Saturday and Sunday We had great fun last night at Shenanigan's. On Saturday we spent the day with Larry and Melia. After a few morning drinks, we drove out to West End to Old Bahama Bay Resort. I had heard that there was a lot of development out there after I left the island. Al Jones was working with the Ginn Corporation and leading the development here. Unfortunately, Al was off the island, so we were not able to see him. But we toured the area and then went to the marina for lunch. We had all heard that John Travolta's 16-year-old son, Jett, died on January 2nd, at the family's vacation home in Old Bahama Bay. The family, including Jett Travolta's mother, Kelly Preston, and his 8-year-old sister, Ella, had been celebrating the New Year ... read more

It is time for some overseas travel. It is in our blood and nature. We have to go. This time we flew to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island on February 6th. We wanted to see our many friends there. The original plan was to stay in the apartment of our friend, Herb Hucks. He was off the island and offered his apartment for us to use. The apartment is in a building on the waterway West of downtown Freeport, just across the road from the beach. Herb and Ken Farino have been developing the property there for years. We knew that it would be a nice, quiet place to relax. However, once we arrived we were a little stunned. We had not seen this building since we left Freeport in early 2004. In the years since then ... read more

We started the year with a few parties. The first, on January 5th, was in the Manhattan to celebrate the birthday of our friend, Rich DeLuca. Soon after, we joined Jackie's mother, Martha New, for her birthday on January 16th. A big part of our lives are our grandchildren. Their ages are now 4 to 13. All have school and sport activities. So, over the year you will see many of these events as well as numerous birthday events. In January, the sport is indoor basketball. In the photos you’ll see Emmy in competition. Dianne sent out a photo with a house in the background described as Mother’s birthplace. It did not match up with my memory. Mother went with Jackie and me once and showed us the house. Dianne’s photo just did not seem correct. ... read more

Thursday January 1, 2009. Jackie and I started the New Year on the Sky Lounge of The Manhattan, our condominium. What will the year hold for us? Hopefully, more excitement and adventure. I have decided to write the Blog for the entire year, not just one special trip. This way after we print the blog book, we can capture so many memories. I hope to have a printed copy of the year's blog by Christmas so I will have to complete the year early. Therefore, I will not include Thanksgiving or Christmas. Stay tuned for an exciting trip. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 The Reunion Today was the ultimate climax to our adventure. We had great fun in Europe and driving there was an adventure. But spending the day in Greenville at the BMW Performance School was a top thrill for me and Jackie. As I reported yesterday, we drove from Atlanta to Greenville, SC and spent the night at the Marriott. The drive was about two hours, about 100 miles. After our endurance driving in Europe, this was nothing. We drove up in my Toyota Highlander, with Ursula at the GPS. After a nice breakfast, we followed a van from the hotel to the Performance Center. It is a short drive from the hotel. Upon arrival at the visitor center we were ushered into a classroom for some briefing and signing waiver documents. Yes, ... read more

Monday, August 18, 2008 Hello family and friends, Did you think that our journey was over? No way. There is still one important last step. It is time to re-acquaint ourselves with our new, or almost new, BMW. We had bonded with our new car in Europe and now really miss seeing and driving her. We have been back to the USA since Saturday, June 28th. Tomorrow we will spend the day at the BMW factory in Greenville, SC. There is a complete day planned for us. We start at 8:00am and finish at 3:00pm. It should be great fun touring the factory and then learning about the performance characteristics of our vehicle and then testing it on the BMW performance track. So, let’s get started. We have been excited about this final trip for weeks. ... read more

Thursday/Saturday, June 26-28 We are back to the USA! I am writing this final blog on Sunday, June 29, 2008. I will do a brief wrap up of our return trip. We are happy to be home but it seems strange to have no place to go. We had the time of our lives. We have lots of people to thank for their support. I also want to thank all of our blog readers. I saw noticed on the travel blog site that I have had over 1600 hits on the blogs. Thank you for taking the time to follow our journey. Thursday This was our planned return date. Dianne and John were returning too. We all were traveling on a stand-by basis. However, we did not have the same priority. John works for Delta and ... read more

Monday, June 23 Dublin-John/Dianne arrive I am writing this blog late. It is now Thursday, 26 June. This is the longest period that I have gotten behind. But, since Dianne and John arrived in Ireland, we’ve not had a moment to write and upload the blog. Also, if you are keeping up with the blogs, you would know that we should be flying back at this time. Only, we are not on our way. In fact, after a long day at the airport, we have just checked in to a nearby hotel. You will hear a lot about this day and all the others if you just read ahead. June 23 (Dublin) We planned to meet Dianne and John on Monday morning. They were flying directly in from Atlanta. Their flight was to arrive at 9:30am. ... read more

Sunday, June 22 Dublin How long can it rain? We got up to another wet day. We had an added feature this morning with high winds. It was gusting up to 50 mph. We had plans to check out of The Regency Hotel and move downtown to the B/W Royal Dublin Hotel early. But with this weather we decided to take our time. We did not want to do a ‘Dublin walking tour’ on a day like this. We finally left the hotel about 11:00am. We drove into town and found the parking garage for the hotel. Jackie tried but failed to find a way to get the door open so we drove around to the main street in Dublin, O’Connell Street. The only problem now was this is a busses and taxis only street. Saturday, June 21 Dublin & D’Arcy As I mentioned earlier, we started the day with rain. What’s the best thing to do when it rains? Wash clothes. That’s our new routine. So, we drove back to the launderette that Jackie had spotted as we approached the hotel Friday afternoon. We’ve gotten pretty good at this over the last several weeks. It is a great feeling to start another week with clean clothes. When we returned to the hotel it was still raining. So, we rested a bit, uploaded the last blog and waited for a break in the storm. Finally, it slowed enough by 2:00pm to drive into Dublin for a look around. Since we had rooms booked in the downtown area for Sunday-Monday, we set that for our first destination. We walked around and found ... read more
