Later in July we attended another great Dorsey family reunion. This year it was held at the Asheville Crowne Plaza in Asheville, North Carolina. It was well attended by three generations from the Lamar and Nell Dorsey family. Christi and her kids were able to join the crowd this year. It was great to see all the cousins. On the first day the men played golf at the Reems Creek Golf Course. The competition was fierce as in prior years. This year Mike Leveille won first place and was awarded the famous "Dorsey Cup." During the reunion we had fun visiting with family around the pool and in the official meeting place, Dianne’s room. We met for dinner and awards ceremony at Frankie Bones Restaurant. It was the perfect place to have this dinner. Food was ... read more

July 2009 was another fun month for the Dorsey's. Of course, we started the month with a Fourth of July Parade in Dunwoody. For the last few years we have joined Melissa and family near the same spot on Mount Vernon to watch the parade. It seems to get better each year. It gives you a good small town feeling. The kids love it too. The next week we had a small party for Ted’s birthday. Melissa had arranged to have a blow up jumping thing for the kids to play in. I noticed at one point that Jackie was in there jumping with the kids. I ignored her later when she said her back hurt. She doesn’t listen to me. Ted had fun with the family joining in. He got lots of presents and a ... read more

In Sandy Springs, each year there is a concert series at the Heritage Park outdoor amphitheater. We get together with Larry and Gail to enjoy most Sunday evenings. At times the kids will come along. The pool at our condo was a favorite place for us and the kids. It helps to have someplace for them to go when they come over to visit. On June 29th, Christi and I drove up to Gainesville to look for a new home for her and the kids. After several hours, we found a nice house with four bedrooms and a full basement. It also had a large, fenced in back yard. While checking out the house, I noticed a deer inside the fence in the back. You don’t see that every day. Christi loved the house and I ... read more

After returning from Disney World, we had a very active month of May. The month started with the end-of-the-year school activities. We visited Ted’s school and later we attended Emmy’s fifth grade promotion at Lakeview. We also attended Hannah’s dance recital at Dunwoody Baptist Church. I also got a chance to attend an interesting event in Fayetteville, Georgia for the unveiling of a plaque recognizing the historical significance of the Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House. My great-great grandfather was born and raised in this house. The famous ‘Doc Holliday’ also had a connection with this house with some of his relatives living there for a while. Doc was said to have visited there many times. We did one road trip this month with a drive to Birmingham for a visit with John and Carla Maguire. Jack and Marion McKee ... read more

The fun continues at Disneyworld. On Friday we visited the Hollywood Studios early then we finished the day at the Wilderness Park for dinner and the Hoop-De-Doo Review. On Saturday we were back for a full day at Epcot. We stayed at the Polynesian Village Hotel in the park. Transportation around the park was easy. On Sunday, our departure day, we were booked for breakfast with Mickey. Several of the characters were there including Mickey. It was a great trip with the Hummel family. ... read more

Disney is magic. And you just can't say no. This Spring Melissa asked if we wanted to join her family on a visit to Disney World. We love spending time with the kids and there's no better place than at Disney. We considered driving down to save money but in the end concluded that we would have more time in the park if we flew. As it turns out the flying into Disney is made easy on that end. A bus was ready to take us right to our hotel. It was not long after we arrived that we were on the tram headed for Epcot. For this trip, my photos will explain the fun we had on this trip. Check them out. ... read more

Our big event is Sunday in New Orleans. We'll have to leave Baton Rouge after an early breakfast to get to the Hotel in New Orleans by about 9:30. We'll drop our bags off at the Hotel and walk down to the Hilton Riverside for the Bacchus Brunch. I'm told this is a great affair with live music and lots of great food and fun. At some point we'll have to break away to go find our bleacher seats on St. Charles street so that we can watch as much of the Okemos, Thoth and MidCity parades as we can fit in. These parades will pass our seats between about 12:30 and 1:30. We'll have to decide between staying longer at the brunch and seeing all of the parades. The brunch doesn't end until 2:00PM. ... read more

Thursday - Friday - Saturday On Thursday we drove to Baton Rouge from Atlanta stopping overnight near Mobile, Alabama. We arrived in Baton Rouge at mid-day on Friday. We came to see our good friends Jack and Debbie Harris. We first met them when we lived in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. They often invited us to join them for Mardi Gras and finally we are. It did not take long for the excitement to begin. On Friday evening we were able to ride on a float of the Krewe of Southdowns. It's a small parade with modest floats in the subdivison of Southdowns in an older part of Baton Rouge that has become popular with young professionals and others who want to live in a place that has an old time subdivision feel. It's a family ... read more
