On Friday we left Santorini on a ferry which took 8 hours. We easily jumped onto the metro and found our hotel in Athens. We had decided that one last Greek meal for supper was in order. We headed out looking for Greek Salad and Mousaka. On the Plaka, which is a pedestrian only streets with shops and restaurants right on the side walk you can view menu's from the different restaurants. As we were stopping to look at a menu the restaurant owner right next door came up and said here, here come look at mine. So we moved the whole 4 feet to look at his menu. The owner of the first restaurant came out shouting at the second owner and they really got into it. Some pushing and shoving. Just shows you the ... read more

I'm not sure why my previous post didn't post but I was able to post it today. After some nice sun this morning on our terrace for a change we decided to see more of the island. We took a public bus which is more like a coach to Perissa beach. Very deserted this time of year. The sand is Black! yes Black! and very pebbly. We are heading back to our hotel soon to finish up the rest of our junk food we bought. We are taking a ferry to Athens tomorrow morning and then on Saturday we fly back into Paris. Not really looking forward to Paris again but Nic is wanting to go to the louvre. Trip is almost finished, seen alot, hope I remember it! Getting home sick though. laurie and Nic ... read more

After the rain yesterday we were ready to do something today. Not much fun watching Greek television. Can't really understand too much. The english channels don't start until 8 or 9 at night. I woke up with a very sore back. Too much walking yesterday. We took a taxi into town, (we are staying in a village called Imerovigli) Got on a tour called the Caldera tour. By boat it takes you to the volcano island. They neglect to tell you that it's a 1/2 hour hike up a steep hill. There are 4 points in the hike A,B,C,D. With my back today, I made it to point A!!!!!! Nic went all the way and enjoyed it! By the time she got back down to me My Ibuprofen had kicked in and I felt better. Our ... read more

That was the fastest flight in the history of flights. Didn't have time to drink a glass of water. They served a chocolate filled croissant and a glass of water. My shoe had come untied before boarding the plane. I Didn't even have time to tie it on board. I have to tell you about Nic's blunder. She hastly packed her back pack for the flight and forgot her razor, jack knife and big bottle of water in it. Security only found the bottle but we still had to go back and check her backpack. Luckily we had time. We arrived in Santorini about 11 last night. That's about 3 in the afternoon for the rest of you. We got to our hotel which is more like an apartment. We will have to buy some food ... read more

We are still in Athens, We were supposed to be on a ferry to Naxos but the weather turned bad so it didn't go! so much for getting up at 5am. We had to wait until noon to find out what time the ferry would be going. 5:30pm was the word at that time. Well, that isn't happening. So we booked a flight to Santorini. We scrapped the island of Naxos and are just doing Santorini. I sure hope they have laundry there cause I'll be wearing the same socks over and over again if they don't. Athens is apparently 4 million people. We figured out the metro fairly easily. Yesterday we went to the Archelogical museum and spent about 2 hours there. Nic was very intrigued. I remember one of Sydney's friends who went to ... read more

well, a 5 hour train ride, a 7 minute taxi ride a 16 hour ferry ride, a 3 hour bus ride and we arrived in Athens! We then took a 10 minute metro to our hotel. Athens like all the other cities is big, lots of people etc. Today we walked 20 minutes to the acropolis. Nicola was some disappointed at all the scaffolding. They are always trying to restore these old monuments. One thing is forsure you wouldn't find a tour of this sort in canada, there are no hand rails to hang on to. If your not careful you could fall into a small hole etc. We were looking for an internet cafe but really there aren't that many here in Athens so i am using the computer of a travel agency. We booked ... read more

Naples and Pompei, that's the tour we went on today. It was by coach with as Nic puts it a bunch of old people. I'm not complaining though, it was one way to see something that we wouldn't have seen other wise. Naples is the capital of it's region in Italy with seemed to me a port for major import, export. The tour included lunch at a traditional italian restaurant. First was pasta, then salad with pork. Grapes for dessert. Pompei for those of you who are interested is a city that was built by the very wealthy a very long time ago. Right next to it is an active volcano but sleeping. It had erupted around 700 bc so they didn't know there was a city there until 1700 bc. They are excavating to this ... read more

Rome,,,,,, the city of love? not sure about that, our first impression was that it was very dirty. Warming up to it a bit though. I had read my last post and I'm thinking I need more sleep or something. That statue wasn't Michel angelo, it was sculpted by Michel Angelo. Anyways, onto Rome, We have trekked through the Colluseum, very large place. Today we have gone to a 3d back in time movie to learn all about Rome and how it came to be. That was very cool. We dared the metro (subway system) here in Rome, I must say it's alot easier than in Paris. It goes in 2 directions there and back. You can't screw up!!!!!! We went to the Trevi Fountain, Nic didn't want to throw a coin in the fountain, apparently ... read more

Oct 12th, 2007 WEll we are sitting in Florence Italy, beautiful city and the shopping meca of anything gucci, dolce gabana, etc. etc. Wonder what bruce would say if I brought home a leather jacket..... ummmmmm... We took a train, 3 hours from venice to florence. nice trains, very smooth, you sure learn alot of Italian or you will miss your stop. I had a young fellow sitting beside me on the train and when we arrived in florence he was fast asleep with ear phones in that I'm sure the whole train could hear his music. I literally had to pull his ear phone out of his ear to tell him EXCUSII, my stop! We have decided to stay in Florence for a second night. We have to move hotels though. We are just about ... read more

wow, already day 3 of our journey, time is going quite fast. we landed in paris and did a literal whirlwind tour. first Notre Dame cathedral. Lots of beggers outside, then we went up the Eiffel tower. In the pouring rain I might add. Day 2 we took the metro to Chateau de Versailles. Where Louis the 14th had his hunting lodge. Very large. I don't care what they say, the metro system is a little confusing, and, try to find it at night and in the rain. Most parissiens are very helpful but some just ramble on in French. Which brings me to another point, 7 Years of french in school and it hasn't helped at all. We have taken an over night train from France into Italy. That's an experience. WE shared our cabin, ... read more
