Hey all! So we haven’t written for a while, partly because we have been busy sorting out somewhere to live partly because we have been having too much fun and partly because we have been lazy! Since we last wrote we swapped high rise luxury living for a backpackers hostel.. Bit of a culture shock there! We booked 2 beds in a dorm room for 7 nights, giving ourselves that long to find somewhere to live. The hostel was actually a nice place to stay, only 5 beds in our dorm and the hostel was always lively with organised trips and [View Full Entry]

Hey hey! So, we have finally arrived in Melbourne! After a boring 8 hour flight from Kuala Lumpur we touched down in Melbourne and were surprised at how painlessly we got through Immigration! We were also surprised at how bloody cold it was! We were picked up by Dans (second??) cousin Bill and his wife, Sue. They took us back to their apartment in Melbourne City centre. It is a truly amazing place on the 55th floor of the Eureka tower which is the tallest residential tower in the world (if you don't count the mast on top of the Q1 [View Full Entry]

Batu Caves
Batu Caves
The stairs leading up to the caves
We have been here a few days so decided just to do one blog to take us up today which is the 15th. 11/08/09 Our first proper day in Kuala Lumpur and we decided to visit a place just outside the city called Batu Caves, it’s a huge limestone cave that is used as a Hindu Shrine it has an absolutely giant gold statue outside and there are 270 steps up to the cave entrance. We arrived at the caves right in the hottest part of the day which made climbing the steps quite an effort! There are loads and loads [View Full Entry]

So after we last wrote we were gearing up for the full moon party, it was mad (as expected!) I think we got back to our hotel around 7 or 8am. After a day recovering it was time to start our journey to Malaysia. We checked out of our hotel at noon and got a taxi to the ferry port 3 or 4 hours on a ferry and then an hour on a coach we arrived in Surat Thani. We then changed to another coach and were dropped off at Surat Thani rail station about 6pm. We bought tickets but had [View Full Entry]

Hey all! We are writing this from an Aussie bar in Haad Rin, Koh Pha-ngan. Haad rin is the main party area of the island and is where the famous full moon parties are held. Our last blog left off with us about to leave Khao Lak and travel here, we left the resort at 7.30am and after getting loads of mini buses and a ferry arrived on Koh pha-ngan at 7.00pm a very long day. At one of the stops along the way we managed to get a thai lady to book us into a bungalow. So we got on [View Full Entry]

Hey all, since last writing we have travelled from Phuket up the coast a little way to Khao Lak a small beach town on the Andaman sea completely surrounded by jungle and mountains/hills. The journey was much the same as all our other ones involving several mini buses, one drops you in a lay-by where another is waiting. Once again all worked out perfectly and on time. We got a taxi from a town called Phagn-nga (not to be confused with koh Pha-nagn where we are headed next!) Most expensive taxi so far, about 20 quid (I should probably explain that [View Full Entry]

Hey all, since we last wrote we have travelled south to Phuket. Journey was long, involving a taxi to the pier on koh tao then a ferry to Koh Samui (neighbouring island) then a mini bus to a bus stop then boarded a coach which then drove onto a car ferry, 1.5 hours later we disembarked, somewhere (we are not actually sure where haha) then back on the coach to Surat Thani where we got off and got a minibus all the way down to Phuket (although it was an epic journey like all other trips we have made so far [View Full Entry]

Last few days Asia
We have been unable to get wifi anywhere on the island we are currently on so that's why we havn't blogged fopr a while. Basically it is now 20 July Siobhans birthday! Since we last blogged we spent a couple more days in Bangkok and saw some amazing temples including wat pho which houses the recining buddha 46 metres long and 15 metres high. We then travelled overnight from bangkok to chumphon on the most air conditioned coach ever, and got a ferry from there in the morning to Koh Tao which is quite a small island where everyone dives and [View Full Entry]

We woke at 3.45am and said our goodbyes, got a lift with (Dan’s) Dad to Heathrow got there early and checked in. Bit of an issue straight away in that our seats were not next to each other! Luckily a nice guy agreed to swap seats with us so we could sit together. First flight was 9.5 hours long but watching films helped it pass by fairly quickly. The plane was hit by the worst turbulence just before landing in Mumbai, felt like our heads were going to hit the ceiling a couple of times. We got there safe and sound [View Full Entry]
