Ok so we made it into Chile into the middle of the desert for New Year... we found one of the only rooms left in town..and headed to see what was about. Not much only a town with 2 streets then we bumped into friends from London would you believe. We bumped into them again later and brought in the new year with them which was great to swap stories and see familiar faces. New Years ever is like Guy Fawkes they burn loads of stuffed dolls, not quite sure why!! Our room we discovered was the last one left as backed on to night club open till 7am. Was ok as we didn´t get in till 3.30pm but once the alcohol induced sleep wore off it was pain pain pain...... read more

Hola.....sorry it has taken me so long to write another entry, we have been no where long enough or in the middle of the desert. Well after we finished the Inca trail we caught the train (10 hours but amazing scenery) to Puno on the edge of lake Titicaca on the Peruvian side...well a total dump hence no entry of its own and a horrible hostel the only good thing to say is we got a 3 course meal and a coke for a quid...bargin or what, not that you would have been impressed if it was served up at home but when on a budget its amazing what you find acceptable. Anyway we swiftly left Puno and headed for Bolivia and to Copacabana for Christmas which is the other end of Lake Titicaca. It was ... read more

Amazing amazing amazing....even if it was like Duke of Edinburgh. We have had a great four days full of all sorts. We packed our bags ready to go. For those of you who know about my D of E days it was all feeling rather too similar and close for comfort. The difference being this time I had a boyfriend that was more than willing to carry the main rucksack with clothes and sleeping bags in I am sure I will hear about it in days to come...in other words my own personal porter. We awoke at 5am ready to be collected at 6am and it was tipping it down....great we thought. It took us 3 hours by bus to get to Km82 where we were starting. The bus took us through some remote little villages ... read more

Cusco....well we finally made it after a long and painful 14 hour bus ride. The road was just round and round and up and up and a very uncomfortable bus. Cusco is a really nice little town with a lovely main square where you are offered anything from a wooden pot, finger puppets, paintings, shoe shine and lots of other stuff. We have been here for 4 days the first 2 we struggled with the altitude as it is 3400m so we just wondered round drinking Coca tea which is what they recommend for altitude sickness. We have stayed in a really nice little hostel. Today we went Horseriding around Cusco and got absolutely soaked and it wasn´t that exciting. Oh well we are only here to acclimatize and get ready for the Inca Trail which ... read more

We have stayed in Huacachina for 3 days. We came by bus from Lima. We stayed at a beautiful hostel surrounded by sand dunes. It was more like a hotel than a hostel with a swimming pool a little bit of luxury. We have been Dune buggying and sandboarding which was amazing fun just up and down on the sand dunes. Sandboarding is a lot slower than snowboarding much to Deans disappoint. He tried to hold his own trials for the Welsh Sandboarding team.......need I say more. We are now leaving after a few days of chilling out and heading off on another night bus to Cusco. Only 14 hours this time instead of 28.... read more

We have made it to Peru, after an agonising 28 and half hour bus ride. It wasn't quite as bad as it sounds as we had big chairs that were like arm chairs that reclined so we could sleep. We crossed the border no problem I expected it to be a lot more hairy. As we travelled out of Ecuador we saw miles and miles of Banana plantations. The scenery varied and we got to go through some really small market towns and see how the majority of people in South America live. We wouldn't have seen this if we had flown. The small towns are fasinating it is just one main street with market stall after market stall some market stalls are just piled high with hundreds of watermelons. When travelling through Peru to get ... read more

Well we have just finished the Galapgos Islands. It was absolutly breath taking. I wasn't sure what to expect but we loved it. We sailed around on a boat called 'Sulidae' which was an old pirate ship. We visted lots of different Islands. We walked along pure white beaches with hundreds of sea lions all over the place and they didn't mind us being around at all. On one Island we got to snorkel with them and sea turtles. The water was freezing mind, even with a wet suit:) My favourite thing were birds called the Blue footed Boobie.... The food on the boat was also great don't think we have ever eaten so well. After 4 nights at sea we were a bit wobbly when we got off. We are now recahrging our batteries before ... read more

Well we have had a great 2 days so far apart from guess what ......... you will be pleased to know it has rained both days and is quite cold. That cold in fact that we both had to sleep in Thermals last night ( a beautiful sight) and we are sat writing this in 2 jumpers:) Yesterday we headed to the Equator. It was quite an adventure getting there on the local buses but we made it. We tried to balance the egg and it is a myth it doesn´t work!! Tomorrow we are off to the Galapagos in search of some warmer weather. Quito has been fun and the people very friendly but we are looking forward to moving on. xx ... read more
