Jamie and I are travelling for 5 months starting January 7th 2010. Our itinerary includes: Iceland, France, Poland, London, India, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii.
(NOTE: this is a temporary entry because there are still heaps more photos we have, but we have to go white water rafting in 30 minutes!!!) We only had 12 days in the massive country of Australia so we were limited to areas around Sydney in New South Wales. However, that didn't stop us from having an awesome time. The first couple days we were a bit culture shocked after coming from a month and a half in south east asia. When we checked in to our hostel in Sydney on the first night we paid all 3 nights and a key deposit which was $90 each...very shocking when we were paying $3 each in SE Asia for a private room with satellite tv! we also had an "its a small world" moment when we ran ... read more
After discovering we had some extra time before heading to Singapore, (due to being kicked out of Thailand when our Visa expired after 30 days in the country) we thought why not stop in Malaysia... oh the conveniences of travelling! We arrived at 5am in Kuala Lumpur and wandered the dark and desolate streets until we found a man who was not only able to speak english, but also very street savy. He directed us to Wheelers Guesthouse, which we had been loooking for. We got there, put our bags in storage and went to McDonalds for some comfort food waiting for a room to become availabe at 11am. We were also allowed to nap in the dorm room at Wheelers until a room opened up, very friendly receptionist. Other than the Petronas Towers and the ... read more
We've spent 7 days in Kathmandu, and 16 days trekking in the Himalaya...and we still have 3 more days in the craziness that is Kathmandu. Kathmandu has been interesting and enjoyable, but the constant noise, insane streets, and completely different standards of cleanliness have left us looking forward to our next destination - Thailand. We hope to find some peace on the beach. I'll try to give a brief re-cap of our trek to Everest Base Camp. It was long ride, 16 days or a half month hiking all day then crowding around a fire at night and trying to sleep in -5C rooms. Some lodges didn't have an indoor bathroom, so a 30m walk at night was necessary for those not willing to use a water bottle. I have to say this would have been ... read more
With our time in Poland coming to a close tomorrow, we are now 10% in to our trip. Our stay here has been quiet, cold, smokey (people are allowed to smoke inside), but still very rewarding. We had an informative and eye-opening visit to the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau - which was a main reason for stopping in Poland. A short train ride to the town Wieliczka to see the salt mine was a unexpected enjoyment! The Poles that we encountered were all very kind and warm, even though some look to have a rough outer shell. Overall, we had a great and relaxing 6 days in Poland. Next stop, London England for 2 nights.... read more
We have had an awesome time in Paris, and a very large reason for this was our friends at Oblats de Marie Immaculée. We can't thank you enough for your hospitality. We had a great time meeting all of you!... read more
