MY COUNTRY The love of field and coppice, Of green and shaded lanes. Of ordered woods and gardens Is running in your veins, Strong love of grey-blue distance Brown streams and soft dim skies I know but cannot share it, My love is otherwise. I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea, Her beauty and her terror - The wide brown land for me! A stark white ring-barked forest All tragic to the moon, The sapphire-misted mountains, The hot gold hush [View Full Entry]

Season's Greetings, Here we are in the last week of school before summer holidays!(?)! Hope all is well where you are. Gabe, as you can see by the pictures, has been busy. Michelle has returned from a very successful data gather in South Australia, and I am even picking up some casual teaching days. We are also taking advantage of living in an urban area by attending concerts/sporting events. Check out the videos below by two acts we saw recently, You Am I and the Living End. Arguably, they are Australia’s greatest live acts. Coming up on our concert calendar…The Wiggl [View Full Entry]

Hello Friends, Well here we are nearing the holiday season with unseasonable wet, summer weather. It's not very warm for our Green Christmas. Damn you Global Warming! It has been raining all week so I find myself missing both the sun and the snow simultaneously. Anyways, to get into a summery mood, I thought I'd share some of our favourite shots from the summer of 2008. Sorry no shots of the completed (finally) renos at 77 South. Where was the camera? While you’re at it check out this video from a really HOT Aussie band, the Living End. It is called [View Full Entry]

Here is part two of two. A blog so big they had to increase the space in cyberspace! Congratulations to Amanda Kennedy, Vancouver, our lucky blog reader who correctly answered last blogs Austrivia question. Amanda correctly answered that platypuses are the worlds only other monotreme - mammals who lay eggs (the other being echidnas). Your platypus is on its way. Get that terrarium ready. Good on ya, girl. The destination this blog is Uluru (Ayer's Rock) in the outback of Northern Territory. The quote below describes the rock better than I could and it comes from our bible of travel, [View Full Entry]

13 days, 3914 kms, 4 states, 1 territory, 3 drivers, two car rentals, 4 swags, 1 flight, 2 tents, 12 litres of water, $1.86/litre, a broken CD player, and no roadkill. Are we there yet? It all started in Sydney, where we picked up Brenda Dovick, a friend from Sioux Lookout. Brenda has 'gone walkabout' for a little R 'n' R (research & writing). We were driving to South Australia, but what road ever follows a straight line? So we thought we'd make a few stops along the way. This, my friends, was an epic journey. Here is Taro. We adopted her from the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
Just back from Surfer's Paradise, Queensland. Paradise City. The Gold Coast. Australia's Miami Beach. We are here for a long holiday weekend at the Crowne Plaza, Broadbeach. Michelle is a presenter at the annual conference of the The Australian Council for Adult Literacy, on behalf of the Sioux Hudson Literacy Council. Her's was the session they were all 'buzzing' about. People continue to be impressed by the great successes of the Sioux Hudson Literacy Centre. Gabe and I were along for the moral support.
