I'm across the sea from peninsular Malaysia on Borneo! It's not like the other islands I've been catching some rays on. It's huge and it's rainforest. This is the closest to the Equator I've ever been....it's pretty freakin hot. I guess when I'm in Indonesia I'll be in the southern hemisphere for the first time. I'll definatley be watching which way the toilet flushes. Borneo is a nice place with lots of national parks and cool animals to see. It's famous for having tons orangutans so I'll probably go see some of those bastards. But they also have a lot of [View Full Entry]

Home for a week
This was my shack on the island. 5 bucks a night, critters included.
Ok well I guess this could be a long one. It's been a while. I left Kuala Lumpur I don't know how many days ago and headed for the magnificent Perhentian Islands. The weather was great and I think I got the best tan ever. But that was basically it....hanging out on the beach. The internet was outrageously expensive so I got some catching up to do now. The first day on the island I ran into Mark and Amber, two Canadians I met on the beaches of Cambodia. That was cool cuz they had a huge group all getting together [View Full Entry]

Midnight Meal
My first meal in Kuala Lumpur.
Yep. I spent about a week's budget on flights to get to Malaysia. But if I didn't fly it would have taken like a week to get here anyways so it was definately the way to go. And here I am in the capital of Malaysia. I had to fly from Hanoi, Vietnam to Bangkok, Thailand and then here to Kuala Lumpur. I could have done it in a day but I thought it'd be OK to hang out in Bankok for a day. I know, usually I hate being in Bankok but it was my last day with my friends [View Full Entry]

Ok this is ridiculous. I've done the south of Vietnam and loved it. But I've allready been to Hoi An on my first visit to the country. This is where I had my suit tailored. And now I went ahead and got a shirt and a couple pairs of shorts made. It's so cheap you just get sucked right into it. I'm going to breeze north to Hanoi and fly somewhere. It seems I'm getting a bit southeast asia-ed out. It's great but at the same time I'm totally sick of people thinking I'm a walking ATM. You can't go anywhere [View Full Entry]

They had a Shell logo painted on the other side. I actually ran out of gas later that day.
Wow it's great to be back in Vietnam! The beach at Mui Ne was amazing and a spectacular place to relax. There weren't any peddlers on the beach to harass you and I got to practice Poi (fire dancing) without the fire of course for hours. We took an overnight bus here to Nha Trang this morning and there's a lot more hustle and bustle going on but it seems to be great for parties. It worked out well for one of my travelmates Gemma because tomorrow is her birthday and there's a huge full moon party on the beach. My [View Full Entry]

Ok I'm now skipping through countries like a crazy fool. I joined up with Steph and Gemma (the English girls) and a Canadian guy and Swedish girl and her travelmate Paul from Wales. So it's a big crazy group of all the people I hung out with in Cambodia. I came to Saigon with Paul today, we stayed in Phnom Penh for a couple days trying to decide if we were going to meet everyone in Vietnam. So I'm back in Vietnam to see the south half, which I didn't see my first time in the country. I'm really excited to [View Full Entry]

This is the coolest kid I ever met. He sold bracelets that his mom makes at home and his dad is dead, so he's really poor.
I shot some guns in a shooting range at Phnom Penh. I tell ya, the Ak-47 was a real rush. I fired a few single rounds and then blasted the rest off in Automatic. Loudest thing I ever heard. You really had to lean in to it. I shot a handgun too, which is not easy like in the movies. I barely hit the target. You could shoot a cow with a rocket launcher if you wanted but it costs like 200 bucks and there's not even any meat left to eat, so screw that. I'll put up some pics and [View Full Entry]

The temple behing me is the largest religious structure in the world: Angkor Wat, located in the jungle near Siem Reap, Cambodia.
I decided to come to Cambodia with Stephanie and Gemma, two English girls I met in Pai. Ok I heard the road from the Thai border into Cambodia was bad but you can't even dream up a "road" like that. It would have been smoother to drive across the rice fields. The journey took 5 hours from Bangkok to the border, on an air-conditioned bus with reclining seats. Then at the Cambodian border we got ripped off on our visitors visa and paid 40 dollars which we later learned was double price. Next we hop on a small bus that looked [View Full Entry]

Nice Ride
Nice Ride
This was on a trail up to a waterfall.
I left Chiang Mai, there was just nothing left to do there....apart from thai boxing but I'll go back to try that out in a while. Songkran, the water festival, was the coolest thing I've ever seen happen in the streets anywhere. The first official day of the holiday, I took a cruise around the inner city moat (nothing like a moat full of water for the festival) in the back of a pickup truck. I went with the lady (who I found out is a ladyboy) that ran the guesthouse, a bunch of her friends, a dude from california and [View Full Entry]

Wet n' wild

Asia » Thailand » North » Chiang Mai
It's New Year's in Thailand and everyone comes to Chiang Mai. The water festival (I think it's called Sokran) is a national holiday but Chiang Mai is the best place to get soaked. And man is it hot. So I gladly got sprayed down today. But it's kinda the first day and Thai people are still arriving to be with friends and family so it hasn't reached peak craziness yet. I guess tomorrow everyone will be soaked and partying all day. Canada day, eat your heart out. These people just stop everything for 3 or 4 days and party while throwing [View Full Entry]
