Ok, so i think the blog is up and running again... i guess we'll see... I think i am still missing the blog entry of my lat day in Chintsa, so here again is the short version: I went on a mountain bike ride with two of my roommates from Bucaneers and our guide through the Xhosa villages that are in this area. We visited Mama Tofus village, got a taste of Xhosa culture, signing and dancing, and mingled with the kids of the village, before we continued our bike ride through the rather hilly area around Chintsa. An awesome time, [View Full Entry]

Today has been a rather uneventful day spent in the Baz Bus (SA backpacking bus system that takes you from hostel to hostel along the East Coast). After leaing Cape Town in the rain, the skies started to clear up the further north we got, and i arrived in Knysa in the afternoon under clear blue skies... and they are supposed to stay that way!! Jipeeh! The drive was spectacular, first through farm land, then some mountains, until we headed east again towards the Ocean and drove along the Coast, where the wind was still going strong and the waves were [View Full Entry]

I will have to keep this blog short, because i am running out of internet time, but here it is in a nutshell. I went on a township tour in the morning, and what an experience that was. Actually hard to put into words... walking through the slums os Cape Town... having a "home made beer of corn and maze in a squatters shag, visiting a kindergarten with the most beautiful children, seeing the living conditions in a "hostel" where 16 families live in 6 rooms with one toilet, one cold water faucet, and a small room that serves as a [View Full Entry]

After the beautiful day yesterday, the wind at night, and the rain beating against the window was a great indication of what the day was about to have in store.. well in terms of weather at least... so it poured all day, the wind just howled, and actually flooded a number of roads around the Cape, and did quite a lot of damage in the townships (but more on that in the next blog) so today, i went on a tour through the winecountry around the Eastern Cape and the Stellenbosh area, since it seems like a good idea to stay [View Full Entry]

So i made it safe and sound after a forver long flight and two days of travel i arrived in Cape Town at 9:30 p.m local time. Pouring rain and thunder and lightning proved that is was in fact winter in South Africa, and that the winds around here can howl with the best of them! But since i am on vacation, who cares about the weather , so after a cool "good night " beer at the hostel bar, i hit the pillow ready for some much needed sleep. There is nothing like waking up to brilliant sunshine, and especially [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone, and so the Blog begins again! I arrived in heavy fog after being rerouted from DC to Toronto in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Thursday evening of last week to start the next chapter of the "gap year" ala Steffi. After picking my parents up from the airport on early Friday morning (they were traveling the Canadian West for the last 2 weeks) we headed South towards "our" lake about 30 km from Yarmouth . Once here, time stands still, and we totally immerse ourselves in the tranquility of the Lake, the birds singing, the Loons howling, the Hummingbirds humming, [View Full Entry]

ok, so we got up again at the crack of dawn (by now you may have figured out that this vacation is about experiences and not really slepping in ) in order to be the first ones at the Remarkable Rocks inside Flinders Chase National Park. So after leaving our lovely farm, we drove the 20 km to the Rocks. During the drive, we had the rare chance to see a Koala cross the street just in front of us and then hustle off in to the trees, and we saw Kangaroos and Wallaby again as they were trying to [View Full Entry]

After the night out with my friends from Geneva, the end of day light savings time here in Australia could not come at a more convenient time! The extra hour of sleep can make quite the difference when you have to get up at 5:30 am!! Needless to say, it was an early start nevertheless, and after a 2 hour drive to the ferry and then another hour on the boat, I arrived on Kangaroo Island at around 10:15 am. This time i was travelling with Adventure tours again, since they were such a good operator at Uluru already. Our [View Full Entry]

Koala checking us out!

After a day of rain yesterday, that was spend rather productively with sleeping in , reading, souvenir shopping, running errands and a visit to the Central Market here in Adelaide, i woke up to splendind sunshine today. After a nice jog along the river front and a healthy breakfast, I decided to spend the day in Glenelg and check out the beach volleyball of the Fire and Police Games. To get to the nice beach side supurb of Glenelg, you have to ride the old vintage tram for about 25 minutes ( very cool) , and it pretty much stops [View Full Entry]

After a great breakfast at the Bistro, i met my sea kayak guide Stewart and the one other "client" for the trip, Karen from England, and we set out to walk down to the beach to get into our sea kayaks to explore the rainforest, the mangrove forests and the treacherous waves around Cape Tribulation via the ocean. Karen and i quickly found our rhythm and off we went.... first through the mangroves , then out to the open sea, where we realized quickly why Captain Cook gave the Cape the name Tribulation... well he actually named it such because of [View Full Entry]
