After all of the buses and touring around with our friend Urian, we both became hermits in our casita. It felt so nice to not have anywhere to be (school is on break for me), or anything that needed to be done, and so our days have been very quiet this past week. Oversleeping is never a good way to start a trip...but alas, we did. Our bus was leaving from the San Miguel station at 7:00am on the dot, and at 6:30am we were walking out our door worrying if there were even taxis in our little neighborhood that early in the morning. Friday was the day that we had been looking forward to for weeks. We had saved enough money to treat each other to a day at "The Spa," in Centro. The day started with Ronnie surprising me with a bunch of red and white carnations. The flowers themselves were amazing, but so was the fact the Ronnie was able to go out and buy them without speaking any Spanish and dragging Byron along. No easy task I am sure! Then off to Centro! Ronnie and I love the Olympics. Seeing so many countries compete in so many different sports...the pressure of it all! Sadly, we don't really get the Olympics here in English. Eleanor does and she was nice enough to invite us down to watch Phelps break many records and whenever we felt like watching it in the evenings, but in general, we can't really watch it in the casita...so we found our new favorite afternoon event...going to an expat bar to order tacos, burgers, fries, beer and tequila while watching the Olympics in Spanish on a big screen tv. I think the tallest person I have ever seen was a famous basketball player when I was a kid, who stood 7’7. Well, I have met some people that are even taller. Actually they are puppets. It all started when my partner in Spanish class was telling me how great this group was that was visiting SMA for the Camber Music Festival. They were called Synergy Brass. Something very sad has happened...after over a week of taking a ton of pictures of my dad and I's adventures, my memory card in my digital camera broke! NOOOO! So, well, I don't have a lot of pictures. Dad arrived on August 1st, which is always funny to Ronnie and I as we said no visitors in July and the first opportunity my pops gets, he is here. We had decided it was time to get out of town for a day and when we saw there was a fundraiser trip going to Mineral de Pozos, we knew our time had come. The money raised was going to rebuild the town Jaridin and in doing so, a bus ride and a tour of 5 homes opened up to us. The day before, Friday, I had once again become very sick. Spanish classes have been hard. They cram a lot of knowledge into the 2 and a half week course. We have learned 100 verbs over the last week and a half. I have lots of homework every night and often ask myself…”What was I thinking!?” But, even as stubborn as I am getting, every day I am able to understand more and more. Even recognizing words that quickly fly out of my neighbor’s mouths…I am starting to understand and even reply a little. This is what has made the whole studying thing worth it. This morning, we knew we were in for a treat. Our good friend Dianne, the owner of the Casa Luna B&B invited us to join her for breakfast at her inn. Breakfast is always served at 9:00am so we had be sure we were up early enough to catch a cab down to El Centro. When we got to the door and rang the bell, a peep-door opened up and a lady asked us in Spanish how she could help us.
