When the drought broke Of the thousands of photos of our travels there are just a handful of Denise and I together at a view to die for. This for you may be one such pic...for the ages...maybe for the family album. I wouldn't shut my eyes on such a precarious place but hey...you get the photo! Maybe it should be called "When the drought broke"...but only time will tell if that is so.
When the drought broke... Hello Dave! I know what you mean, I didn't want to look away for a second! It was hard enough we had to for the photo, but trust me when I say our gaze was stuck on that scene forever after. What a great place. Thank you for the title recommendation, I might have to take you up on that :)
South Africa So good to read your blog again. Please keep them coming. Loved reading this because we will be in S.A. later this year. Following your travels.
Hi there! Oh what a great coincidence! And thank you, I will definitely keep them coming. We loved our time in South Africa, very safe and the people are really kind :) I hope you have an incredible time there soon!
Thank you!! Thanks Bob! These past 2-3 years have been the busiest and most transformative of our lives, I missed tavelling so much and it really does feel great to be back on the road. Thank you for following along and supporting our blogs!
Balloon Festival We have something in common! I lived in Canyon Creek, Richardson for seven years and both my girls were born there in the 80s. I, too, loved the balloon festival and I'm glad it is still going!
Awesome! Well hello fellow former Texas resident! It's so cool that we have that in common, as well as our love for the Plano Balloon festival! That's so cool :)
Champion baby traveller I'm so glad to read that your first family trip went so well, Lia seems like a natural traveller! And job well done on selling Portland - now I want to move there too :)
Hi!! :) Hi Ren and Andrew! Yes, I just love cool places like that, especially the outdoors aspect which we don't get much here living in the city! I hope our daughter will be just as well behaved on our next trip but I'm going to try not to jinx it lol :)
First Trip! I remember taking our first trips with our small children. We found that, while we definitely gave a few things up, our experiences seeing things through their eyes more than made up for anything we missed. And what a cutie you guys have! We spent a day in Portland not long ago and agree with all the things you say about it. We loved the Oregon Coast and Multnomah Falls were amazing. Congratulations on your "first" successful trip as a family. I'm sure it is just the first of many!
Hello :) Thank you Nanci! I'm so glad you got to experience the same things we did in Oregon, the coast was my favorite! And I absolutely agree about having to give up a few things on your travels with kids... but that they are replaced by lovely moments with your family instead.
Fabulous recommendations! You've mastered the art of travel--congratulations! What excellent tips for potential adventurers! I don't budget, but I've just developed a "feeling sense" both at home and on the road for what I can afford and need--not much. Everything second-hand if possible--as you said, best for the planet and generally, quite fine and self-catering, but not missing out on unforgettable experiences. Congrats also on your upcoming baby! Having a baby in tow is so perfect for traveling in Latin America and Asia, where children are adored, noises are accepted and your little one will bring you friendly attention and the front of lines. Thanks for sharing these great ideas, and best wishes with your expanding family!
Hi!!! :) Hello Tara! Thank you for the compliment and thanks for congratulating me on the baby and your best wishes! We may not all budget the exact same way, but we all have our own unique way of saving for those unforgettable experiences (as you said) because we know it's so worth it! Thanks for the advice on Asia and South America, I have a feeling one of those will be our next continents to visit!
Savings I live in Argentina. I have 2 jobs. I know what saving means. I have traveled all through Latin America and Asia on a budget. Also in the Middle East. I am not interested in buying things I don´t need. I buy second hand clothes or even shoes. I never go out for a meal. I spend most of the time working long hours and spending nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I stay in hostels, I travel with my medium size backpack, I kkep in a ziploc bag something I don´t eat from my breakfast which can be also my lunch. I pack cookies, some chocolate and chewing gum from home, also instant soup or small tins with paté or something like that. There are thousands of tips for everybody.
Passionate about travel You've described how we run our finances. We don't budget our trips as organized as you but we follow a similar path. It is great knowing when you come back from a trip there is zero debt as you paid as you went. The world is small and we must see as much as we can. I'm sure your little one (congratulations) will be trailing behind you soon enough backpack in place. I'm certain this blog will help a lot of people struggling with finances and those who don't know how to get started on their travels. Great blog.
Thank you! Thanks Dave and Merry J! I think that once you realize what your passion is, you should prioritize it. In our case, it's obviously travel! I love that we all have that in common :)
Congratulations! I have enjoyed reading this blog. I also get asked how can we travel so much and I always answer that it's a matter of priorities: we barely go out for dinners or buy clothes or anything that is not a necessity... Congratulations on your pregnancy! We've have started to travel again after getting used to having a baby at home and now that she is two, we have finally managed to travel a bit more often again. I've never heard of Dave Ramsey before, but I will google him right now.
Hello! Thanks! :) Thank you so much denidax !! I am so excited you messaged me, I need more family travel influences, especially now. I used to think that I needed to cram a lifetime of travels in before my kids arrived, but I am now determined to continue. I hope your travels with your two year old are just as amazing, if not more! Definitely give Dave Ramsey a google. His podcasts are really inspiring, lots of great testimonials.
Hola! My name is Jennifer and my husband/travel-partner-in-crime is Victor. We are young professionals who love traveling on our time off of work and find it to be the most rewarding experience to share together as a couple. Unlike many of the bloggers here that take year long trips, we represent those travelers that work, save, and take 1-3 week long trips around the world. Then work, save and do it all over again!
We just added two little girls to our tribe, and are excited for this new life adventure!... full info
