Arriving in Baños for what would be our 1st nights camping out we heard they may be a thunder storm heading in - immediately we dumped the tent and upgraded to a double room with private bathroom. An excellent choice i feel, as my stomach was rumbling again and something in the air (quite literally much to paulines dissapointment) told me i would be spending some quality time with my old friend Armatige Shanks again! Not perturbed i booked myself up for a half day canyoning and a full day white water rafting. Canyoning was brilliant. Basically you get kitted out [View Full Entry]

Puenta Sal is a small fishing village on the beach where we stopped for a couple of days en route to Lima. We pitched tents on the beach and had a tastey bbq for dinner. It had been another long day in the truck and i was ready for a beer - shock! Pauline ventured out for some horse riding at sunset down the beach on the first night which sounded very nice, although her ass was a bit sore the next day! After Puenta Sal we headed down to Huanchaca. Here we saw some fantastic Adobes (not software manufacturers as [View Full Entry]

Have to do a bit of a summary as we have been slacking on the blog so we have just filled out the basics here! On day 5 we did some more amazing snorkelling. In the space of an hour i managed to swim with 2 penguins, a sea turtle a whole host of crazy looking fish and a shark! Yes, i did feel slightly nervous to say the least but was definitely a brilliant experience. The next day was a bit of a geology lesson and we saw some fantastic lava fields and volcanoes. Also we saw many different types [View Full Entry]

Bit of a weird day today, as the group of peple we have been travelling with left and we met a new group of buddies! In the morning before our old buddies departed we went to 2 lagoons on the our dingy. I wasn´t thinking much of it before we arrived but when we did it was fantastic. We saw pelicans nesting in the mangroves that surrounded the lagoons anmd a whole host of crazy marine life in the lagoons. They are the favourite feeding place of turtles, sharks and rays. The first thing we saw, were 2 baby manta rays [View Full Entry]

Today we visited Espanola Island in the South of the Galapagos. On our way there in the safety of our dinghy our guide had a little accident. We were coasting along into Gardner bay where we were going to go snorkelling when I happened to notice the water was getting quite shallow, before I had a chance to say anything the front of the boat grinded onto a rock and our guide flew backwards into the sea with all her clothes on. Luckily she didn´t bang her head as the life jacket brought her back up but she was soaked through [View Full Entry]

I managed to sleep soundly for about 3 hours, then we heard the anchor being raised, the engine of our 1st class yacht purrrrrring and soon enough the rough seas throwing us all over our cabin... It was going to be a long night! We were sailing from Santa Cruz Island to San Cristobal and would be sailing for 6 hours overnight - great. The alarm went off at 6.15 as breakfast was served at 7 (I don´t think i´ve ever had breakfast at 7!!), and we were greeted by a veritable banquet... fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, bacon, eggs, potatoe things, [View Full Entry]

We arrived at the airport to be greeted by a Galaxy travel agent who helped us check in our bags and get our tickets, and thank god she did as South American domestic airports are not as easy to navigate as English ones, without her we would have been lost! When we finally got on the plane the confusion continued as it came over the intercom we were flying to Guyaquil in Ecuador and no mention of Baltra in the Galapagos, our destination?! In a bit of a panic I hastily asked the air stewardess if we were on the right [View Full Entry]

Leaving La Paz behind us we set off for Ecuador! After a day of no food before today I was allowed to eat - Halleluhlah! Arriving at the airport at 7am the checkin was delayed for 45 mins while the flight crew finished their breakfasts - B%&$#"s - don´t they know i haven´t eaten for 36 hours!! After checking in, it was to the cafe for a well earned breakkie of cold toast, cold croissant and watered down fruit juice - but it tasted sooooo good! The flight actually left early and so discussing how blessed we were we departed for [View Full Entry]

Woke up early doors this morning and collected our packed lunch from the restaurant at the hotel. It was a tastey chicken sandwich, chocolate, banana, apple, water and yoghurt drink - sounds fantastic as long as it stays inside! Yes my belly is still dodgy!! We walked down to town and got some breakfast - or rather I watched Pauline have breakfast as I was on a no food policy to try and shift this 'stomach bug', and then got down to our boat. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining and blue skies so we, foolishly, went on [View Full Entry]

An Island with a view

We arrived in Copacabana after a much less traumatic 3 hour bus ride from La Paz. It involved a dodgy crossing of the lake where our coach had to float over on a wooden raft and we met it on the otherside after a hairy boat ride. On arriving Steve pointed in the right direction to walk to our hotel but I was not so sure. So I took us on a much more scenic route that may have turned out to be a little longer than needed. The hotel was actually at the top of a hill which was not [View Full Entry]
