so after exploring stone town, I headed a bit further north and towards the indian ocena coast of Zanzibar for a bit of beach time! and wow, was it ever relaxing check out www.matemwebeach.net and you will find the best little beach village/resort I have ever seen! 17 little bungalows with straw roofs, right on the beach, nestled in this little fishing village, the friendliest staff, and nothing to do but read, watch the sunrise in the morning, lounge around, snorkle or dive, watch the local kids run around and splash around in the turqoise water, marvel at the women who [View Full Entry]

seagrass drying in the wind

So after you have maybe sifted through all the safari pictures, you might understand that after all that dust and dryness in the Serengeti, and after the efforts of climing Kili, a little R & R was in order, and so Zanzibar it was... an amazing island- so different from the rest of Tanzania, so beautiful, and so here are a few pictures of the life in the Old Stone Town. I truly felt i was transplanted into the land of sultans and trading! [View Full Entry]

Hello, so still no pictures... , sorry, but this is Africa, and things are not always that convenient . so now just a quick update! Lake Manyara, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater offered everything you imagined an African safari would offer.... lionesses with cubs, male lions roaring at night, hippos cooling off in the rivers, elephants rubbing on trees, a leopard in the tree with the tail hanging down over the branch and the fresh kill of a gazelle to be devoured, a lioness draging the fresh kill of a zebra into the shade so she can feed her young cubs, [View Full Entry]

I made it !!! Africa » Tanzania » North » Mount Kilimanjaro
YIPEEH! I made it up the highest free standing mountain in the world, to the top of Uhuru Peak on Mt. Kilimanjaro to 5895m. What an experience. Here are teh pictures now! enjoy Currently, we are headed to the Serengeti, and computers are hard to come by .anyhow, the climb was probably one of the hardest things i have ever done, and one of the best experiences ever! 7 days on the mountain, camping every night, and then the push on the last day, or should i say night, since we left camp shortly after midnight to be at the top [View Full Entry]

Kili- here I come Africa » Tanzania » North » Moshi
It is now Sunday evening, and my marvelous time as a volunteer in Africa is already coming to an end! Amazing how fast the time flew! I have loved every minute of it, and will miss the wonderful staff here at the CCS home base and the great people who were volunteering with me! Hopefully our path will cross again down the road! The last week at Magareza Day Care was super special! Due to exams in the elementary school we did not actually have the kids on Wednesday and Thursday, and so Vicky had insisted that i should take the [View Full Entry]

Hello, wow, time just flies when you are having fun! This is already the last week at the volunteer placement, and i am getting quite sad to have to say good bye to "my " kids already ! the adventures to come are certainly exciting however, i could easily stay a bit longer to continue to help out and just experience the way of life in Moshi... well, there will be a nex time for sure. So anyhow, this week, on Monday evening, we (all volunteers) were invited to an african dinner and dance celebration at a local vocational school, where [View Full Entry]

After a rather hectic week at the day care center, the weekend came just in time! Hectic, you wonder, well, part of the hectic part on Friday was that our head teacher Vicky (the one that speaks a little english, had her day off, so I was by myself, well the lady that cooks the porridge for the kids was also there... ) so anyway if you can picture 90 little boys and girls on a Friday, and then try to picture to control them from hitting, biting, chasing, ... eachother, let alone try to have them enage in creatice activity...
