Pack up, load up and and get comfy because we are hitting the road for another 8 hour drive to our next stop... We all seemed a little foggy on this particular morning, must have been that darn fire alarm! (DARN?? since when do I say DARN?? American influence... very contagious!) Anyway onward and forward:) We crossed a few amazing bridges and saw interesting little towns scattered about as Uncle Dave said "you don't want to blink, 'cos you will miss it" WE were now on the West Coast, the scenery was changing and we managed to get a pics of the rocky outcrops leading into the sea, it is so amazingly gorgeous I cant't get enough of it! Soon we arrived at our beach front accomodation and it had breathtaking views over the beach, within ... read more

Passports ready because we are heading for the border!!!! This border que wasn’t anything like the South African – Mozambique border, the que was much shorter and there were no hawkers weaving between the cars trying to sell you fake paperwork.. So we were called into the office to get our photos and fingerprints taken, this should have been a quick in and out affair, BUT the guy processing our entry didn’t look to sure of himself and often called another officer to ask for help. The problem came with the British Passport…their system gave them a warning on my passport!! HELLO!!!!???? It gave a warning message as if I had a ‘refused visa’, but I didn’t…so what’s the dealio? About an hour later and digging deeper into their data base they could clear me for ... read more

So, we have been away for a week now and we have seen so much and I can't believe we still have another 6 weeks to go! The sites we have seen in a week is what I would normally expect to see in an entire holiday! Up early this morning to pack and hit the road again towards the States but first we have to stop off in Kelowna, (what a cool name!) for a halfway break 'cos on thursday it's going to be another 9 hour drive to the border...OH DEAR!! NOT AGAIN!!! Let's hope they don't find us suspicious looking this time! Well, atleast we will have mother hen nearby incase we get stuck! So today we passed the most gorgeous lakes, yip they were the emerald blue ones and silly naa-naaa me ... read more

Well, what can I say? This place, absolutely every corner and tiny little hole is so breathtaking, that I can't even find the words to describe how awesome it is. Snow capped mountains, green Pine trees and white frozen lakes and here and there a melting blue lake is what we see all around us. We haven't seen any bears yet but have seen Elk and Caribo, so we will keep looking:) Every now and then it snows a little and it doesn't even feel that cold outside so it's ok to go messing around in the snow... The cabins so far are ....once again....AWESOME!!..... They have electric fire places and most of the time we are boiling hot inside, ooohhhh and we have a jaquzzi upstairs with a big window overlooking the forrest! So far we ... read more

Wow, the second flight..of 14 hours was a very long flight! Our seats made it very enjoyable and it felt like a little holiday before our holiday..But there was only so much I could eat and so many movies I could watch untill my legs became restless and I was longing for solid ground! We hit really bad turbulance just before land as we were descending through the clouds..and I'm not just saying this because I absolutely HATE turbulance, but there were medics waiting on the ground waiting for our flight..there was a medical emergency on board, I don't know exactly what happened but I do know it was very scary and I was bracing myself with feet and arms up against the seat in front and next to me, so anyone with a heart or ... read more

So we survived the first flight, it was only a 9 hour flight from Cape Town to Dubai, I could not have asked for a smoother flight and even managed to sleep for an hour! No headaches, only sniffy noses from the aircon and recycled airplane air!! eeuw!! We seem to be constantly eating on Emirates...not that I'm complaining of course! I'm rethinking my travelblog at this point..maybe I should rename it "My Food Blog" or "Eating Blog"! I love food and I'm looking forward to experiencing new tastes and textures. So let's see what the next few weeks have to offer:) We have a few hours to spend here at Dubai airport, so we are going to explore the shopping area and then get to our Boarding gate that will take us to our next ... read more

Relaxing in Upington Colette and Dave Taylor decided to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary at Kuthula Lodge in Upington and invited a few friends along for a long weekend. Kuthula Lodge was like a little lush paradise in the dessert, with its deep green grass and lush Kameeldoring bome contrasting against the red sand dunes and blue skies. It was really hot during the day, making it really easy to spend a lot of time in and around their crystal clear pool. The De Klerk family are very hospitable and made sure we were settled and looked after our every need, Ma Beulah cooked the most amazing roast lamb for us (fresh from their farm). We relaxed and enjoyed many laughs. On Saturday we had a braai in the Lapa entertainment area of the lodge. The ... read more

Now this was REAL camping, not for sissies! We had to take all the water we would need for 5 days, that would be for drinking, cooking and cleaning.... We also made loo time easier by taking with a 'toilet'... but Zeedah wasn't convinced.. perhaps next time?? On this trip we were joined by Grant and Vouna, Zeedah, Nick and Wanda. This is Grant and Vouna's first camping trip with us and even rented a 4x4 to try out the fun...more about that later... Our first night we stopped over at pet friendly Beaverlac in the Cedarberg region, about 25km from Porterville. They do not book campsites, so first come first serve, and thankfully there weren't a lot of people there so we parked off under a few trees... After unpacking and setting up our tents we ... read more

We decided to visit Malplaas near Botrivier in the Overberg for our 8th wedding anniversary in 2008, the name seemed to suit us, Malplaas is pet friendly, so Kylie & parents as well as Honey & parents went to check it out for a weekend.. this is how it went.. We arrived on the farm and went straight to the main house to check in but there was no one around,we waited a few minutes till the landlandy arrived and showed us to the main guest thatched house on top of the hill far away from other guests. It sleeps 6 adults and 2 kids and is very noticeably ORANGE!!!! It was decorated with random orange objects, some scary and others just plain weird.. we were however looking forward to the cosy fireplace After unpacking and ... read more
