Eggs 1 & 2 We ended up staying in Bangkok for three days and 4 nights, and really enjoyed it. A number of folks go there and have not a lot of good things to say - focussing on the pollution, the noise, the traffic etc - and it's true, these exist in excess. However, being the awkward b'tards that we are, we quite took to the place. On our second day, we visited the Grand Palace ( which was under repair with lots of scaffolding unfortunately, but grand indeed nonetheless), Wat Po, and the other Wat we cant remember the [View Full Entry]

Egg #2 We finally made it out of the UK after hanging around for weeks on end getting in everyone's way! Having travelled for about 18 hours we checked into our hotel at local time 5pm and went to sleep for 12 hours. We're staying in this place called the Royal Hotel - bit old and run down but very clean and has a nice wee pool, very close to the Grand Palace and Khao San Road where all the serious travellers hang out. Got up at 5am - breakfast buffet at 5:30am (hello - what happened there- up before 12 [View Full Entry]

Egg #2. It's me again, with a little update from La Rochelle, on the West coast of France about half way up. Unfortunately I don’t have any near death experiences to tell you about this time, but I’ll do my best to make something up if I feel that its getting a bit tame. La Rochelle is a med sized harbour town. How to describe La Rochelle?……. I’d say: nautical, fresh, pretty, well maintained, sunny, pleasant, nautical, white, nautical, bright, breezy, nautical. And just erring slightly on the side of ‘retirement home’. So, what’s [View Full Entry]

Egg # 2 Hi-de-hi! (ho-de-ho)……. Booze / Bikes / Harbours……… Mr McCabe is correct – they don’t go too well together – and here’s the story: First night in San Sebastian and we were out for a nice leisurely stroll along the sea front promenade known as La Concha. T’was a beautiful evening, air was breezy, sea was kind-of-a choppy, sun was setting and there was a lovely golden light bouncing off all the buildings and waves. As we were heading toward the old quarter, we noticed that there was a free bike rental stall in oper [View Full Entry]

Sunset over La Concha Bay

Egg No. 1 here. The title of this blog is as far as my understanding of Euskara extends I'm afraid - I think it means "Good morning, San Sebastian!" in Basque - but it may not, so my apologies to the vast swathes of Basques who - I'm sure - read this blog. Either way it makes little difference since, by the time we managed to find our way out of Pamplona towards the Basque Country it was very much no longer morning at all. Since most visitors to Pamplona are chased out of town by a herd of bulls, maybe [View Full Entry]

Huevos Numero dos: Hola! A blog a day keeps the doctor away! We found an internet gaff which uploads the photos PDQ so am taking advantage of this over next couple of days. Drive through the 'pair of knees' was totally amazing. We stopped several times to savour the fresh air, take in the splendid views and listen to the Heidi music coming from the ( what sounded like) millions of cow bells chinking along. I could almost see Clara in her wheelchair, Peter with his twisted little face, and the old Alm Uncle whittling away at bits of rough edged [View Full Entry]

Holy Moly! Europe » France » Midi-Pyrénées » Lourdes
Egg 2. Hi all . We left Toulouse on the 14th September and drove South toward the Pyrenees (pair of knees). The landscape quickly became mountainous once we cleared the outskirts of Toulouse - its was stunningly lush and green and super hilly. Actually at times - were it not for the brilliant sunshine - you might have mistaken the surroundings for Scotland. We had a short lunch stop in Lourdes, just to see what it was like really, as the Senior eggs have been a few times. The upper part of Lourdes seems just like any other southern French town. Oeuf no: deux. Bonjour Tour le Monde! ( I think that means '"hello everyone"). I´m adding some more photos of Toulouse - it was really fabby. Sxxx ps: In my defense re the last blog - I would definately have made better cassoulet - the meat vs haricot bean distribution was disproportionate in the one that I had the other night. ie: not enough sausage (thanks Claire! - you´ll know what I mean). Oeuf No. 1 Bonjour! As you will no doubt be able to tell, our grasp of the French language has improved dramatically in the days we have been in France (see French paragraphs previous). We spent yesterday driving from Blois to Toulouse after spending about an hour taking our tent down and drying it out over a hedge. There were a few scary moments for Egg No. 2 when insects of various sizes crawled out from under the ground sheet - but fortunately she could only run a few metres before she was out of puff and had to sit down. Lost in Loire! Europe » France
Egg # 2 Hi all - very short update from us today. We are in an internet cafe in Orleans and the keyboard is jumbled so naturally its going to take me ten years to type anything (Im bad enough under normal conditions!). Anyway - been en France for the last 5 days. We drove (Alan drove) down to Blois which is on the river Loire and we found a little campsite just below the main town. Its fine in terms of facilities, but ultra cheap at only 8 € a day. The weather has been amazing until today when it [View Full Entry]
