We ended up staying for 5 nights in Ko Tao, mainly because if you stayed for 4 nights you got the next night free. It was a nice beach resort with a small town. The only shame was that the beach was very dirty, so much litter everywhere. Our hotel cleaned up each day but no one else bothered. Their main asset & they dont look after it. We planned on doing some trips, but as usual we couldnt be bothered. I was very tired & spent alot of the time asleep!! Goodness knows how I will cope being back at [View Full Entry]

We spent a few days in Penang. It was dirty & smelly ( we even saw a rat in an open drain), so didnt do an awful lot apart from see a couple of mosques & visited Fort Cornwallis. The Fort was where a Brit, Sir Francis Light first stepped ashore in 1796. Wont bore you with any more details, but it was quite interesting to be there. After that we got the ferry back to Butterworth & a train over the boarder to Thailand. The seats were comfortable for the long journey & made up into beds at night. We [View Full Entry]

We are coming Home

Asia » Thailand » South » Ko Samui
Hi everyone As promised, to keep you all updated, we have changed our return flights & we now will be home by lunch time of the 6th June. So looking forward to catching up with you all. We will have done just over 8 months, but its getting a bit too much for me now & its time to call it a day. HSBC have been in contact to confirm my maternity rights & I will go back to work on the 23rd June. Hoping to work for a couple of months before I then go on maternity leave. Strangely excited [View Full Entry]

We had a short flight from Chiang Mai to Kuala Lumpur & stayed in chinatown for a few days. The highlight was seeing the Petronas Towers. They were the tallest twin towers in the world until fairly recently & were very impressive. They give away free tickets to go up to the skybridge on the 42nd floor which connects the 2 towers together & gives you a good view over KL. The towers look even more impressive at night all lit up. We had a nice meal watching the sun go down & the lights come on. We went to the [View Full Entry]

Our Journey North

Asia » Thailand » North » Chiang Mai
Hello all, hope you are well We had one night in Bangkok after Hong Kong before getting the bus to Kanchanburi. Its where the bridge over the river kwai stands. During the 2nd world war 300k prisoners of war & asian labourers worked on building the bridge & because of the poor conditions, malnutrition etc, over 100k died. It was quite a moving place. The idea was conceived by the Japanese after allies blocked the sea routes in 1942. It only took 6 months to complete. We also visited the war cemetary & saw many english, dutch, australian & thai graves. [View Full Entry]

We spent 3 days in Bangkok. It hadnt changed much since we were last there 6 years ago. Everything seems to be just as cheap too which is good as our budget is now officially blown. We are living on fresh air & love now. It means we may well come home earlier than planned. The whole purpose of Bangkok was to get my next ultra sound scan done & just to relax & enjoy our lovely hotel & pool. The hotel recommended a clinic to us which was more like a plush hotel. You name it, you could get it [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone We had a fantastic trip to see Ayers Rock which was more impressive than I thought it would be. We went with Mulga Tours which is part of Annies hostal where we stayed in Alice Springs. It was the cheapest we could find & I highly recommend them. Highly professional & efficient. There were 2 mini buses full of guests & we were looked after by Scooter & Fiona. It was a long drive, but well worth it. We had several rest stops along the way, including visiting a camel farm where some of the girls on our trip [View Full Entry]

The Olgas

From Airlie we drove to a Uni town called Townsville where we celebrated Miles 36th birthday. We ended up staying in a hostel with shared facilities as the Davis Cup was on so all accomodation was either full or they had hiked the prices up for that weekend. The 4 of us had a nice lunch on a jetty overlooking the sea & had a chilled bottle of white wine, raising a toast to Miles. I bought Miles a book called 'So you are going to be a dad' which he is avidly reading, whilst I am reading a book Erin [View Full Entry]

Mossman Gorge
Barrons Falls

We spent a total of 3 nights at Airlie beach. It had a nice beach but we couldnt go swimming there because of the killer jelly fish!! Instead we spent some time lazing round a huge salt water pool overlooking the sea. There we met a lady with a 6 months old wallaby called Cassie. She was promoting wildlife volunteer work. Cassie's mum was killed by a car & she has been brought up by the lady & will eventually be returned to the wild. She was gorgeous, so soft & cuddly. We then had 2 days & 1 night on [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone Wow, we have seen some beautiful places on our way up the east coast of Australia & are having a fab time. We have hired a renault megane for the journey & Miles, Chris & Tina are all taking their turn at driving. We have over 3000ks to travel over 3 weeks & it seems to be working out well at the moment. When we left Sydney, we did a quick stop at Bondi Beach. It was a little out of our way, but we couldnt not see it. A very nice, but busy surfing beach. Our first night [View Full Entry]
