07 May 2013 The dom (cathederal) in Passau has one of the largest organs in the world with over 17,000 pipes and each day at noon a recital is given on this outstanding instrument. We therefore decided to go back into the town to have a listen and were not disappointed. The resident organ master filled the building with incredibly intricate music and a staggering array of notes. In the afternoon we commenced our Danube journey and drove 40k along a pretty riverside road to Schlogen where there are two tight bends. We found a campsite in a lovely position and went for a steep 45 minute walk to a viewpoint where we overlooked the meanders.... read more

06 May 2013 The journey across Germany was completed today with a 350k drive to Passau which is an attractive town close to the Austrian border and on the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers. We found an excellent free camper stop close the Danube and a sort bus ride or 40 minute walk to the town centre. In the afternoon we went in, admired the cruise ships tied up on the river docks, climbed the steps to Verte Oberhaus castle which gave us magnificent views over the town and its rivers and visited the green onion domed 15th century baroque cathedral with its ornate stucco and fresco interior. The day finished with a tasty meal of local food and wine in the restaurant garden before we caught the bus back. An enjoyable start ... read more

05 May 2013 We drove 400 miles through Belgium and Germany and stayed at a site in the village of Bettingen just west of Wurzburg on the banks of the river main. While we were enjoying the warm and sunny evening eating our supper sitting outside the van, several large cargo and cruise ships sailed by.... read more

04 May 2013 The packing up took us longer than hoped. Consequently we left home late and after a short delay on the M25 we caught the 5.25 Dover Calais ferry with five minutes to spare. However a pleasant supper on board relaxed us. Once in France we drove the 35k to a favourite Aire of ours at the walled town of Bergues, just south of Dunkerque.... read more

03 May 2013 When we toured Germany in 2009 the furthest east we got on the Danube was the attractive town of Regensburg. Tomorrow we are starting on a seven week trip which will follow the river from there through Austria and Hungary, visiting Vienna and Budapest on route. We then plan to travel south through Croatia to Dubrovnik and return home via Slovenia.... read more

29 October 2012 We caught the 09.50 Calais Dover ferry enjoying the luxury of the Club Lounge during the crossing. The drive home was uneventful with the usual delays on the M25 and we arrived soon after lunch having completed 5,634 miles since leaving on 12 September. The professional organisation, planning and support by Kevin and Nurcan Griffiths on behalf of GB Privilege has meant that during the trip we were able to experience many of the outstanding features in Western and Central Turkey and stay at convenient and often beautifully positioned camp sites. We also had the opportunity of visiting other locations not on the itinerary. The fellowship and friendship extended by the other members of the party has been a real bonus. The one thing we have missed is the excitement of ... read more

28 October 2012 We woke up to sub zero temperatures and a heavy frost under a clear sky. After de-freezing the van we drove 300k through the Ardennes, into Belgium and then to the attractive fortified town of Bergues just south of Dunkirk where we have stayed previously.... read more

27 October 2012 After eight weeks of mostly hot sunny weather, we were brought down to earth today. Following a night of continuous rain, when we pulled out of the fromagerie it was evident that the trees higher up on the surrounding hills were covered in snow. We needed to cross the 949m high Col du Bonhomme in the Vosges Mountains. As we ascended the rain soon turned to snow and we went over the Col in a blizzard! We drove into the town of Nancy in the Lorrain Region, found ourselves a convenient disabled parking spot and in bitterly cold weather had a quick look at Place Stanilas, one of the best examples of 18th century Neoclassical urban planning that can be seen. As the day wore on the weather improved and our next visit ... read more

26 October 2012 We bade a sad farewell to Kevin and Nurcan who had looked after us so well during our Turkish adventure and then drove north through Switzerlandand into the Haut Rhine area of France. Many wooded areas on route were showing their beautiful autumn colours even in the dull weather. A fromagerie, one of the France Passion chain of motor home stop overs was our parking spot for the night. We were able to look at the factory and purchased one of their cheeses and a bottle of the local Alsace wine for our supper.... read more

25 October 2012 Many of the group made their own way home from Bologna. So after a series of goodbyes, five of us left for Milan, arriving at lunchtime. In the afternoon we went into the city centre for a couple of hours. Milan’s Duomo is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. It’s built from local marble, is covered with a multitude of statues and has many spires both large and small. We went inside, walked around outside and took a closer look at the fantastic detail by taking a walk around the roof. The rest of our time in this impressive city centre was spent walking through the opulent 19th Century Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping centre to look at the world famous La Scala opera house. Our last day with the group was ... read more
