After recovering from our walk to the waterfalls we returned to La Paz with the intention of cycling the most dangerous road in the world!! So called because on average 300 - 400 people per year used to die on it. NOT by cycling it but mainly due to road accidents - at its narrowest point it is 1.3 meters wide and these were big trucks they used to drive down it! Anyway before we got to that we went out for a really nice meal in a restaurant called Vienna. We were celebrating our 9th, yes 9th, anniversary together, so [View Full Entry]

Ready For Action!
First leg down
Where´s Wally?

Hello We are just recovering from our lengthy walk this morning to the waterfalls that took us 4 hours in the boiling heat. We decided to get up early to try and beat the midday sun as best we could so made it down for breakfast today. We ate lots and then decided to steal two rolls with ham and some cake for our picnic lunch, luckily I was wearing my wolly jumper with a large front pocket so the rolls fitted in just perfectly! The start of the walk was uphill and I didn´t think I would make it even [View Full Entry]

The Lucious Yungas .....and Steve!
On top of the world!
Coca Fields

Hi there! Today we made our journey to the tropical valleys known as the Yungas or ´Beasty Heaven´as Steve calls it! We were planning to get a bus with all the other locals but when we turned up a guy was touting the bus companies offering a lift for the same price in his 4 x 4. Steve decided it would be good to go with him, but I was not sure that he wouldn´t be a mad axe murderer - turns out he was just trying to make some money and he took us all the way to our hotel [View Full Entry]

Lazy Days
Urrghh!!

We finally made it... yes we are in La Paz!! And it´s soooo nice to be out of Lima! Touched down about 4 this morning and got a taxi down into La Paz - It was amazing. La Paz is 4,000m above sea level and the airport is at 4,500m so on the drive down the whole place twinkles with street lights. We would have asked the taxi driver to stop for a piccie, but thought it best to leave him conentrating on the task in hand! After a few hours sleep we were up and awake to the sound of [View Full Entry]

Hello people, We have landed and the journey has begun.... Slight hitch though... those loooosers at Iberia decided to leave my (Steve) bag in Madrid - cheers. Luckily my partner in crime decided to make us split our clothes 50-50 incase of such an occurrance! The taxi driver tried his best to put the taxi under a bus on the way here but luckily for us he failed Anyway, the hotel where we are staying in is really nice and the Peruvians seem to be very friendly. We are just off now for some exploring so will be back with tales [View Full Entry]
