Arc de Triomphe
About 15 years ago Debbie and I had a trip to Paris planned. Right before the trip I got bitten by a spider and had to spend 4 days in the hospital. They sent me home with an antibiotic pump for another week. We packed our bags and the nurse came to the house and removed the pump and we got in the car and headed to the airport. We were not going to miss our trip. When we got to our hotel in Paris it was getting dusk and there was a light rain coming down. We borrowed an umbrella from the hotel and took about a half mile walk down to the Arc de Triomphe. It was deserted with a single guard standing watch. We asked him if we could walk up to the top and he let us. We stood there on the top of the Arc all by ourselves in the sprinkling rain looking out over Paris as the lights came on. It was one of the most beautiful experiences we have ever had. Jack

Paris
Jack, sounds like your determination paid off. The spider bite sounded bad. But I'm glad that it healed and you were able to make the trip. Now I wish we had waited to go up on the Arc. Maybe next time.

Paris!
You made a good choice on touring the grounds Versallies ~ a few years ago, I went with Pam and it took ALL day, in line to do the palace, etc. It was nice but I enjoyed the gardens as you did. You both have made great choices and enjoyed a super and leisurely tour, which is the best way to enjoy Europe. Can't wait to see and ride in your new car! love, dianne

Great Blog!!
I loved the blow by blow of your trip! I also love your new car and know that Jackie will enjoy talking with her about the trip to pick up up for years to come. I hope you have your coffee table book ready soon. Can't wait until I can enjoy seeing it all put together! Thanks so much for the sharing. Love, Dianne

Your day at Normany Beach!
Enjoyed seeing the photos and reading about your time there at the beach, Tommy. You did a great job explaining about this place and how many of Americans died there! It was weird seeing that Thomas E Dorsey died there... oh my! He must have been a relative, you know that! I also loved the movie "The Longest Day".. and I bet it helped to view right before you trip. loved your blog!

Thanks
Always great to get a personal take on visits to historic sites of such significants. We've been to France several times but have never seen the beaches. If we make it back I'll be sure to include them as part of our trip.

Beaches
If you go, make sure to watch the Longest Day movie first. It made it more enjoyable for Jackie. It wasn't on her bucket list like it was on mine. Now she's happy she went.

Dieppe
I know why you wanted to go to Dieppe......that's where the castle of William the conquerer's uncle is. I still think we have a connection to the French side of the Dorsey family...do you?
