Demons v Kangroos Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne » MCG
Irene's Mom and Dad arrived today so to integrate them into Melbourne society (and so they could participate in the most talked about subject) we brought them to an AFL game at the 'G! We had the requisite beer and bun (thanks Sonnie), and tried to encourage the screaming at the referees that is Steve and Sonnie’s favourite occupation. As the Demon’s weren’t faring too well against the Kangeroos Irene realised that it must be because we were sitting a row up from our “lucky seats”, as we moved down to Row S, we got two goals in quick succession…Go Davy. Jackie and I decided to have a few drinks in the Long Room where they have the nicest cocktail - Orginal Sin! Apple with Cinnamon sugar around the edge! The others arrived a while later but we decided to move onto Velour, a tacky little bar out the back of my building. Surprisingly we bumped into Jake, a guy who goes around massaging people in pubs and then asking for money - he is part of some company called Angels. The annoying thing is, the first night we met him in Kitten Club Sonnie and Irene tried to sell me to [View Full Entry]

Crown Casino Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne » Crown Casino
Met the lads in Gareth's hostel, had a few bevs before hitting the Crown. Was a pretty lucky night with Ian and Gareth winning! Gareth won like eleven straight hands at blackjack....either getting blackjack or 21! Met Irene on Smith Street after, she had just done her first shift with Frank in his new cafe bar. And had also met the guy who one of the characters out of The World's Fastest Indian is based on. All the families turned up for the grand opening and Irene got talking to this guy for ages...he was the rivial biker that gave Anthony [View Full Entry]

We went to see Melbourne versus Carlton at Telstra, Sonnie got us seats in the Medallion Club which was really nice, lovely sunny day and everything. Would have been absolutely brilliant if only Melbourne had won! Losing to the team at the bottom of the ladder is never good! We then went to try and get The Castle - the quintessential Australian movie. Of course this turned out to be no simple task and we had to go to three different shops to get it, one of which had the rudest staff ever and just obviously did not want me to [View Full Entry]

Last Train to Freo Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne » CBD
We went to see Last Train to Freo in the Forum as part of the Melbourne Film Festival. The film is told in real time, using just the one location, the train, to act out the drama. It deals with five individuals who discover they are not who they think they are. It was a really tense film to watch, and some of the humour went over us as it was real Aussie. Parts were absolutely hilarious though. At the end the director, writer and cast had a Q&A and met people from the audience which was really nice. We went [View Full Entry]

Demons v Doggies Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne » MCG
We went to the 'G today (surprise on a Sunday!) to watch Demons beat the Doggies much to Noel's disappointment. Mind Steve uncharacteristically was extremely gentlemanly and refined the whole match. I don't think he told the referees he knew where they lived once - of course Irene made up for this by saying she would kill them all and shouting encouragement to the players like “Just kill them”, “Kick him”. What can you do with a giant finger?
After the match..

Meet Annie and Dave on Brunswick and ended up in Cape Cafe dancing to hip hop and early 90's music. Irene had a great chat with a Tazzie man about how she was a private investigator and was based in Oz as there was more work there but she was considering moving to Taz as they seem to cut up bodies a lot over there. This was based on Toby's story regarding the mad family (known all over Tazzie apparently), where the mother died and the father chopped her up as he didn't want the kids to see her dead. We got into Metro after selling our spare ticket to a very grateful girl at the front. Irene went to put our coats away and got directed and redirected a million times...not so happy about it when she finally got back! We found a place pretty near the stage - after some weird girl seemed to find it a problem if someone stood in front of her....at a GIG! Opening with "How To Be Dead" from their "Final Straw" album, Snow Patrol took the stage. Lead singer Gary Lightbody obviously likes to talk during the show.....however he was pretty funny most [View Full Entry]

St. Jerome's Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne » City Centre
St. Jerome's in a long alley way behind Myer, 7 Caledonian Lane, is this tiny little bar with a beer garden that is actually based in an alley way with kind of muslin covering about three stories up....not brilliant on a rainy night but a really cool venue. You walk down this tiny little alley way, and when I say alley I mean alley not cool little laneway. It has big garbage dumpsters along the side and the stench is quite overwhelming as you walk down towards St. Jerome’s. However when you get there it is totally worth it, the front [View Full Entry]
