After finishing up school for the year (2010) I have decided to catch up on these a bit. I will start with my trip from last summer. Summer 2009, I traveled to Seattle, Washington to visit a friend that lives there. During that week Seattle had the hottest weather EVER! Of course I left Iowa's 70 degree weather for 100 degree heat in Seattle, just my luck! I spent about a week at my friend's house while she and her family showed me around the city and I also visited the University of Washington Law School. After first arriving at SeaTac Airport I was greated by Allison who immediately wisked me away to the parking garage and her car where we proceded to weave in and out of the Seattle traffic toward her house. While we ... read more

We took a train from Prague to Berlin, it took a few hours, but was a good trip to just relax. We arrived at Haupbanhauf rail station and had to transfer to the inner city trains to go to our hotel. After we checked in our whole group took a quick walking tour where we saw the TV tower that is in Alexander Platz we were going to take a trip up to the top, and I would recommend it because you have very good views of the city, but it is kind of pricey. Next we made our way to Museum Island. We had to take a tram there, but once we arrived we were showed around the museums, there are over 30 museums in Berlin and they all looked great, but unfortunately I only ... read more

My spring break was organized through school and consisted of 3 days in Prague, Czech Republic and 4 days in Berlin, Germany. I will create two separate entries because of the amount of pictures and for organizational reasons. We left at the end of the last week in March via Birmingham airport to Prague. We left pretty early and most of us were feeling that uncertainty that comes with having just packed all of our possessions in boxes, placing them in storage and being virtually homeless for the next five weeks (of course depending on our individual plans about when to return to university). At the airport we met our tour guide Simon who, let me just say, was an interesting individual. He was very knowledgeable about what he was explaining and our destinations, but he ... read more

After my organized spring break trip through school I jumped on a plane to Oslo from Berlin. I wanted to spend some time up north in cooler weather and also wanted to see the mountains and fjords of Norway. My mother’s family is from there and some still live near Oslo. When my flight landed it was pretty late and I had to take a speed train from the airport into the city and then walk to my hostel from the train station. My hostel was near the center of the city, so it was easy to find with a good map and near the things I wanted to see. I was supposed to be there for 3 days, with one of those days a side trip to Drammen. The first morning I slept in a ... read more

Here are some links to marching videos when we performed for the Heart of America Band Festival. The pre-game is incomplete, but we only did half of it for this show. I am mostly back field, sorry the films are a bit far away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpnkxWOBr5w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4G12C-UZb4 and here is a picture link http://www.kansasdrumline.com/index/09photos.html#10 I have also added some pictures of my apartment, outings with friends, and of course from marching band. We had a senior day where all of the band seniors stood on the field and had their names announced over the loud speaker. I have been quite busy this semester and band had actually taken up most of my time. I am about to begin second semester and will be taking some new courses and working at the Study Abroad Office. Everyone, I hope ... read more

Since coming to England I have wanted to see the location where the movie Pride and Prejudice was filmed and it is located in the Peak district which I have also wanted to see. It wasn’t until my last week in England that I had a chance to plan a trip up to Chatsworth house to see it. The reason it took so long for me to go is that it kind of takes a bit of work to get there. First I took a train to Chesterfield. Once in Chesterfield I had to find further transportation to Chatsworth. The bus I needed to take to the next town over didn’t leave for about an hour so I walked around the town and saw the flea market set up in the middle square. People were selling ... read more

My friend Piper studied in France this spring while I was in England. During her spring break she and a couple of her friends were coming to England and they wanted to make a stop in Oxford, so I met them there as I hadn’t yet been. It was really nice to see her after all this time. I took the train to Oxford from Leicester early in the morning so we would have all day to spend together. After arriving early, I waited at the station for her while drinking a tea. Piper and her traveling friends arrived not too much later. We started our day by making our way through the quiet streets of Oxford towards the first of the Universities. Oxford does not have just one university, but several, each with their own ... read more

To all the wonderful patient (and some impatient) people who were waiting for me to finish my blogs, here is the beginning of the end. Sorry for the extreme delay, but not having internet over the summer kind of hindered my ONLINE blogging, and the library internet just couldn't keep up. But now that I am settled at school and have the first week under my belt (and have internet in my apartment) I will try to get these up as speedily as possible, honestly most of them are already written, it just takes a very long time to upload photos, so hang in there, it will get done, promise. My friend, Rebecca from KU, was taking part in a study program over spring break in London, so I went down for the weekend to visit ... read more

For those that don't know, I have been back in the States since April and have been working in Council Bluffs since May. Of course am just now getting my blog updated; mostly because I don't have internet at home to post them and also because I am a hard core procrastinator. It also takes quite a bit of time to upload pictures and videos, so bear with me as I try to finish these up! For the days before and the day of St. Patrick’s Day I went to Dublin, Ireland to celebrate the holiday in style. I left on Friday night for the airport in Birmingham because my flight left really early on Saturday morning. I spent a sleepless night in the airport; all the comfortable spots were taken by the time I had ... read more

This entry might be kind of boring. I am mostly talking about some things I have done around the town I am living in and some things I have done with friends. But since I cannot travel out of the country every weekend and I want to see some of England here are some of the things that occupy my time here. Sorry there are no country hopping adventures or anything scandalous in this entry, keep your fingers crossed for the next entry. Some of the other random things I have done around Leicester are visit a nearby town, go out with friends, and go shopping with the girls. Valentine’s Day weekend, while staying in Leicester I took the bus to uncharted territory with a couple of girls on my study abroad program. We took the ... read more
