Wed 18 Went kitesurfing today it was amazing- I loved it! Might book a week of it up in Kenya. Didn't touch the board though. Played with the kite on the land and then went into the cold water and got dragged along on my belly by the kite. It was scary at times though as the wind was very strong and the waves were very big but hopefully that means next time I do it in calmer conditions it will be easier! Back in town I checked in to Daddy Long Legs hotel which is an art hotel and [View Full Entry]

Sun15th Last day on the truck and only a short jouney which we had a sing song the whole way. When we arrived we went on a township tour and saw all the different types of houses that the black people lived in since being thrown out of the city in the appartide- they range from shanty shacks to what look like english bungalows. The flats that we built for 16 workers to live in when they came from the country to work now house 16 families! In the evening the group went out for a last meal and onto a [View Full Entry]

Fri 13th We stopped at some hotsprings on the drive down- they had fed the hot water into a swimming pool- but not enough as it was still cold!! Then back in the truck to drive to Orange river which is the boarder with SA. Pamella and I went canoeing which was really pretty. Sat14th Day just in the truck and crossed the border to SA. Didn't have to cook dinner and I upgraded to a dorm rather than sleeping in the tent. We played a giant game of pictionary which was very funny. [View Full Entry]

Beautiful canoeing veiw

Thur 12 We drove to fish river canyon - the second biggest canyon in the world. We wandered along the edge and then back for sunset- but it wasn't that spectacular. The canyon itself was huge but I seem to remember the Grandcanyon being a nice colour. (I've been so spoilt that I'm not wowed by these sights anymore!) [View Full Entry]

Tue 10th We made the truck leave an hour later than planed so Steve, Nick and I could go Quad biking again. The weather was clearer, so the views more spectacular and as there was only 3 of us we went over more jumps (well up cliff faces that then flatten out so as you go over at speed the wheels come off the ground). Unfortunately with only 30 mins left travelling at 70km/h I slid down a sideways slope and headed over a grassy mound flew into the air, just as I landed hit another knoll and again all [View Full Entry]

Sat 7th Drove to a cape fur seal colony, thousands of sea lions for as far as you can see, very noisy and even more smelly. Lots of pups around as well so very cute- once over the smell. They have so many there, they have to cull some of them and you can buy fur wallets etc from a little shop- def not my thing. Then onto Swakopmund- Heini’s home town- and back into a hostel. We booked our activities and then wandered around town which has a German feel to it, which was dead as it is Easter [View Full Entry]

truck in the distance

Tue3rd Got the truck over the boarder to Namibia, we arrived in Windhock, the capital, at 2pm and had till 5 to explore. It was very modern fairly big town. We went to a tea place for lunch and then onto the net.. We then drove to a hostel- yes no tents!! And out to dinner at Jo’s beer house where the carnivores had such delights at zebra, croc, springbock and ostrich and the veggies were left with rather grotty pasta. Wed 4th Full day on the truck but I put one of the mattresses on the floor and slept [View Full Entry]

Sat31st Truck journey to the Okavango Delta- I slept all the way. When we arrived a few of us went up in a plane to see it and a few animals from above. It wasn’t as good as the micro light and I threw up on the way down!! Sun 1st Up early and onto an open truck and into the delta, then onto a makuro a hollowed out trunk canoe that 2 of us went into with one guy to “punt” us along. We arrived in a clearing and set up camp. We played a few games and then [View Full Entry]
