seemed highly underwhelmed about seeing another damn backpacker, I made my [View Full Entry]

Just a quick blog to summarise my little trip to London for a couple of days. I get off the tube and surface at a little area over looking Trinity Square Gardens. After a short walk past the Tower of London, I then gaze upon one of the symbols of London, Tower Bridge. Thus begun my world wind tour of London and it's attractions. A day and a half plus most of a Monopoly board saw me take in such sights as Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, Downing Street, The London Eye, Houses of Parliament complete with St. Stevens Tower [View Full Entry]

Sorry about not having put up a blog for a while, a lot has happened with me getting settled and starting work. I have found a new home. It's called Olney and I had never heard of it untill a day before I arrived. It's a nice little town that is stereotypically english. Quaint, quiet, beautiful, cold, grey and raining. In fact it was raining as I typed this. The whole town has more of a little village feel to it as everyone knows everyone and the township is hidden away in the midst of large rural areas. I have heard [View Full Entry]

I have come to believe that you can tell a lot about a city by its airport. This is true about Cairo Airport, where waiting for 12 hours in a dirty, stinky, uncomfortable and unorganised terminal, is pretty much is similar to the city itself. This theory is also true about Dubai International. Modern, efficient, clean and roomy. There is also a terminal 3 under construction which will dwarf the original. It's sleak, modern, unusual architecture pretty much sums up the city. Nowhere else in the Middle East, or perhaps in the world, is there a city quite like Dubai. Once [View Full Entry]

The train rolls into the station. May face cringes a little as I lay eyes on the old, worn out, dirty exterior. After a short inspection, the interior was actually very nice. Compared to the Reunification Express in Vietnam, it was excellent. I am not used to travelling first class, but here I was, rearranging my luggage in my first class sleeper cabin. Sleeper trains has become my favourite way to travel, sitting in the bar, sipping on a Johnnie Walker and Coke and watching the darkened scenery fly by. Theres nothing better paying one price for a bed and transport. [View Full Entry]

I have to start on an official note. It appears that some people were not happy with my last blog. I recieved a few emails and messages from citizens and regular visitors that obviously didn't undertand what my last blog was all about. Dispite the title of my last blog being Worst first night... EVER!!! I was no way implying that I disliked the city with a pasing glance (I never do that), the religion or the people. I was discribing my experiences. When I said at that point I wasn't liking it, I refering to my situation of being in [View Full Entry]

The plane screeches to a halt. I have never been so excited to land in a new country. Egypt for me has always been a land of such illustrious history and magnificent aura that it almost seemed unreal and yet with a turn of my head, I see it out the window. Immigration varys across the globe but Egypt has to be the worst I have ever been through. I know I had to apply for a visa and I knew I could get one at the airport. How I go about doing that is not something I knew. Usually visa [View Full Entry]
