So after staying in Alice Springs for a week I headed back to Brisbane with the intention of staying for two days..... This turned into a week as soon as I heard about the Riverfire festival happening on the next Saturday. This is part of the Brisbane festival and there are fireworks set along the river and from the tops of the tallest buildings along the river. It was well to be expected :D Between landing in Brisbane and leaving I didn't really have a lot to do. I met a group of nice English guys and girls who were working and staying at the hostel. I had brought a guitar in Alice and we spent most of the time playing with it. One day I did visit Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary with Matthew (a boy ... read more

So I’ve just got back from a tour around Uluru, Kings Canyon and Kata Tjuta. It was amazing! We started from Alice Springs early Sunday morning and reached Kings Canyon by midday. After we had climbed and wandered around Kings we went to collect firewood for the night. Along the way we saw wild camels, these aren’t native but central Australia has the largest population of wild camels. That night we slept under the stars in our swags and sleeping bags. We cooked dinner on the camp fire and had a couple of beers, or in my case wine. The night sky was so clear you could see soo many stars, shooting stars and the Milky Way. It was very exciting! Around the camp we found loads of little hopping mice which were very cute. The ... read more

I've only had two days to play around in Sydney and I wish I had more but everything is pretty expensive to do. The first day I took a wander down Pitt Street to Sydney Opera House and around 'The Rocks' was a nice day to chill out and get my barrings. Today I went over to Blue Mountains to climb around the mountains, was pretty hard work but so worth it. The views were incredible, quite similar to the green/white mountains in the states I guess. Our tour guide told us so much history about the natives and the plant/wildlife out there. It was very interesting. To get back up the mountain we went on the worlds steepest train which used to be used for getting the coal out of the valley. We also saw ... read more

So we went back to Krabi (a while ago now) and did a few more island trips then travelled to Phuket to see yet more beautiful islands including the set for James bond 'The man with the golden gun' We only had a couple of days there as we had to leave the country as we had only 15days on the visa. After we got kicked out of Thailand we got a flight to Singapore. Singapore is really nice but quite pricey. We did manage to find a few cheap things to do such as shopping in China town or Little India. On the last two days we went to Sentosa and spent some pretty pennies. The first day we visited the underwater world and the second day we visited Universal Studio. We really want to ... read more

So we have spent the last week exploring the beaches at Ao Nang. Krabi and Ko Phi Phi. The first day we had in Krabi we did the four island trip which pretty much does what it says on the tin. There were 7 of us english people on the trip and quite a few little monkeys. We liked it so much Chris and I are going back to do it again :) A couple of days later we kayaked around Krabi. This started really peaceful with a couple of monkeys walking on our kayaks but then we reached the sea..... this was much harder. Tree and Jenny managed to beach themselves on the only bit of sand in sight and everyone got very wet! Next we took a very messy boat to Ko Phi Phi ... read more

Asia » Laos » West » Vang Vieng August 5th 2010

From Chiang Mai we travelled over to Laos into Luang Prabang. The bus ride which was meant to take 10hrs ended up taking 18hrs as we broke down for a while but luckily this meant we didn't have to pay for accomodation for the night :) Once in Luang Prabang we only had a day to explore so we went to the waterfall. The best waterfall we had seen so far is in Luang Prabang, there was a rope swing at the bottom and an amazing view from the top. It had everything. Next we travelled to Vang Vieng for Tubing where we travelled down the river on a rubber ring stopping parts of the way down to play on trapize type swings, these were scary but really fun :) We only stayed for two days ... read more

We spent all of two days in Da Lat exploring in and around on a motorbike tour. Well the others had pretty motorbikes and I was left with the moped because i'm the smallest! On the first day we visited the coffee plantation, silk factory, flower farm, rice wine making and Elephant waterfall which was a lot of fun and not very touristy at all which was really nice. The second day was a lot more touristy as we went on a mini rollercoaster down to a waterfall and did our first elephant riding. It was really fun to travel around on the motorbikes through the moutain roads, it really is the only way to see Da Lat. After Da Lat we headed to Ho Chi Minh City to visit the Cu Chi but unfortunatly it ... read more

So.. it's been a while since I last updated this so this might be a long one. So we arrived in Sandakan and visited Sepilok Orangutan rehabilitation centre where we saw a couple of orangutans and a lot of smaller more cheeky monkeys. It was a really nice day out although one of the hottest days so far! The next day was almost as hot so we decided to walk up the hill to this nice hotel where we could swim in their pool. The moment we could there a thunder storm started so we couldn't actually go in the pool but we did cool off a bit. After this we decided to stop off in Sukau in the jungle on the way back to Kota Kinabalu where we did a boat cruise down the Kinabatangan ... read more

We decided it was a good idea to rent a bike from our hotel to ride to the coast and spend our last day in Bali we spent at Tannah Lot which is 'the rocky temple' on the coast. Luckily our idea paid off and we really enjoyed exploring a bit more of Bali as well as seeing the sun set behind this temple. We spent one day in Kota Kinabalu in East Malaysia but because of the weather we decided to travel down to Sandakan to see monkeys, turtles and waterfalls. Kota Kinabalu is really nice and reminds me a lot of the USA (apart from driving on the left side of the road). The plan is to spend three days here and then go back to KK later in the week when the sun ... read more

So its our last day in Bali tomorrow, were excited about moving on but we will miss Bali, its so nice and relaxing (apart from being dragged into all the little shops and being forced to buy everything!! lol) We have not really done a great deal, mainly relaxing in the pool or watching the sunsets on the beach. Next stop Kota Kinabulu, where the travelling really starts ... read more
