Kate here again... Yeah...so...hi everyone who's still stumbling upon our little neglected corner of cyberspace. :) If I'd been keeping up to date on Liza's hugely successful LizaWasHere blog, I might've realized that she's been linking to us here. Needless to say, we kinda lost our travel blog momentum over the 2nd half of our trip this past summer. By the time we realized that we'd fallen off the "updated regularly" wagon, we had soooooo many pictures and general fatigue from being on the road for so long, that everything just kinda fizzled. We also had a consistent yet annoy [View Full Entry]

Kate here... We have GOBS of pictures from Glacier that we owe you. It was amazing. To give you some perspective, we woke up at 6am the morning we left so that I could get some pictures of the sunrise over Lake McDonald, where we were camped, and I squeezed off 84 shots within 45 minutes (while Shay wondered where I was and packed everything all by herself 0:)...) Alas, there is no time for uploading pictures at the moment, as our jet-set lifestyle is taking us to the banks of the Missouri River here in North Dakota, where we'll be [View Full Entry]

Shay here, from a hotel room in Missoula, MT. We are relaxing in relative luxury for a night before heading up to Glacier tomorrow. We have to drop the dogs off for a stay at a kennel, since they are not allowed in the park. They are not excited about it, as is evidenced by the fact that they are both pouting on the hotel room floor. I think they can smell the bath water coming, kind of like how you can smell a big storm blowing in on the wind. Sorry we haven't been keeping up with the blog. It's [View Full Entry]

Kate here again... Not enough time to get the pictures up :( Sorry y'all. Hopefully we'll have some downtime in Chico on Friday/Saturday to get them up, and I promise to type up some more text at my Mom's tonight and tomorrow night. Shay says hello to everyone, and so does my Mom. -Kate [View Full Entry]

Kate here... We're winding down our last week here with my Mom in Honeydew. This past Saturday evening, we finished our 4 day/3 night backpacking trip down the Lost Coast. The weather was perfect, we barely saw anyone, and (aside from a couple of blisters and some sore muscles) managed to trudge our way down the coast with no problems or injuries. We saw an otter, lots of sea lions, and no bears. But when we got back to my Mom's house, a bear had broken into the horse barn twice going after grain with molasses. If it isn't a skunk [View Full Entry]

Kate here again... Just checking in to give a shout out to our blog peeps. We don't have any new pictures just yet, though we took a few down at the beach at the mouth of the Mattole River. The dogs enjoyed the ocean very much. We've been relaxing at my Mom's house, and I've been showing Shay around the area where I grew up here in Southern Humboldt. Today we carried a half-dozen pieces of plywood flooring into the house for my Mom. Woohoo fun. This weekend is the annual 4th of July BBQ (not always observed exactly on the [View Full Entry]

Kate here... We've been chillaxing with our friends Audrey and Erin at their brand new house in Bakersfield for a couple of days. The air conditioning is tres fabulous, as is the company. Congrats to Audrey and Erin and their new homeownership! When we last left you, we were trying to figure out how long we wanted to stay at Joshua Tree National Park. As we drove down I-40 towards the Arizona/California state line on Wednesday the 21st, we saw that the temperature was 110 as we approached the exit we'd have to take to Joshua Tree. At that point there [View Full Entry]

Kate here... Not much time again, so I'm trying to get all the pictures loaded up. I wish I had more time to comment on the comments, but hopefully we'll be able to do that through the phone in the car. I'm at the Mojave County Library in Kingman, AZ. Shay is up the street with the dogs at a PetCo, trying to find some paw protection for Emma G. She was tender-footed after our hike yesterday. Hualapai Mountain Park was a very nice change from the lowland desert camping we've been doing. Elevation in the park ranges from 4500 to [View Full Entry]

Kate here... We weren't originally planning on stopping for the night in New Mexico, but Palo Duro Canyon in Texas proved to be unworthy of two nights, at least to the 4 of us. So we found a few lakes near I-40 in New Mexico that looked like they might offer some decent camping. Santa Rosa Lake was the first stop, but it was not much to see. The primitive camping was far away from the water and had little to no shade. So we decided to take a bit of a longer drive south to Sumner Lake, which happens to [View Full Entry]

Shay here, sitting in a KOA campground in Holbrook, AZ. This place has the works! Free wi-fi, showers, a pool. We are in heaven. And no bugs! It's hot, but that's to be expected in a desert, I guess. The big to-do today was that Kate woke up this morning covered in a poison ivy rash. Poor thing. So she spent the day trying not to scratch and rinsing herself off with special soap every chance she got, while I searched for a pharmacy for more itch stuff and then spent the afternoon at a laundromat washing all our clothes and [View Full Entry]
