Short, not sweet.

 Asia » Laos » East » Phonsavan
Hey this internet place sucks but I'm in Phonsavan (the H is silent) and had the most incredible day ever. I'll hopefully write more tomorrow and it will be a really friggin' long entry so bear with me. All is well. I'll hope to be making my way south to 4,000 islands (Si Phan Don) eventually. I may have to go to Thailand and pick up a new camera in Bangkok. It's horrible to not have one. Check back soon for details about today! [View Full Entry]

Ahhhh.

Asia » Laos » West » Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang has been one of the best parts of the trip so far. I think this is the longest I've been in one place so far, and it's been really relaxing and enjoyable. Our Australian friends Sebastian and Elle left today, they were going to Bangkok and then London. So I'll miss those guys, we've been hanging out since we came to Laos. And on the bus from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang I met Dennis from Edmonton. He's a really cool guy and it's been nice to have someone who can handle a little guy talk. He plays drums [View Full Entry]

Delicacy!
Delicacy!
This is the first, and probably last time I will eat chicken feet. It wasn\'t too bad, just a waste of money because there\'s no meat on them. And Elle the Australian also enjoying some too. She wa... [more]
Vang Vieng is packed with tourists, so it's totally set up with fun things to do. Yesterday the girls, I and Elle and Sebastian form Australia went on a hike with guides to a cave, which we had to navigate with torches, so I felt kinda like Indiana Jones or something. Then we climbed way up a mountain to the bottom of a waterfall to swim and cook lunch. The pool at the bottom was very deep so the guide was showing off and jumped from a really high spot. Sebastian is one brave dude, and he convinced me to go [View Full Entry]

I hate the bus
I hate the bus
But when you get 2 seats to yourself (mostly because you are a big smelly westerner) it's heaven.
Haha, I bet you thought I was dead. Nope. But the heat could just about kill a guy. I'm in Laos now and I like it more than what I saw of Vietnam. It's less crowded, not humid, and man is it beautiful landscape out here. It turns out I was in Vietnam illegally so I'm lucky to be where I am right now. Somehow, my passport never got stamped at the airport when I first landed, but I got through customs and everything so I was none the wiser. Then a few days ago at the border crossing there was [View Full Entry]

Tailor Trauma

Best way to get around
Best way to get around
Taking a ride on the mopeds was so much fun! Makes me want to buy one...
We're in Hoi An and I'd have to say that this must be the clothing tailor capital of the world. You can have anything made to fit you perfectly...shoes, suits, dresses, shirts...anything! So it's an easy place to spend a traumatizing amount of money. And I did. I had a suit made for when my buddies decide to get married. Also, I got a couple of light cotton shirts made so I can throw some of my other shirts away that take too long to dry. The suit I will have to mail home. It's hard not to start buying gifts [View Full Entry]

Short stay

Asia » Vietnam » North Central Coast » Hué
Hey sorry it's been a while since my last post. We took a night train the night before last 12 or 13 hours to Hue. Train travel is the way to go. We had a car with sleeper compartmets in it...basically like 6 coffins crammed into a room. But I slept through most of the journey so it's like time travel....much better than trying to sleep in a seat. And it's fairly cheap too. This afternoon we've gotta get going because the girls' visas expire soon and we wanted to check out Hoi An. So we got about a 4 hour [View Full Entry]

Halong Bay is a big deal...now you can see why. It was amazing. This picture was taken at the mouth of a cave.
Well sorry I won't have any pitures of Halong Bay. My camera got snatched while I was walking around Hanoi. Shitty. But I bought a guitar, which makes me feel better. It came with extra strings and a soft case with backpack straps on it so it's not bad to carry around for now. And hell I only paid about 50 bucks brand new. Anyways we booked a tour for 2 days and 1 night on a boat that took us into halong bay. The scenery was so awesome but the weather was kinda a bummer. It wasn't sunny for long [View Full Entry]

This is a shot of the street below our hostel balcony. A string of cyclos (bike carriages)riding by.
Holy crap I considered bailing out of the plane about halfway across the Pacific Ocean. That ride was torture....but well worth it! From what I've seen so far Vietnam is an awesome country. I met up with Lindsay and Emily at the airport in Hanoi (thank god or I would have been totally lost) and we came straight to the hostel we're staying at. It's really cool, a dorm with 12 beds a couple floors up. I paid 5 bucks to stay 2 nights! The weather here right now is perfect. Any hotter and the humidity would kill me. I can't [View Full Entry]

A glimpse of where I spent a couple days of my life....on airplanes and in airports. You should have smelled me.
I leave on January 30th....whoa! It's about time, I've been hanging out wasting too much money all month. Mostly on beer, which I hear is what most travellers base their budget on anyways! [View Full Entry]
