On this morning, we packed our tent, did groceries and left for the beautiful Lake Louise. It is incredible how the color of the glacier water is different at each place. Lake Louise was more like a minty green. Sometimes it really looks unreal! (Tip: if ever you want to go visit this place, be sure you get there early to beat the crowd). So anyways, we decided to do another full day hike even though our body was hurting from the one yesterday! lol We first started on Mirror Lake and then it connected to the beautiful trail of the Plain of the Sixth Glaciers. As we walked the trail, we could see Lake Louise more and more from the distance. What we liked about this trail is that almost to the end of it, ... read more

We got up early this morning and left towards Moraine Lake, which is about 30 minutes from our campground. This place is AMAZING! We have never seen water this colour before. The color of the water makes you feel like you are in the Carribbean, but surrounded by the Canadian Rockies. It is really nice! After admiring this beautiful lake, we decided to go on our 5.6 KM hike called The Valley of the Ten Peaks at the Eiffel Lake (which is in Moraine Lake area). The first part was very tough. we gain an elevatioun of 320 meters. Let's not forget that we have never hiked a REAL mountain! lol Anyways, once that tough part was over, we walked along the side of a mountain on a narrow trail. This was probably the best part ... read more

Early this morning, we left towards Banff National Park. We got on the highway and we were shocked how well you could see the rockies from Calgary. We never noticed them because the other days were very cloudy. So this is where the excitement began! As we drove that direction, the mountains got closer and closerr! WOW!! This place is so gorgeous and it is just the entrance to the park! The first thing we did, got our campsite and ate. After supper, we decided to go visit cave and basin. It was pretty cool but it stank really bad (Hot springs, which smells like sulphur)! lol It was because of this spot that we got our National Park System. After this place, we decided to go on the Gondola, which was a big ripoff! But ... read more

Around 2:00 PM, we decided to leave the park and go to the STAMPEDE! . This is something we both looked foward to. So we got to our campground (Mountain View) at 5:30, pitched our tent and got ready quickly because there was a bus going straight to the stampede at 6:15 PM. We were pretty glad that we didn't drive there! Traffic was terrible. So instead, we got the chance to just relax in the bus. That felt great! When we finally arrived at the stampede, we rushed to get our tickets to go see the chuckwagon race at 8:00. We thought that was awesome! IT was crazy to see how the horses were going fast and also the driver being full of mudd when they finished the race. In all, we thought the chuckwagon ... read more

So after Cypress Hill (Alberta side), we headed towards the Dinosaur Provincial Park. When we got there, we just stopped at the viewpoint and it was quite the sight (this provincial park is a badland and it is HUGE!). Anyways, we set up our tent and headed towards a little trail. We didn't go very far because we couldn't see where the trail went and there were also big stormy clouds coming. So we headed towards our campsite. Thank god we did because our tent might of flown away. lol So this was pretty cool, in 30 minutes, the storm clouds moved in, it started to pour, high winds, hail, and it was over! lol It was pretty crazy!! July 8th - Dinosaur Provincial Park The next morning, we went on a guided tour first thing ... read more

Cypress Hills Alberta was pretty nice too, not as nice as the sask. side though. We had a campsite with a great view. At night we went up to another high elevation point with a great view of the plains, and tried really hard to get some nice pics... lol. The next day we went on a nice drive and tried to find a particular trail and had no luck... Mel wasn't too pleased. Damn poor signage. argghh. ... read more

After the Great Sandhills, we decided to head to The Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park (it is a park that is share between Saskatchewan and Alberta). The first thing we noticed when we got to our campsite is the crazy trees, which are called logde pole pines (we think that they might use those trees to built log cabins eheheh). Anyways, we thought they were pretty cool because every tree was super tall, but the needles where only on the top trying to catch to sunlight. That night we decided to hit the hay early and get up early the next day. What a great view of the prairies. In the morning we did a few really nice trails in the forsests there, and we also went to the highest elevation east of the rockies! That was ... read more

After our journey to Grasslands National Park, we headed towards the Great Sandhills, located in Saskatchewan. Can you believe that there is a little desert in Canada??? It is pretty cool eh??? The sand was really smooth and it felt soooo great on our feet! ehehehhe...It was a different texture of any sand that we ever touched. It was pretty cool! :) Anyways, we got there, but we didn't really have the chance to explore the place for very long because there was big stormy clouds coming towards us. That is why we only explored the beginning of the Sand dunes. However, we still enjoyed the place and thought that it was well worth the stop. ... read more

We called ahead to see for camping in the Grasslands, and a really nice Woman Collette (who was our tour guide the next day) set us up with everything we needed. Our campsite was unlike any other we had been at so far. It had an amazing view of the park and we arrived just in time for the sunset. It was in an open field up on a hill beside an abandoned convent. The mosquitoes were UNBAREABLE. We put up the tent and watched the sunset from in there. In the middle of the night, we started to hear some yipping and barking and howling from a pack of Cayotes (we think), and it was getting closer and closer to where we were. We were pretty scared!!! We were practically not breathing to be sure ... read more

We headed down south to see Big Muddy Badlands, the drive was really enjoyable! We had the beautiful Big Saskatchewan sky to look at and the we had the back roads all to ourselves. It was really beautiful in it’s simple way, endless fields and endless sky. Along the way we say all sorts of cute little buggers along the side of the road. Nigel thought that they we’re Prairie Dogs, he was super excited about it. In the small town where the tours left from, we stopped to enquire, but they would have cost us $100 for a tour guide, so we passed on it. We did pick up a cool book with all sort of stories about outlaws and the history of the area. The people we’re very nice and suggested us to goto ... read more
