Greetings from Grand Junction, Colorado. It was a most interesting drive of 333 miles today from Limon to Grand Junction. I’m really glad I pressed on the previous days as I was able to drive beyond where any snow may be falling tonight. I topped of the fuel tank on the east side of Denver, made a stop at Camping World, and headed for the Rockies. DB did great in the mountains. I missed two good opportunities to capture some images today, but I did stop and take a few shots along the way. I had numerous rain and snow showers along the drive. I crossed the continental divide in the Eisenhower tunnel - the highest vehicular tunnel in the world at 11,000 feet. Wish I had pulled over when I exited the tunnel into the ... read more

Hello from Limon, CO. I covered many miles the past two days. After looking at the weather before I departed Branson, I decided to drive a little further Sunday and Monday so I wouldn’t have as many miles to go as I cross the Rockies on Tuesday. There’s been some rain with snow at the higher elevations of the mountains west of Denver today. I’m about 100 miles east of Denver. I hear some rain on the roof of the RV as a shower is passing over me right now. Looks like it will be no problems getting across the mountains tomorrow. Monday was VERY windy and was a tiring drive. The campground last night left a lot to be desired. Tonight I’m at a KOA. One of the nice things about stopping at a KOA; ... read more

You sure wouldn’t think we were having an economic crisis and high fuel prices looking around Branson. People are everywhere and traffic is bumper to bumper. The show I went to last night (Six) was packed and there were large crowds at the other shows where the KOA shuttle dropped folks off before I got to my theater. The decision to leave Ike at home is working out ok early in the journey. The KOA has a shuttle service and I’ve taken full advantage of it. Not only will they book tickets to shows (and get great seats - I was 8 rows from the stage last night), but you can arrange for a shuttle to other attractions around town. Friday I went to The Butterfly Palace (they had me there when it opened at 9 ... read more

Hello from Branson, MO. Overall it’s been a couple of uneventful days. Wednesday just north of Nashville a truck passed me and threw up a rock. I flinched, heard a ping and saw what I thought was a nice big chip in the windshield. I figured I would need to locate a repair shop and fix the chip before it spread and the windshield had to be replaced. Fortunately a bug just happened to splatter on the windshield at the same time and that’s what I saw (unless it was a REALLY hard shelled bug and sounded like a rock). I discovered all was ok when I washed the windshield at lunch in preparation for afternoon showers which I did encounter just before my evening stop. The bugs were very bad on Wednesday but there were ... read more

Hello from Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Campground in Nashville, TN. We are about 1 1/2 miles from Opryland. I thought about either walking down to Opryland, or hoping on my bicycle (since I left Ike at home for this trip) but instead opted to do a few things around the RV and walked about 1/4 mile down to a steak restaurant for a bite of dinner. An easy and good start to the journey - beautiful weather and no traffic hassles. 307 miles today. Tomorrow we'll go to Van Buren, MO and on in to Branson Thursday. Both days should be fairly easy. I hope to get into Van Buren before any rain moves in. Think I'll encounter a passing shower or two tomorrow evening and/or Thursday morning. When I arrived at the campground I discovered ... read more

Hello from The Rally in Perry, GA. The Rally is one of the largest (if not the largest) RV rallies in the country. Today was the first day of the event. I began by getting a “tour” of the Georgia National Fairgrounds thanks to some of the volunteers not understanding the registration process. I followed the directions in my packet and went to the parking area for folks like me who aren’t camping in one of the lots surrounding the fairgrounds. When I asked where registration was, I was told to get back in my Jeep and drive to the other side of the facility to “will call”. I knew that didn’t sound right, but I went anyway. Turns out my instincts were correct - they sent me to the WRONG PLACE. Those folks sent me ... read more

It’s been another fun day in Georgia. I obviously don’t comprehend what I’m in for at the Rally the next couple of days. This morning there was a mass exodus from my campground with folks leaving to camp on the Georgia National Fairgrounds 14 miles north of here. There were some sights with electricity, but I think most will be dry camping. Of course dry camping in a modern RV is very little different than staying in a campground. You may need to run your generator some and watch to not fill your gray and black tanks, but they are large enough that several days without a sewer connection is not a big deal. When I passed by the site on my way to Macon, the RVs were lined up to “move in” to their campsites! ... read more

Welcome to day two of my journey down memory lane. Today was forecast to be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers so I opted to change around my outings around. Even though an overcast sky provides a great “softbox” for macro work, I decided I wanted to visit the gardens when it was sunny. So today I visited the Museum of Aviation at Robins AFB in Warner Robins, GA. Any of you who enjoy military history and aviation should definitely put Warner Robins (approximately 100 miles south of Atlanta) on your to visit list. http://www.museumofaviation.org/home.htm The two military training aircraft (well the ones they used 30 years ago when I was in pilot training smile) I flew were on display. They have lots of aircraft on display outside as well as 3 buildings with ... read more

Hello from Georgia. I finally made it out of service and out of Florida. I spent lot of time in Florida since the first of the year, but didn’t get to do any real sightseeing. Except for the bird photography workshop in the Titusville area I didn’t capture many images. Well today I finally got into the sightseeing and photography mode. I made a visit to Plains, GA and visited the Jimmy Carter National Historic Area. Not only did I get to explore “downtown” Plains, the train depot that was his campaign headquarters, the old Plains High School (which former President Carter attended) which is now a museum, but I also visited his boyhood farm home. In addition, I caught a glimpse of the Carter’s home since 1961 (where they currently live). I saw the Baptist, ... read more

Things I can learn from my dog. That’s the theme of my entry tonight. It’s Friday evening and a squall line of severe thunderstorms is approaching the Tampa area. Fortunately I am somewhat sheltered in my RV in the service bay. So DB is covered with only the very front getting a little wet from some blowing rain. Ike is parked in front. I’m hoping and praying we won’t have any damaging winds, hail, or tornadoes. But I feel like I’m a little better protected than if I was set up in a campground. Let me back up and see if I can recap the last few days. Wednesday they made pretty good progress with some of the smaller items that needed attention. We did end up staying in the rig in the service bay on ... read more
