Hey all, since last writing we have travelled from Phuket up the coast a little way to Khao Lak a small beach town on the Andaman sea completely surrounded by jungle and mountains/hills. The journey was much the same as all our other ones involving several mini buses, one drops you in a lay-by where another is waiting. Once again all worked out perfectly and on time.
We got a taxi from a town called Phagn-nga (not to be confused with koh Pha-nagn where we are headed next!) Most expensive taxi so far, about 20 quid (I should probably explain that I have no Pound sign on this stupid keyboard! It’s set up wrong so I keep writing ‘quid’ a lot!) but pretty cheap as it was an hour and a half drive, all through the hills and jungles.
Our driver recommended a hotel/resort which turned out to be amazing, it’s a beach side resort with a swimming pool, and a private beach. Our room is huge and has air con/hot shower and bath the most luxury we have had so far. As it is low season here accommodation is really cheap our stay here is costing 15 pounds
per night. We have been here 6 days now and have done pretty much nothing but lay by the pool or on the beach.
We did venture out to find a waterfall one day which involved very nearly running out of petrol in our scooter then a long hot trek up hills through the jungle, but we found it eventually and after clambering over the rocks until we reached the falls. We swam in the freezing cold water.
Like I said before it is low season here, so there isn’t a lot going on locally, a lot of the businesses are shut down at the moment. However, it suits us as there are hardly any tourists here and it feels like we have the whole place to ourselves.
We leave tomorrow morning at 7.30ish to travel to Koh Pha-nagn an island on the other side of the country in the Gulf of Thailand. We arrive on the island at 17.30 so another fairly long journey.
We keep reading that the island gets pretty booked out around the time of the full moon party so we are heading there a few days before and will keep our fingers crossed
that we find somewhere to sleep!
Love to all,
Siobhan and Dan
