The drive into the grasslands
We called ahead to see for camping in the Grasslands, and a really nice Woman Collette (who was our tour guide the next day) set us up with everything we needed. Our campsite was unlike any other we had been at so far. It had an amazing view of the park and we arrived just in time for the sunset. It was in an open field up on a hill beside an abandoned convent. The mosquitoes were UNBAREABLE. We put up the tent and watched the sunset from in there.

In the middle of the night, we started to hear some yipping and barking and howling from a pack of Cayotes (we think), and it was getting closer and closer to where we were. We were pretty scared!!! We were practically not breathing to be sure we were quiet. Shortly after, the sounds from the pack started to go farther and farther. We heard them again a few more times during the night. It was pretty crazy.

We learned the next morning that they were cayotes and that they wouldn’t have harmed us. Pheew!!! They were probably making all the noise because they had made a kill.

July 6 - The Grasslands National Park

We got up nice and early to go out on a guided hike of the park. We went to 70 Mile Butte, with the guide and a nice family from Sask. We learned a lot of interesting facts about the area and the First Nations and how they lived there. Melanie loved the part where we learned how to make a tipi. It was pretty pretty funny because that night we were able to camp in a tipi!!! That night in the tipi we experienced a bit of a Sask.storm. It was crazy windy, with lightning and a bit of rain. Our tipi held strong!!!
