Hello all you lovelies Just to respond to some of your comments - Susan , its not clever presentation at all - I cannot take the credit - I just upload the photos and the blog site arranges them on the page...good isnt it. Great to hear from you, Penelope, and if I can make anyone smile I am happy about that too. Les- you can do better than that with your poetry - and about the church bells- apparently people complained about them ...and I thought they should have lived in Dubai and then they would have something to complain about !!! John - you made me laugh as usual!!! I was told that the kangaroos just sit there while the golfers tee off and take no notice of balls heading their way. So I ... read more

How I love this home/hospitality exchange and I am constantly overwhelmed by the friendliness and warm welcomes I receive. So yesterday I left my hosts Anna and Bill yesterday having had a great stay with them and travelled to Mandurah about 65 km south of Perth....to meet my new host family - Julie, Gary and their lovely daughter, Leanne. Julie's friends were concerned that I might be an axe -murderer and what was she doing letting a stranger into her house!!! This can someitmes be the response of folk who have never experienced home exchange but once you have tried it there is no going back and for me it makes travelling alone such a great and varied experience. Home comforts- Julie makes a very good spag bol- new friends with local knowledge - it is ... read more

Second blog today - I am trying to catch up with the news. If you read the Canada Trip blog 2 years ago you may remember my search for bear’s claws ( wooden not real) - well this time its Kangaroos Paws - and no I haven’t bought a gun …this is the name of some beautiful wildflowers. Highlight of the day yesterday was a trip to Kings Park in Perth ( and it’s the wildflower season here). Luckily I was shown round by a local as I met up with my friend Jill’s distant cousin Miriel and she knew quite a lot about the Aussi flora ( flowers not margarine). So thanks Jill for introducing me to Mireil. We wandered the park and even a little off the path adventure into the bush( not far from ... read more

Fremantle and Kings Park in Perth. I have just arrived in Mandurah 60 km south of Perth but need to write up the last 2 days. As Suzanne would tell you it is obligatery to have a boat trip on our travels . So this was the first one this trip . Travelling to Fremantle on the Swan River by boat takes about 1 hour and the shores are lined with homes of the very rich. Fremantle was gentrified somewhat when the Americas Cup came here a few years ago and it is a lovely small city …with lots of character…having maintained many of its old ( well you know when I say old I mean old for Australia) buildings and some have those beautiful Victorian wrought iron balconies. Of course there are lots of nice ... read more

It's great to have a local show you round and Anna has been taking me around the sights of Perth today. Great to see some old buildings have been preserved amongst the soaring modern ones. There is quite a bit of digging up main roads and new developments but in spite of that you can see what a lovely city it is with its parks along the Swan River... a lovely Bell Tower has the bells from St Martins in the Field...so lovely to hear them chiming out. There is a very nice re-develope area in East Perth - lots of cafes, restos POSH EXPENSIVE houses and apts. We walked around - also saw some aboriginal stones representing a dream journey. Always looking for a cheapo or a bargain as you know - I was thrilled ... read more

(Written last night 4th Oct) Yes - I have arrived in the Southern hemisphere, in Perth Western Australia. Need I sing the praises of Singapore’s Changi airport - if you have been there you know how amazing it is and if you haven’t been then it is worth a trip to Singapore just for the airport!!! And a little café just inside the security (which didn’t bother with plastic bags and liquids of 50ml only rules by the way) does marvellous French toast with a sort of syrup ( no idea what it was)and butter. Just though I better tell you what I had to eat since this is also turning out to be a food journey. Flew with Singapore Air again - brill. Shopping News - Bought myself a little treat at Changi - a ... read more

Hi evryone and thanks for all the comments and messages- it really makes me feel good to get them. If you are new to the blog thingy - the difference between making a comment and a message is that when I accept the comments they public on the blog - so anyone can read them...messages just sort of stay in my blog inbox.... So what have I been doing... well of course eating out here is a big feature and Fabien is great at knowing just where to go and what to eat when you get there. Sunday lunch Chinese tradition is Dim Sum ( a change from Sunday roast and yorkshires) and thats where we have just been...I will get Sharon to write down the names of all the different dishes so that next time ... read more

Hello from Singapore… welcome to my blog and if you are new to it I hope you will enjoy keeping up with me…if you read blogs of my last travels then I hope you will not be bored and still keep up with me.. At last the long awaited departure day arrived and on Wednesday the lovely Ray kindly whisked me off to Heathrow. T 3 - has had some improvements I must say…good checkin and security but still rather cramped in the food area. Full marks to Singapore Air - they really are a super airline to fly with. I actually enjoyed the flight and didn’t really notice the time passing. I avoided looking at my watch and thought in chunks of time. So my time was spent reading the magazines, then a very nice ... read more

Hi all This is my last blog for this trip - apart from when I get home and put a few photos on . Tomorrow evening I fly back home from Toronto and will be back at Gatwick on Tuesday morning. These last few days have been a nice easy time - no big drives or spectacular scenes - but some lovely local walks in Conservation areas - one was by Lake Ontario to savour the last colours of fall. Also I met up with an old friend and work colleague, Elisabeth, from when I worked in the Psychiatric Hospital here - we hadnt seen each other for 35 years - so that was a lot of catching up to do and we said we looked the same - but different hair dos and a few ... read more

Hi all Now that I am in Kingston in one place for a week I have got computer access so I can get up to date. Re- the bear paws - no I am not going around killing bears and cutting their little paws off ( with my Swiss army knife) - the bear paws in question are salad servers made from lovely Canadian cherrywood - we saw them out West and of course I didnt buy them there cos I though "I am not carrying them all over Canada with me"- but attempts to find them in various places in Ontario failed ( although last of the big spenders -I did get a butterdish - that's another story!!). But today in a lovely gift shop in Kingston i found them at last. On Saturday I ... read more
