Day 10 - Colca Canyon This day started very early as the bus collected us from our hostel at 6.30am to drive deep into the canyon. It was again a beautiful day with clear blue sky and sunshine. The bus immediately started out on un-felted pothole ridden roads. The road started to cling the face of the canyon with a several thousand foot drop to one side. Day 9 - Colca Canyon Our tour guide picked us up from our digs at around 8:00 am. It was a small group of twelve crammed into a mini bus. The group was made up of a mixture of nationalities. All the Spanish and English speakers formed there own respective groups. Our guide for the two day tour was called Caesar and our driver George. Day 7 - Arequipa sight seeing Our bus arrives at the terminal in Arequipa at 6am following a night sleeping on the bus that was surprisingly OK. After collecting our backpacks we find a taxi to take us to our hostel. We were unsure if the hostel would welcome us at this early hour, however they were really friendly and took us straight to our room and offered us breakfast. Day 5 - Ica to Nazca We chill out in the morning sunshine enjoying our time at the hotel as we may not get this level of comfort for a while! At 11am we get a taxi to Ica where we wait for the bus. It is very hot so waiting an hour for the bus was hard work. It was a scenic 4 ½ hour transfer. The coach drove through large mountain ranges as well as desert and more greener areas. Day 3 - Lima to Ica Today we got the bus from Lima to the desert oasis Huacachina near Ica. We wake up early Peru time (Nearly lunchtime in the UK as Peru is 5 hours behind) after a good night sleep in our first hostel. We have bread and jam with a fruit smoothie for breakfast made by the staff. We call home using skype from our room. 1 train,1 tube, 2 buses,2 flights, 1 taxi and 22 hours later we have arrived in Lima! After we walked out of immigration and into the arrivals waiting area we start to look for a man holding a board with the name of our hostel on. We searched for about 20 minutes but to no avail. Called the hostel to confirm the reservation and they said everything is set for the 28th but today is the 27th,checked all the emails on the laptop and sure enough we booked the wrong day (great start!). Day 1 - D-Day, The start of our big adventure Well this is our first blog! Currently sat on the train from Wakefield to Heathrow after a tiring day of packing and getting ready for departure. We are staying at Heathrow tonight as we have an early flight to Madrid in the morning. Our flight is at 7.30am and arrives in Madrid a couple of hours later, before getting a 12 hour flight to Lima (Peru). We have had a very busy couple of weeks.
