Ah-Che Dos O South America » Bolivia » La Paz Department » La Paz
February is water balloon month in South America. During the month of carnaval, kids throw water at each other. I am taking refuge in an internet cafe because, just outside hundreds of youngsters are at war in the town plaza. NO WORRIES.... I was able to purchase a counterfeit adidas jumpsuit. Last night I went to a concert entitled ¨Grunge is not dead.¨ It´s true, grunge is not dead, because we thought it died with Kurt Cobain. But I saw Kurt Cobain perform last night at Club Epitaph in La Paz, Bolivia. Sure he sung the lyrics to his own songs [View Full Entry]

It´s been a while. Geez, we don´t really talk any more (are we still cool?) On Monday I left Macchu Picchu... I got into Cuzco in the evening, ate nachos (Jack´s Cafe in Cuzco is the best restaurant, straight up, don´t let the guys in Procudores convince you that 10 soles is a good meal.) and headed to the bus station. I took an overnight bus to Puno, with a group of Chileans. They convinced me to continue on to Copacabana, Bolivia. I am infatuated with being in two places at once, so I took all of these photos of me [View Full Entry]

Macchu Picchu South America » Peru » Cusco » Machu Picchu
I spent a couple of days in Cuzco. I did the tourist circuit... saw some museums, ruins, movies, clubs, etcetera. I hung out with more Canadians. This Chilean girl said I looked like Michael Moore, it hurt my feelings. On Saturday morning I left for Macchu Picchu. The country of Peru has perhaps one of the best schemes going on. They make it impossible to travel to one of the world´s most visited historical sites by road. It is only accessible by train, at which they can charge any price. We took a cab as close as we could to the [View Full Entry]

¿Llama or Alpaca?

This guy was sent on a journey to find the navel of the earth. He found it nine thousand feet above sea level in the Andes. Cuzco is a great town. It was once the capital of the Incan empire, than a colonial outpost, and now its an international travel destination because of it´s proximity to Macchu Picchu. On Tuesday, I checked out of my hotel in Trujillo at 2pm. I spent the next eight hours wandering the streets of that colonial town. I tried this new game called: pretend you don´t speak English (or Spanish). These guys who seemed like [View Full Entry]

Chan Chan.
Chan Chan.
I am in the middle of something significant.
You know that song by the Buena Vista Social Club: Chan Chan. Yeah, I like that song. You know that ancient city by the Chimu People: Chan Chan. Yeah, I like that ancient city. I went to the ruins fifteen minutes from Trujillo. They were pretty impressive, I mean no pyramids or anything, but big walls. At one time sixty thousand people lived here. I didn´t want to pay the six dollars for a tour guide, so I sort of lurked behind groups of English-speaking tourists. I heard that when the ruler of the city died, hundreds of teenage girls killed [View Full Entry]

I was in Piura from Friday through Sunday. I hung out with Zandi and her Peace Corps friends. They had a barbecue, I ate cow heart, it wasn´t bad. That town was laid back. I didn´t do much... I watched a movie, ate some food, hung out... enjoyable. Last night I came to Trujillo... the biggest town in northern Peru. It seems like a good place, they´ve got ruins and shit. I´ve been feeling kind of sick... (rhymes with ¨craveller´s biahrea¨) so I´m taking it easy today... I just tried to upload my pictures... but the computer erased them all... it [View Full Entry]

I made my way from Costa Rica to Lima, Peru on wednesday. The flight was quick, like three hours. When I got to Peru I was picked up by a woman in her sixties. She took me to her house, gave me food, and let me take a nap. She was the aunt of one of my mom´s friends. We then took a car and drove around Lima. Its a huge place with lots of things going on. We went to a lookout point where you can see the entire city, the ocean, and the desolate desert that surrounds it. When [View Full Entry]

Last night I checked into a new hostel in Jaco. The owner was really cool. He was a former: Pentecostal Preacher, Septic Tank Installer (Shit Man), Rockstar, Drug addict. And a current: Schizophrenic hostel owner. His being schizophrenic is the reason that he owns a hostel. After years of counseling he finally convinced the United States government that he wasn´t capable of holding a job. They started sending him 1200 a month, which is incidentally enough to own a successful hostel in Jaco beach Costa Rica. He got into preaching because he heard voices... like the Devil and God and shi [View Full Entry]

My last night in the mountains, and my last night with the Swisses was fun. We ate pizza and then went to a few bars. The owner of one of the bars spoke english fluently, because when he was sixteen he jumped the border and lived in America for a while. He was also a coyote, the guy that helps people get in the US. He told some cool stories... it costs 90,000 USD for a Chinese family to sneak into the US. (ATTN: Chinese Families, I'll do it for 85,000.) We went to another bar, where I pretended to be [View Full Entry]

Javelína y Yo.
Javelína y Yo.
This is me pointing to a wild boar.
En route to my journeys on the South American continent I stopped in Costa Rica. I didn´t get a travel guide because I was only going to be here for a week. So I got off the plane and realized that I had no idea what I was doing. Also I hadn´t slept on the overnight flight. I got to the baggage pickup, and saw a cash machine, so I tried to take out some money. Not knowing the exchange rate I took what seemed like a big amount: ONE THOUSAND COLONES. It turned out to be less than five dollars. [View Full Entry]
