My experiences in Thailand have so far been mainly culture shock in terms of the way life is. How the Thai people live. When you travel unless you have money you are expected to immerse yourself in that countries customs and way of life. As for what I experienced this past weekend in Pattaya was definitely some culture shock but in a different way. First we left the house and went to a small pavilion on the side of the road. Public transportation is great here. You can flag a Bus down just like a taxi here. We waited about 20 mins for a bus that took us to Pattaya and that was 100 Baht or 3 dollars (he ripped us off). We arrived in Pattaya at about 8ish, thankfully Mary and Galen had a friend ... read more

So a couple days ago there was a Thai Holiday called childrens day taking place and I had no idea what to expect. Well Mary informs me that they completely dress the little kids from the school in different outfits for different dances. There were several different dance routines and it was a bigger deal than I was anticipating. The dances ranged from traditional thai to a techno themed crazy dance and from ages 5-11. I have a video that shows off some of the young ladies dancing and they are decked out with make up and look like tiny women, kind of creepy when you are standing right next to them, not to mention I am a huge white guy filming them to make it even creepier haha. I am not one for children but ... read more

So for the past week I have been in Chonburi, Thailand and my friend Lindsey was nice enough to take me out for the weekend to Bangkok to meet up with some of her friends who teach english there. They live in a decent apartment complex and they each have their own room with a bathroom. We hang out until we are ready to go for a night out on Khao San which is a heavy backpacking community. First though we stop at this high class foreign club that is very nice. I didnt expect this so i wasnt dressed appropriately. I had on sandels and shorts. Well thats not welcome into such a nice place. So Braden a guy we are hanging out with asks his friend Yash whos very very wealthy to pull some ... read more

Well im going to be quite honest. The night I arrived in thailand i was rethinking things because almost nobody seemed to know any good english and I was freaking out in my youth hostel not liking my first experience with the country. I was laying in bed from 2am to 7am from jet lag in my dorm and already feeling slight culture shock at everything that I didnt have access too(netlix, american TV, food, english). Which was expected but different once you actually have no access to it. So I checked out of my youth hostel and started walking around at 7:30am and things immediately changed. The street i stayed on is a huge backpacking community which i didnt realize was as big as it was, there are backpackers everywhere!!! Most of them speak english ... read more

So funny story, I arrive in the airport in Thailand at 12:00am local time, and the language here is crazy, everyone here speaks slaughtered english, which is expected but its a pain in the but when you just flew in a jet for 22 hours. I get through the passport checkpoint and customs and then i go up too a Taxi stand to get a Taxi for my hostel. Well little do i know that i accidentally got a Limo Taxi and it only cost me about 30 dollars for a 40 min drive. I arrive at my hostel and then I run into another problem, i booked the hostel for 1:00am on Jan 4th, apparently you still have to book the jan 3rd to sleep there that night so I do not get my room ... read more

Well the time is getting closer and closer... 6 months of planning and saving money is about to set into motion. the last 7 years in Terre Haute has been pretty enlightening and it has sculpted me into the person I am today but more so it was the people I met in there that had the most effect, from Terre Haute North, Dairy Queen, and Texas Roadhouse. Im going to update my blog as often as I can so people can live vicariously through me and see what other parts of the world have to offer. One of my goals in doing that is keeping the writing short and to the point so there is no dull reading with plenty of pictures for visual gratification. To recap on my life in midwest America, it consisted ... read more

The count down to Thailand... My first post for travel specifically. I am not sure what to expect in terms of pragmatics during my ensuing journey, such as where the road will take me and what I shall do. However the experience will take me to the highest and maybe the lowest points of my life and the values and lessons I learn shall at least be documented. January 2nd probably one of the top five biggest days of my life, including the day that I chose to travel. Ha lets just hope there is no snag with my passport and so on before I leave. Now before I go I want to state my rough itinerary before leaving to see how things change with execution. I am flying to Thailand and then I want to ... read more
