Connecticut was all about friends. We were happy to see the Parkers again and to meet many new friends at the local congregations as well as at Walkill and Patterson Bethel. Walkill and Patterson It's always good to know someone on the inside, that's how we got to see many 'behind the scenes' extras! We loved seeing the Audio Visual AS WELL AS THE Art departments where all the paintings, dramas, dvds and cds are made! So much effort goes into a single picture or illustration on our printed pages, every little detail from the makeup, hairstyles, clothing and all the props- all is planned and thought through with tons of research done before it is published. I now have a much deeper appreciation for the literature we receive and will remember all those who work so ... read more

Our last day in New York... We started by getting up early, yes out the door by 5am to see what exactly happens at 5am on a Tuesday morning... The streets were quiet, only a few joggers out and of course the cleaners- cleaning the Ruby Red Stairs on top of the TKTS Booth...exactly where we were aiming to get a few photos done! Seems like they take for ever to clean those stairs so we walked to the nearest Starbucks and got ourselves some Coffee and found other things to take photos of.. Brooklyn Bethel We took a cab to Brooklyn Bethel and it only cost about $18 from Times Square, not bad considering there were 4 of us sharing the cost! It was so exciting seeing the "Watchtower" building as we drove over Brooklyn ... read more

Monday morning we continued our 'hop-on hop-off sightseeing tour', this time we did the Uptown Loop and it stopped at Central Park West, Lincoln Center, Dakota Apartments, Grant's Tomb (- also where the bus conveniently broke down! A replacement bus sent out to rescue the poor stranded tourists roasting in the hot sun!), The Museum Mile and Fith avenue, I'm sure there were other points of interest that I missed, anyway this Loop wasn't as exciting as the previous two trips we did..but still worthwhile doing. It was the 18th annual 'TASTES OF TIMES SQUARE' festival where all the top restaurants in Times Square serve up their favorite dishes, so they close off a section of the road, squeeze in some 34 'mini kitchens' and then squash in a few thousand people and there you have ... read more

Up very early to catch the 8am hop-on-hop-off topless bus. We chose to do a 48hr tour on the New York Sightseeing Bus, this allows you to hop on and off when and where you like in Manhattan for 48 hours!(At their stops) We started with the Downtown Loop, as this would be busier later on in the day as well as on Mondays when the city is gridlocked with traffic.. Some of the attractions on this ride was Times Square, Empire state Building, Rockefeller Plaza, Radio City, Soho, Little Italy, China Town, The Flatiron Building, Lower East side and Twin Towers Site and I'm sure alot more that I can't remember.. It is an emotional experience standing close to the Twin Tower site, thinking back of all the footage we've seen over the years, you ... read more

It is impossible to try and summarize New York in one blog entry..we did so much, saw so much..and took so many photos! so I will do it day by day, some pictures of the same scene may appear more than once and this is because I'm using a lot of Jason's photos, his artistic skill and snazzy camera put my 'muk-en-druk' pix to shame..so hope you get a feel for New York.. Saturday I thought I've seen it all and that I wouldn't be very excited by what NYC has to offer, how wrong I was! As we came through the tunnel and I saw the first glimpses of the New York sky line I had butteflies doing cartwheels in my tummy! Oh I was so excited and I wasn't the only one! Washington was full of memorial monuments and we didn't have time to do all that we wanted to do and go see all the well known memorials.. We did see the White House from distance, seems like security has been beefed up since Bin Laden's death and one can't get too close to important buildings.. Wasgington seemed like an outdoor museum full of historic and political pieces displayed in roads, parks and sidewalks, a very different feel to some of the other cities we have been to. I have very little time and still have a whole lot to write about..so I might fill in on Washington on a later date...but the pics should give you an idea... chat later x... read more

Savannah The drive from West Palm Beach to Savannah was only about 6hours and it seemed to just fly by. We pulled over at a beautiful rest stop for a picnic under the tall shady trees. This picnic was long overdue, and we have been schlepping the 3 cooler bags all the way from Somerset West, so it was time to let them live a little! At the Georgia Welcome Centre I saw a Laurel Oak Tree and I could not resist hugging it! Three and a half years later I still have brief moments where I see something in a shop and think “oh I’ll get that for mum”, but then suddenly as if being hit by a 10 ton truck I realise that she is not around anymore and I have to move on ... read more

Convention Time! We went to check out the convention centre in West Palm Beach on Thursday to make sure of the times and so on. Yay, smiley friendly faces! They can’t believe that we are all the way from Africa and so the chatterings begin.. The hall used to be a rundown basketball court known as the ‘leaky tepee’, and in 2001 J.W bought it and fixed it up. Once they saw it in its new revamped state they wanted it back and hoped that we would have concerts and basketball games in it..well, they lost out and there will be none of that in there! CONVENTION Friday morning we arrived early, got our seats and the first day flew by! The Program was wonderful with some nice surprises..(I won’t go into detail, wait till yours ... read more

Another Fun filled day! We left our Hotel at 7:20am and only got back 10:30pm...very tired! I dreamed about Disney when I was a little girl and now I've seen it!! It is a fantasy land where every kids' dreams come true, and I thought of that little girl I used to be and I wish I could tell her that one day she will see it! Yay!!! And now as a Big girl I still enjoyed it and I can almost say it's just how I imagined it to be! The park was very full for a Monday morning...lots of little kids running around and millions of strollers and prams everywhere! There are enough rides and shows to keep the kids and adults busy. We enjoyed Space Mountain, (only two days ago a woman was ... read more
