Hi everyone, Report on 3 days in Toronto last week. You must all be wondering what these 2 famous people in the headline have in common - well on a visit to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto I was able to see one of Marie Antoinette's gorgeous dresses and also Sitting Bull's war bonnet alongside other items of his clothing. The ROM is bringing items out of the Archives for certain periods of time giving us ordinary folks a chance to have a peek!!! There is always such a strange and wonderful feeling for me reaching back into history when you view something like this or stand by the grave of Wordsworth or the tomb of Napoleon . So thank you ROM. There has been some controversy in Canada over the building called The ... read more

From Brantford Ontario. Well, who would believe it but I have been lying in the sun by Bev and Peter’s pool - 26 deg here - blue blue skies and it was so tempting that I actually had a dip in the pool - Peter did warn me about hypothermia - but I took no notice till I got in. Took my breath away - swam up and down VERY QUICKLY and go out. It did cool me down though. This is Thanksgiving Weekend in Canada - and to top it all it was my host’s Ruby Wedding Anniversary. So we have been celebrating. This has been a really lovely week here - relaxing and chilled out enough after the hectic Rockies part of my trip - but also a lovely time to catch up on ... read more

The last day with Billybob and I dropped the girls off in Whistler so that they could do the seaplane adventure flight to Vancouver leaving me to drive Billybob. The weather was wonderful and I tried to persuade Suz to drive BB and I would take her place in the plane but she wasn't having any of that!!! And because the baggage allowance on the plane was minimal they kindly borrowed my rucsac repacked some stuff for the night in the hotel and left their cases behind for me . They are such sweet girls ...I tried making them feel guilty ... read more

I am getting so confused - writing this up a week after - that I forgot to say - we did see a bear. Left you all last time we were at Paul Lake, so peaceful in the morning down by the lake and watching one or too fishermen out there - a loon on the lake and some fish jumping - perfect. Lovely little houses there lots of B&Bs and a great cafe - which had aspecial on that day especially for Suzanne ... read more

North America » Canada » Alberta » Jasper National Park October 3rd 2008

Hi everyone Got to try and catch up before I set sail ( well fly actually) to Ontario tomorrow. So where was I - setting off on the Icefields Highway to Jasper I think. This is one of those roads in the world that you don't want to miss - and it does not fail to live up to expcectations - the mountain scenery and colours of the rivers and lakes as well as the autumn colours of the trees and most of the time the sun was shining made this an exceptional trip. There was snow on the mountains and that outlines the rock beds and made it look even more beautiful...so we were in awe most of the time. This was the chance for the girls to have a go at driving Billybob and ... read more

Hi again I am hoping to get up to date now - we have done so much in the last 2 days from our base in Canmore - just outside the Banff Park Gates. I drove from Drumheller to Canmore on Saturday and it was sunny and warm and quite lovely driving on the straight prairie roads then suddenly you are in some rolling foothills and over a ridge the Rocky Mnts loom ahead. The trees are lovely Fall colours and as I took the old Highway 1A - Bow Valley road it was a very lovely drive. I am very happy with the RV - it doesnt feel too BIG once you are driving - and once I got a pillow behind me I can reach the pedals so I am ok!! It is well ... read more
