Dear readers, What follows was not meant to happen... An extra month in a country that was not included in the original plan: Indonesia. Moreover, Max and Jems, the 2 other Mineros had stopped travelling, so I was on my own. A lonesome experience described below. Legian, Bali: It had been 6 months I had left Asia and from the very first dinner, I felt I was back in this world of tasty flavours and marvellous scents. Back also to this world where streets are overcrowded by vehicles that seem to be willing to climb on each other so they might be able to earn these precious minutes nobody knows whether they really worth the energy spent. Last but not least for a long-term traveler, I was also back to a country where the cost of ... read more

Hello everyone, this is the last article of our trip which has now ended since mid-March. Every good thing comes to an end... Airlie Beach, Whitsundays islands, Queensland Marco came back from Thailand to meet us and of course we celebrated his return by having a traditional apero. But not too late, as we needed to wake up early the next morning to go on a boat cruise for 2 days. Ethan was our skipper and 5 other persons were on our 10m long boat. We could enjoy a little bit of sunshine and a great snorkelling. It really felt we were swimming in an aquarium spotting a fish called "Elvis" by locals, giant turtles... However, we had to wear wetsuits to protect ourselves from deadly jelly fishes. The boat owner was Italian, meaning we ... read more

If you carefully read the previous article, you should know we have now been in Australia for the past 3 weeks. So here is the story of our trip so far. Sydney, New South Wales Sydney was the meeting point with Seb, Jems' brother, and Marco, another Minero, who were going to share our experience in Australia. We stayed in Bondi Beach, the "place to be" in Sydney, if not in Australia. Unfortunately we could not swim and enjoy the beach side for 2 reasons: first, the day we landed, there was a shark attack in Bondi Beach where a surfer lost his arm (ce qui nous a fait conclure que Bondi Beach, "ca coute un bras!" dans tous les sens du terme); secondly, rainy clouds deterred (dissuader) us from having a bath. However, we ... read more

Hi there! Here is the last article about the journey of Los Mineros in South America. We just landed this morning in Sydney, Australia. Jet lag is painful:14h time difference between Chile and Australia. However, our loyalty to our dear readers helps us telling you what follows. El Calafate, Santa Cruz, Argentina We will skip the theft story as you already read about it in the previous entry. But there was more, and more beautiful indeed. We went to admire the incredible glaciar Perito Moreno. Its figures are just amazing: 14km long, 60m high at its end when the ice is falling into the lake. Its colour is changing from blue to white depending on the light. Even if the weather was not as good as we expected, the boat trip on the lake was ... read more

Los mineros are back for a new entry. The first one of 2009, we hope you enjoyed the end of 2008. Happy new year to everyone. Many things happened to us during the last 3 weeks. Some good and some bad ones... First, we would like to thank the people who have created the "Los mineros group" on facebook. Here are the details of our trip in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. Villa Gesell & Puerto Madryn, Chubut Province (Eastern part of Patagonia): We decided to stop on the east coast to rest for few days in Villa Gesell. A bit disappointed by the place as it was too windy and cold to swim. Moreover our only investment was not as good as we expected. Indeed our tent is too small and not very resistant ... read more

Ola, Ola, here is the last article of Los Mineros in 2008. Thanks for your continuous support. You are almost 700 persons to have read our last entry. No doubt, one day, we´ll become famous! To increase our popularity, you can also rate our pictures, so we´ll be on the home page of the website. It looks nothing for you, but it would be a great achievement for us. Thanks in advance. San Pedro de Atacama, Chile: We decided to spend few days in the Atacama desert, the driest in the world. San Pedro de Atacama was our only stop in Chile this time but it was much more expensive than what we expected, especially coming from Bolivia. Therefore, we could not do as many excursions as we planned. Not a big loss though as ... read more

Thansk for your comments in the previous post. This article will be the last one about Bolivia. We are now in San Pedro de Atacama in Chile. It´s with sadness we left this beautiful country. Sucre, Chuquisaca Department: Sucre is the culltural capital of Bolivia also called "the white city". After the huge effort done during our ascent of the Huayna Potosi, we decided to relax in this city full of museums and famous for its universities. As usual after a trek, we celebrate the achievement in a bar. This time we ended up in a night club full of students. We had a great time, but wearing the mustach did not really help us... We had a very good insight of the Bolivian past by visiting "la casa de la libertad". Bolivia has lost ... read more

Here is the 7th post. First of all, Max joined us in La Paz on November, 17th: los Mineros are now a complete team and here is the first part of our Bolivian trip. We heard from people that they could not read our previous entries. So, here is the link to see all of them : La Paz, La Paz Department: This city is the highest capital in the world, 3800m (12467 feet) above the sea level. In order to get a good idea of the city you have to picture it: 1.7 millions people living at 3800m surrounded by high mountains (Illimani : 6362m, Illampu 6362m, Huayna Potosi:6088m and few others...). The landscape seems unreal and the streets are all steep. With the lack of oxygen and urban pollution at this altitude, it ... read more

Only one week later and already a new entry (6th article). A special thought for our Monday morning readers... We wanted to end our Peruvian experience before the arrival of the third Minero: Maxime. Arequipa & Cotahuasi Canyon: Arequipa is the second biggest city in Peru. Its historical center is very charming with the beautiful Plaza de Armas and the old Santa Catarina Monaster which was built in 1580 like a small city (inlcuding a square, streets & churches...). The city is a good starting point for trekking in the Colca and Cotahuasi canyons. Colca is the most accessible one and is known to be the second deepest canyon in the world after Cotahuasi. Cotahuasi is located at 400km from Arequipa. We eventually picked the Cotahuasi Canyon as it was the deepest one and the ... read more

Here is the fifth article about our south americain trip... Sorry for the map, it does not work so you will get one in the next article. Cusco, Peru: The travel from Puerto Maldonado to Cusco was an unexpected & unforgettable experience. As we said in the previous article, the trip takes 15 hours for 400 km. The road is only praticable outside the rainy season. We took a night bus. After few hours, everyone was trying to sleep when suddenly weird noises woke us up. It sounded like someone was drumming on the bus´roof. Actually it was not a drummer but huge stones falling. The bus eventually stopped and one passenger walked to the front holding with both hands a massive stone. It went through the roof making a large hole. Fortunately no one was ... read more
