Flights Abundent Asia » China » Sichuan » Chengdu
I finally got to Chengdu today after customs, 2 flights, baggage claims and checks, etc. i talked wtih a really nice lady on the plane who ended up helping me figure out how to get from place to place the cheapest. I turned my cell phone in to be checked out by Nokia and possibly fixed for a mere 150 kuai. Then I got to the train staiton and bought a ticket to Zhuzhou as the lady said I couldn't go directly to Changsha (the nearest city to Cam's parents home). I didn't even know where Zhuzhou was at first but [View Full Entry]

Finishing Trekking and Nepaling Asia » Nepal » Pokhara
Today we walked to Nayapul from Jhinu an 8 hour walk (very tiring). We finally got to see a beautiful view of the mountains which was nice. At lunch we stopped and played cards while waiting for our lunch ot come. I slid and fell down the stairs a bit only to be caught with a firm grasp by a man carrying something on his head. I got a sunburn from the intense heat and after lunch ended up having to put up my umbrella to protect me. The whole day Milan was about 20 minutes ahead of me so I [View Full Entry]

Relaxation amidst Long Trek Asia » Nepal » Jhuni
I feel really needy around here sometimes. I either have to purposely talk to people or find someone who wishes to atlk to me. The rest of the timeeveryone's speaking thier own separate languages that I don't understand or if I do understand they don't pertain to me. I've only met one Australian and one American the entire time I've been in Nepal. The other times that I find someone I understand in their language it's Chinese. Today was a very interesting day makign for an itneresting night. We walked 6 hours to the hot springs and then spent two hours [View Full Entry]

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day in the neighborhood yet we didn't get to see the sunrise. Instead I learned how to create my own version of a sleeping bag. I couldn't sleep as I didn't have a blanket so I took a sheet and wrapped it around my body and then zipped my arms up inside my jacket and put my hands in my armpits. This morning I came to learn they would have given me a blanket. But an experience is an experience and after doing that I slept fine so I'm not worrying. I've [View Full Entry]

"Some dance to remember" Asia » Nepal » Gorepani
"Some dance to remember, some dance to forget." This song is partially stuck in my head, even as the song has changed to Hindi in the background I've finally come to understand the true meaning of Cam's words as I sit here admist a place he would despise or would possibly remind him of his home. I'm missing him some now - had a dream of him last night although I'm not sure what it was about. He said that he'd see me in a year and to some extent the more I miss him the more it really does seem [View Full Entry]

Left, left, Left ryait, left Asia » Nepal » Uleri
And we're back to writing by candlelight with no electricty, phones or cars. In fact the only form of transportation besides your own two feet are someone else's feet and a donkey. What do I mean by someone else's feet? I mean someone else literally carrying you in a chair that's attached to their head - which I saw today. Today was my first day ever trekking - we walked 30km (15 miles) through the mountains over rocks mostly with the last 3 kilometers being straight (and I mean that literally) uphill. I'm fairly exhausted now but I managed to carry [View Full Entry]

The Happy Yet Short Umbrella Asia » Nepal » Pokhara
Tomorrow will be the start of a very interesting new experience for me, one that I've never had before so I will make this brief so as to not spoil the treat you'll be getting. Good-byes are a very strange thing. Binesh's sister didn't give me one, just said "you can go back to sleep" and I did. Binesh's mother invited me to come back any time and I thanked her. Binesh himself never said whether he wanted me to stay or not just said "this feels weird" and left with nothing more than a handshake. So I left today with [View Full Entry]

Eh ... What's up doc? Asia » Nepal » Chitwan
A long time ago my father told me that there might be places I would go in the world where I would have to tell the people I was from Canada and not the US. About two years ago this was almost true - I met a lot of people hostile towards Americans. But I've never pretended to be from Canada, and why should I? Just as I shouldn't have to try not to be while I shouldn't have to try not to be American. I don't support Bush at all so I need all the more to say I'm American [View Full Entry]

Today was a very tiring day filled with experiences in the jungle and small animals. This morning we took a nice peaceful canoe trip down the river and hiked through the jungle. Before we got into the canoe we saw a type of crocodile and some deer. In the river we saw some Kingfishers - beautiful birds. In the jungle we saw tiger prints, monkeys and rhino dung but not much else but jungle. I got leeched for the first time in my life on my ankle and after someone flicked it off ended up with a shoe full of blood [View Full Entry]

Royal? Chitwan Asia » Nepal » Chitwan
Today I had a great time getting into my new environment - a half Indian, half Costa Rican mix that is a bit strange at first. I took a bus really early in the morning to Royal Chitwan National Park. Before I got on the bus we were waiting to get on and of course getting haggled by people wanting us to buy things after about 2 minutes I settled into my usual habit of standing in one place and staring away from all of them and not answering. A man from Holland walked up trying to find the right bus [View Full Entry]
