Japanese Beverages (1) 1.) Lipton Apple Tea - I enjoyed this very much after a long day of walking and biking. 2.) Aquarius - This was highly recommended to me by Will so it was the first drink I tried to get my hands on once I got here. Luckily, it's sold in nearly every vending machine and convenience store so it wasn't hard to find by any means. At first I thought it was a soda because it's sold in cans; however, there is no carbonation and it's actually a sports drink. It has a citrus flavor but it's not as strong as Gatorade. Apparently there are a few different flavors available but I have only seen the original/plain version. I'll have to keep my eyes open for the others (Active Diet, Freestyle, Real-Pro, Vitamin ... read more

BOQ Room Here are some pictures of my BOQ room. It's a LOT bigger than I thought it would be. When I first contacted the BOQ manager a couple months ago, I was told that it would only be 180 square feet. Expecting the worst (imagining the possibility of being able to cook dinner, go to the bathroom, and make my bed all at the same time), I was very satisfied when I walked into my room. There is tons of closet space so all my clothes will fit in with no problem. The kitchen is also fully equiped (minus a microwave which I'll buy tomorrow) with lots of counterspace. It'll be great to have a little room to spread out my utensils while cooking. There is also TONS of shelf space. All my kitchen supplies ... read more

I Want to Ride my Bicycle Bicycle bicycle bicycle I want to ride my bicycle bicycle bicycle I want to ride my bicycle I want to ride my bike I want to ride my bicycle I want to ride it where I like Oh the joys of living overseas. I've decided to avoid buying a car if possible. Even though they are cheap, I live less than 5 minutes from the building I work at and getting some extra exercise couldn't hurt, right? Although I'll still want to go around the island to see things, I figured I can use public buses, walk or bicycle. After mentioning all this to my sponsor, he recommended I go to a place called Sports Depo which is about 2 miles south of where I live. So this afternoon, right ... read more

Once upon a time...

Once upon a time... My journey started off at the Raleigh/Durham Airport at 0740 in the morning on 28 May 2008. I got my tickets for my flight to Chicago/O'Hare and also tickets to my connecting flight in Tokyo/Narita Airport. I verified with the woman behind the ticket counter to make sure my checked luggage was going all the way to Okinawa, and I was reassured that it won't need to be rechecked in Tokyo. Awesome...that'll be once less thing to worry about for my trip (or so I think). The plane ride to Chicago was fairly short and I slept the entire time (making up for lost sleep the night before because I was so excited). Upon arriving in Chicago, I check the monitors to find the next gate I'll need to go to. In ... read more
