Arriving at Calgary airport - evryone is so friedly with folks in cowboy hats calling Welcome to Calgary etc - not quite like Heathrow - and tho' I didnt spot him Suz and Tracie said there was a real hunky guy on the passport control. Hello everyone - it's Beeny rabbit here. She has packed her cases and I am wondering if she is going to put me in the rucsac or a case. I like peeking out of the rucsac - can't stand being in the hold - its b**** freezing in there. I like going on these trips with her - she let me sit on the dash in NZ when we were driving the camper van. I think they call them RVs in Canada and I have seen a picture of the one she is getting - it's VERY BIG!! Last time she called the camper "Betty" but this one doesn't look like a "Betty" to me...but then I am only a rabbit - wot would I know. I hope we dont meet any scary bears - teddy ... read more

Hello to all friends and family, Most of you know that I have been travelling here and there in the last 18 months since the big trip to Down Under. That was the first time I used Travelblog and it was a great way to keep in touch as well as record all the "happanings". Well on Thursday I will be flying off to Calgary at the start of a 6 week trip in Canada. For the first 2 weeks Suz and Tracie will be with me and we are "doing" The Rockies to Vancouver - and then I will continue my trip to Ontario - visiting "old" friends and making new ones with the help of my Intervac hospitality swaps. So I think I am at the stage of all systems go now - only ... read more

No-one told me that when you get back after 22hours of flying( 10 hours from Auckland to Singapore , then 12 hours from Singapore to London) - even with a 2 day break in the middle- that I would be waking up at 4am thinking of wot to write in my blog!!!! Of course my brain and body are on New Zealand time. Jet lag didn’t seem to bother me going East but maybe it’s catching up with me now …or is it just because the travels have ended?? Last entry on the blog I had arrived in Auckland …. a city known for traffic problems. I can vouch for that on a Friday afternoon if you are arriving by bus - you are likely to get caught in a nice big traffic jam….reminiscent of the ... read more

Hi all- Arrived in Auckland this afternoon so I have to catch up with what has been happening the last few days in the North Island. I was staying at Havelock North, near Hastings in Hawkes Bay and the weather wasn't looking too good so I went off to the town of Napier to have a look at their Arrt Deco town. The town previously was devasted in as earthquake in the early thirties - a huge tract of land was raised up from the sea which meant the town then could expand as they rebuilt and so they chose to build in the Art-Deco style.....well there is a very good tour you can take walking around the town with a very nice volunteer guide and have a slide show telling you all about it.......and now ... read more

Hi everyone Well I have about a week to catch up on...havent had Internet availablity for a few days and done a lot of travelling. Last time I was in Queenstown and setting off for Fjoirdland - well yes it was as amazing as everyone says it is. I have been so lucky with the weather too, it was a bit murky at Te Anau but now enought to stop me taking a trip over the Lake and to the Glow worm caves..never seen anything like that before ... a little boat ride inside the caves in complete darkness and silence and glow worms hanging from the rock above...was lovely. Rain that night was good news as you need rain for the waterfalls all the way to Milford Sound. Wot a spectacle...I was lucky to choose ... read more

3 days in Queenstown It’s Monday now and I arrived here on Saturday after a wonderful drive again from Mount Cook. Gorgeous weather again, but I couldn’t get a flight from Glenntanner - because I would have had to wait a couple of hours and then they wait until they have 4 passengers - so I could have been there all day- and had to get going. The roads are very good - not too busy at all, and although there are a few roads up to tops of passes where there are a few km of winding steep bits - I have driven on worse roads in Mallorca and France - but many of the road are through wide mountain passes and are nice and straight and wide. Lots of picnic places and passing places ... read more

Writing about Thursday I am losing count of when I last did the blog so I think I had just had the van delivered on Wednesday and had a trip over the Banks Peninsula to try her out. Planning the days and trying to get to see as much of this lovely country as I can, I have decided to see if I can have Betty for an extra couple of days and then spend a bit of extra time here in the South Island. There is a Trans Alpine Highway from Christchurch to the West coast going via Arthur’s Pass (924m)so I made that my trip on Thursday - I had in mind to do a walk there- having brought my walking boots all this way I thought I better use them!!! There are not ... read more

Here I am in New Zealand so I have a bit of catching up to do….as last time I think I was in Byron Bay. We left the posh apartment there and traveled up the Gold Coast of Queensland to Brisbane…saw the area called Surfers Paradise….high rise skyline which reminded me of Dubai….. a huge casino and masses of development…definitely not my idea of paradise. We hadn’t a clue where we were going as we drove into Brisbane but on the map I saw South Bank and a Tourist Info sign( Brisbane is on a river)- so we headed for there and amazingly then saw a Rydges Hotel ( we had one in Dubai so I guess it registered with me!!!) -And we were right in the South Bank area with lovely cafes and walkways along ... read more
