Feb 16 Del Rio-Pecos River Bridge-Langtry- Sanderson Since I went to bed when it got dark woke up early around 0400 and got up around 0500 and just loaded up and started West. It was kind of a mistake as I had considered going back into Del Rio and going to the SuperWalmart/Mcdonalds and buy some butter and a Sausage egg Mcmuffin. Really don't like backtracking but should have as butter in Sanderson was $3.65 for a pound of soft Parkay which I don't usually get but it was the best they had. A pound of butter was over $7.00. In any case I headed West but it was dark and so I drove on to Langtry and everything was closed so I ended up backtracking to the Pecos River Bridge anyway to wait on daylight. ... read more

Made it in to Del Rio and found the Library so I could get on their internet. Their wireless was not working so no luck there. Got Map of Del Rio while I was there and found out where 1308 South Main Street was at. That is the location of the Whitehead Memorial Museum. It also is the burial location of Judge Roy Bean. You pretty much get on Main Street and keep going till you think you had missed it and go some more till you are sure you have missed it and then some more and finally there it is. It is actually quite an interesting museum of various intererst and cost $5.00. I also looked up the location of the San Felipe Springs in a park on the East side of Del Rio ... read more

Junction to Del Rio Feb 15 Drove on Hwy 377 out of Junction towards Del Rio. The first part of the trip was pretty good taking me past South Llano River State Park and several scenic views but then it desintigrated into a sparce rocky landscape. This appeared to be ranches but i was wondering how cows could survive in such a rocky landscape but finally found some sheep grazing. So that is what they are growing here. Went through Rocksprings and about the only thing I can say about it is that they have public bathrooms on the courthouse square in what appears to have been a jail at one time. So it is good for a pit stop at least.... read more

14 Feb Junction, Texas I departed Harmony around noon of Feb 14 heading to San Diego by a meandering path and set as my goal for the first days drive Junction, Texas. There is a very nice park there by the Llano River in the City Park in Junction that permits overnight camping for free. I made a good days drive out of it stopping at the Rest area west of Stonewall for a break on the way. I should have filled up with gas before arriving at Junction because when I arrived at Junction and filled up they charged me $3.49 a gallon............outrageous. And the bathrooms in between the Junction Country Store and Mcdonalds were filthy. A muddy and wet floor with toilet paper overflowing out of trash cans. This was one of those times ... read more

Feb 14 Leaving Harmony Left Harmony around noon today and headed up 36 North to Caldwell then West on Hwy 21 to Bastrop, then on 71 through Austin then on 290 Westward. Am heading to San Diego but taking a meandering path. On my last trip sojourn I ended it at Junction, Texas, and so that will be my startup point for this trip. When going through Bastrop if you take the Loop 150 through town there is a very nice park called Fishermans Park on a scenic bend of the Colorado River which would be a great place to take a lunch break. I always try and make a sandwitch etc before departing in the morning in order to save a few bucks and not be tempted to buy "fast" food. And picnic in such ... read more

Had intended to head out toward Goliad, Corpus Christi etc on last Wednesday but a cold front blew in Tuesday night and all the roads were iced over so decided to hold off. Made good use of the time doing homework on various projects. The Weather cleared up and got very nice Friday and so Friday and part of Saturday got my truck lubricated and the oil changed. Also a new oil filter, new air filter, and fuel line filter. And reorganized stuff in the back of the truck. So now the weather is very nice and expected to be nice all of next week. So I have decided to just blow off Corpus etc and just head straight for San Diego. I am ready to go now and will leave Monday morning. I had intended ... read more

February 07, 2011 Kind of wound up this morning. Have been staying with my sister in Bryan and feel like I am getting too comfortable here. Need to get moving again before I start thinking about staying for the winter. Of course I wouldn't impose on my sister for that long but move back to my RV in Harmony if I stayed. Or move my RV to a park in Bryan. But I need to get moving again so today I am going to load up and head over to Harmony. I will spend a couple of days there in final preperations and then head south by southwest to Goliad, Palacio, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, North Padre Island and Corpus Christi. Then West. My stupid truck has started leaking oil at the oil filter again so ... read more

Feb 5 Bryan After visiting my sister in San Antonio had intended to go to Corpus Christi for a week or so but one of those famous (or infamous) Texas northerns blew in and it got seriously cold. Since most of the things I wanted to do and see in Corpus involved being outside I decided to go hole up at my sisters house in Bryan and regroup and refit for my next excursion. So I am using the opportunity to look again at everything I am carrying in my truck and see what I can leave behind and what I need to make sure to take on my next trip. In Bryan we got one of the most dangerous kinds of storms. First we got a drizzling rain which froze up as a coat of ... read more

Jan 31 The Zoo - Monday my sister Laura and I went to the Zoo in San Antonio. It is one of the best Zoo's around. It cost $10.25. Laura had a San Antonio's visitors guide coupon book she got at the Train show we went to on Sunday. So that knocked off $2.00 apiece so it was $8.25 each. The weather was just right in the 70's and we had a very pleasant day. This is the time of year to go as it is cool and the animals are out and moving around as opposed to summer when they are usually out of sight in their shelters to escape the heat. Also a big plus is the kids are in school so you don't have to deal with them. I have my truck but ... read more

The South Llano River State Park is just outside Junction. The majority of the park is closed till April to allow for the Turkey "roost". All but about a mile of the river is closed off to allow the turkey's to roost undisturbed. The river is quite beautiful and It would be nice to come back here to swim. The camping areas are open to camping though. Just don't disturb the turkeys!!... read more
