We spent just one night at the Holiday Inn Express in Vicksburg, Mississippi. See we had been living in Tuscaloosa, AL for about nine months and just wanted a night away. So we decided on Vicksburg because of the small factory outlet mall and the five major casinos that are there. We left Tuscaloosa rather early in the morning and stopped in Meridian, MS, took the dog into PetCO and we went to Ross Dress For Less for a few minutes and then we all were back on the road. We had one other quick stop at the Flying J in Jackson for fuel and that was about it. It took about 31/2 to 4 hours to get to Vicksburg from Tuscaloosa. We checked into the hotel around 1:00 pm. We were a little bit early, ... read more

Just the past week, we spent a couple of days in Columbus, MS Columbus is a decent looking little city, right on the border of Alabama. We spent two nights at the Holiday Inn in Columbus, located on Highway 45 North. Did a little shopping at the Leigh Mall, a huge Wal-Mart there, antique shopping, and plenty to choose from in the way of restaurants. Something worth seeing in Columbus are the many plantation homes. Also, there are some great views of the Tombigbee river. The city of Columbus, MS has also been experiencing a somewhat growth with a rise in population due to retirees moving there. ... read more

We went to the RIU Naiboa for one week. We were there just last month in March of 2009, and it wasn't all that great. The staff at the RIu was wonderful. The problems with the RIU was that it is so far away from anywhere else that it is terrible. I guess that I may have got spoiled being in places like the Turks and Caicos Islands, Guyana, and Aruba, where we could just walk outside of our hotel/resort and walk around the city or town and see some sites or go to a souvenir shop, have a drink, or anything else. Here in Bavaro, we were stuck. There really wasn't anywhere else to walk to. All of the shopping was to be done at the resort, they had their own little street called Caribbean ... read more

We just got back from Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. The total time that we were there was eleven days, and we had a great time!!!!! Here's how it is. It is a very clean and quiet island. The two main roads are Grace Bay Road, which is where the vast majority of touristy things are, and Leeward Highway. The latter is a very busy highway with very little to no sidewalk to walk on; we know first hand!!!!! The currency that is used on the island is the US Dollar, although Turks and Caicos is still a British Protectorate. Many of the businesses on the island are owned by either Americans, Candadians, or British citizens. The majority of the workers for the hotels are from all over, a relatively small percentage are from the Turks ... read more

One Week In Nassau

In August of 2008, we spent one week in Nassau. The hotel that we stayed at was the Wyndham Crystal Palace Hotel and Casino, which is right next door to the Sheraton in the Cable Beach area of Nassau. The resort was just fine, except for the very small and shallow water beach. The swimming pool was large and came equipped with an attended water-slide. There is a large casino on property with a couple of bars in the casino. They use the US dollar often in the Bahamas or the Bahamian dollar, it really doesn't matter at all because they are 1/1. There is no benefit on exchanging money from US to Bahamian dollars. We ate a couple of times at the buffett in the hotel which is kind of on the pricy side, but ... read more

We spent one week on the Condado district of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and really enjoyed it. There are really no surprises when going to Puerto Rico, as in culture. Everything that on the mainland of the US is also in Puerto Rico, plus. You name it, it's in Puerto Rico, from Chili's Restaurants, Chicago Uno Pizzeria, casinos huge shopping malls, Wal-Mart, Target, Barnes and Noble. It's all there. In the Condado district it is quite safe to walk around pretty much at any hour of the day or night. There are major resort hotels right on the beach, such as Radisson, Marriott, Condado Plaza. In the way of places to eat there are numerous places in the area, many right on Ashford Avenue, whichis the main street. One place that I often recommend to people ... read more

Last month, we just got back from Georgetown, Guyana. The vacation that we had there was very interesting. The Guyanese people were very friendly, before we left we had heard that Georgetown was dangerous; we did not experience any problems. The hotel that we stayed at for one week was the Le Meridien Pegasus, which is a division of Starwood Hotels (Sheraton). It is a beautiful hotel that has a very large swimming pool. There are three restaurants at this hotel. The main bar is near the pool and stays open until after midnight. Nearby the hotel is the Palm Court restaurant, about five or six blocks from the Le Meridien, good food and decent price. The bar at the Palm Court stays open until 3:00 am.... read more

In April of this year (2007) we spent one-week in Condado area of San Juan. It was a great vacation. There is plenty to do in the Condado area. The beaches are very clean, with plenty around them. Meaning that there are bars, cafes, restaurants, shopping. There are a vast number of hotels to choose from in the Condado area. There are several major chains with casinos, such as Marriott, Radisson, the Condado Plaza, and the Diamond Palace Hotel all of which have casinos. The Condado area is very safe, there are police around on motorcycles round the clock; therefore, walking around at anytime of the day or night is not an issue. Honestly, we had a better time there than I had expected. ... read more

We are going to Aruba in three weeks. My question is besides the most obvious, the beach, booze, casinos, what is there to do in Aruba? For example, are there any tourist type sites and/or attractions? Hoping that we have a great time there. We are flying on US Air from Syracuse, NY (SYR) to Aruba (AUA).... read more
