I am going to pack around Central America in the middle of January for a length of around three months. I fly into San Jose, Costa Rica and from there I will just see where the wind takes me. I had originally planned this trip with a friend, but he has backed out and I will traveling alone now. I have never traveled outside of the United States before. I am a bit nervous and very excited about it. I hope to meet lots of people and make friends along the way. I'm 25 and I was born and raised in Oregon, USA.

Just a quick update... Only a couple more weeks left before I return home and I have to start moving a bit faster. I stayed in San Pedro for two weeks learning some español and just taking it easy. Rented at small cottage with Martin and a couple from England for about $1.35 a day. Martin and I left yesterday spending a few hours on the chicken busses getting to Antigua, just a little distance from Guatemala City. Antigua is great with beautiful old buildings and streets. A little more expensive than the lake, but seems to be worth it. Today there was a parade of some sort of course being of a religious setting. There seems to be a lot of these around here. If there was more time I would stay for another day, ... read more

Here are some pictures I grabed from some of the other travelers I have been with in the days after the camera. Enjoy. San pedro is amazing still and so is school. The classes are moving really fast. I am now studying for six hours a day. Last Thursday for Dom´s 35th birthday we all did staches and went to town on the hair gel. Great times. Friday... went out to the bars and afterwards experienced something I hope to never see again and I will make this short with few details. Late that night we went out to the bars and had ourselves a good time, until coming across a man who had been shot in the head and twice in the body. The tourists were the first to get there while the police arrived ... read more

I am in San Pedro in Lago de Atitlan, Guatemala. I spent about a week and a half in Granada, Nicaragua doing a homestay/ spanish course. It was great and I got at ton of really great pictures. The city is really amazing with big colonial buildings. We were there for the end of a poetry festival and got to see a parade, concerts, and tons of daily activities. My host family was really great, but the spanish was really difficult because no one spoke a lick of english. Very hard to explain things when something isn´t understood. Miriam left that same week for Costa Rica before the return flight to Germany. Martin and I gained another traveller, Femke, who was staying with the same family as us. In less than twenty four hours she had ... read more

So the computers here in the ¨big city¨of Moyogalpa are actually sorta decent. Slow, but everything is in working order. We left San Carlos for a ten hour boat ride to Isla de Ometepe. We splurged for first class (an extra fifty cents per hour) and got to see some slasher movies and bad 80's videos for the ride. We arrived in Altagracia at 12:30am Tuesday night/Wednesday morning and walked a few kilometers to a three dollar a night hotel which is really more of a hostel. Our first real destination the next morning was a placed called Finca Magdalina just outside the town of Belgue. A very sweet place with ultra cheap lodging. Climbed volcano Maderas one of the days there, but the weather wasn´t the best for the hike. Tons of slippery mud and ... read more

Ok, so the backspace button is a bit effed up here, but the usb plugs work. Too bad uploading pictures seems to be a bit much for this computer. Pictures later again. The Germans and I left Bocas for San Jose to hang out with some local rock star for a few days. We met him in Pueto Viejo and he invited us over to show us around. Went to some local bars, and eateries, then to the big festival thing that lasts for 10 days. We made it for the last day with some concert. It was actually one of the cheapest days ive had in Costa Rica because the entry fee is nothing and the sponser for the event is Imperial, the beer of Costa Rica, which was fairly priced. The show was... alright, ... read more

So I have a ton of pictures to post, but both computers I have been on either didn´t have usb plugs or they just don´t work and I am not going to try to switch again. So the picuters will just have to come later. The plan was originally to stay in Puerto Viejo for a night and continue to Bocas in the morning. On the ride from San Jose we met up with some Aussie blokes who were going to the same place and ended up staying for four nights. Crazy party the first night, good drinking the next two and Australia Day yesterday. We stayed at Rocking J´s which is a wicked hostel with tons of people from all over the world. Met a guy from Kalidascope Pizza in Medford the first day. The ... read more

After getting my bag late Monday morning I decided to go to Manuel Antonio the next morning. While waiting at the Coca Cola station I met some great Germans, Miriam and Martin, who were going to the same destination. The weather has been great, the food has been great, and the sights have been great. The first two days were spent at the beach and lounging around taking in the sights. Today we the Mangrove tour in hopes of seeing monkeys (which seem to be around most places), crocodiles and sloths. Our guide is a fun guy who gave the tour while taking sips from his whiskey and taking short naps on the longer stretches of water. We saw great things, but no crocs or sloths. We looked long and hard. This morning, while sitting around ... read more

So, first off, my backpack got left in Texas. Super start to the trip. I still don´t have it, but I have been told that it is going through customs and should be at my hostel in a few hours. My fingers are crossed. So lets just say that last night was a bit ...disapointing. I spent the morning sitting around the pool being in a generally bad mood and worried about if it was even going to come back. At the time it was completely MIA. This mornging I met my first friend, Lisa, who I have been walking around town with most of the afternoon. She is from Austrailia and leaves tomorrow morning. I will stay in San Jose for another night and then take off. I still haven´t figured out where I will ... read more
