** Hope Noone is confused but I just mixed up my photos for 17th and 18th. Now sorted ** Went the other way along the beach today, North along the lovely soft sand until we couldn’t walk any further. Easier walking along the harder sand at the water’s edge and then we can cool of as required with a refreshing paddle. Surprisingly my poor right knee doesn’t like the softer sand at the back of the beach, and boy of boy, is there a lot of soft sand round here. My knee says it is too lumpy and now my left knee says the same thing and had to put ice-packs on them last night so being careful today. Along the way there are several separate beach areas. Sunset Beach is one, not sure of the ... read more

We decided to take a walk along the beach, left goes to Colva. Checked at reception how much a taxi back should be in case we wanted to get one. 300 rupees. Best to know proper price as Goan taxi drivers have, it seems, a bad reputation for overcharging. Idea was to walk before the full heat of the sun so we set off at about 10 am after I had liberally slathered myself in suntan lotion. Lovely walk along the beach, nothing better for getting a bit of exercise and also an even tan. Note no suntan has hit my skin so far despite having been in India for 10 days. We stopped quite a lot really to look at things most especially the fishermen and their boats. We’ve seen similar boats in Sri Lanka. ... read more
Lovely beach seller. I didn't want to buy anything so gave her money for a photo instead. We shook hands on it.
Egret or heron ? Not sure, will check later
What I love about the Indians, who we like a lot, is that they love to have their photos taken either together or very often with us. If I point the camera at anyone and say "is it ok ?" they always pose themselves, smile and say Yes.

We checked out of the hotel in good time, before 8.30 am for our Air India flight to Goa. Had enquired as to the price of a hotel taxi to the airport at the hotel reception and was told it would be 2400 (£24) rupees. Given we came all way from Agra for 5500 in a hotel taxi we decided this was taking the mickey and said so. Receptionist agreed, quietly, and advised us to ask for a taxi to be called ‘from outside’ where price would be 600 (£6) rupees. That’s what we did and it was. Delhi traffic as expected, grid-locked in places which suddenly clears and we are on the way again. No problems at the airport apart from being redirected from the domestic gates to the international, even though it was a ... read more

15 02 18 Delhi Delights Another day of exploration in Delhi, this time in the old part of town. Old Delhi. This is the original city and very dissimilar to the wide, tree-lined and rather British boulevards of New Delhi. Old Delhi is the India we have become accustomed to. Noise; hustle and bustle; dusty always; mucky often; things in the road all squashed together: 2 wheeled, 4 wheeled, 2 legged, 4 legged and frequently same on the pavements too. We used the same tuk-tuk driver as previous day as he had been pretty reliable and also spoke good English. He was waiting outside the hotel for us and we had specified we needed to return by 3pm just so we didn’t accidentally find ourselves making any unwanted detours to carpet shops and the like. First ... read more

We had a plan for the day starting with which places we were going to visit. When we got where we were going we would pay the tuk-tuk driver and find another when we were ready to move on. Plan worked fine for phase one of the day as we took a tuk-tuk from the hotel to India Gate, paid 100 rupees and driver went on his way. Very busy place to be, food vendors everywhere and families out having fun. All very colourful and that was helped by a political rally taking place just by the gate in an area cordoned off and guarded by lot of police. Watched that for a while though had no idea who was speaking. The rally disbanded just as we were leaving so we were able to walk round ... read more

Time to move on, north to New Delhi. Checked out and the hotel staff checked the room first. Pleased they did, nearly left a pair of shoes. Cost me another 100 rupee tip. Taxi driver from previous trip collected us at the door and drove us to our next hotel, The Park, Connaught Place, New Delhi. Drive was nowhere near as interesting as the others we've made as it was pretty well door to door Expressway. This was nothing like the road we drove from Jaipur to Agra which had local roads running parallel along its length. This is a proper modern 3 lane motorway. It was also pretty empty as it is expensive so most drivers use the free and packed old local route. Driver paid 665 rupees plus a couple of smaller tolls along ... read more

Today was surely the highlight of highlights of sightseeing visits. What could possibly beat a visit to the Magnificent and Magical Taj Mahal. Tickets were purchased at home, online to avoid long ticket queues, but actually we really didn't see any. Interesting to note that we, as foreigners, pay 1000 rupees entrance while it is just 40 rupees for Indians. Perfectly fair. We wandered down the parade walk to the East Gate entrance. Was slightly dumbstruck when I was offered a wheelchair "for the 2 kilometres still to walk" (a Big untruth there, more like 1/4 km). I may be carrying my collapsible stick around but that is for use on the many stairs to be found here, some of which are often nastily and surprisingly deep. I Do Not need a wheelchair. Thanked the wheelchair ... read more

After a leisurely start, we are after all on holiday, we had breakfast (sadly and surprisingly only juice on offer is orange which Bob can't drink) then found our driver waiting at the hotel front door. It had been raining and we could only hope it wouldn't rain much more as, perhaps foolishly, when packing to come away, we considered the possibility of rain and discarded it and therefore our macs in sacs. We left Agra on the same totally unsurfaced road we came in on as we were heading for Fatehpur Sikri. Took us a good hour to get there and our driver had phoned ahead to book us a guide as he said we needed one here. Another Unesco World Heritage site and petrol / diesel vehicles are excluded so we had to drive ... read more

No specific sight-seeing tour today but a very interesting road trip by taxi. We were packed and ready by 9.30 so checked out of our very nice hotel, with promises of a 5 star Trip Advisor review and loaded our stuff into the waiting taxi, destination Agra. Slightly less frenetic on the road in the city than previous days, possibly because it's Saturday. Once away from Jaipur we took the Toll Road. Was assuming this would be something like a motorway but is more reminiscent of the main road south out of Bangkok where it runs as a dual carriageway alongside any local roads and the two frequently converge, which generally causes chaos. After 200 or more kilometres we are still none the wiser as to the rules of the road apart from it is supposed ... read more

Another brilliant day and blue sky sunny too. Perfect daytime temperature at about 24 degrees for sightseeing but the evening temperature could do with being a couple of degrees higher as need to wear a jacket against the evening chill and have not really come equipped for that. We were up and out bright and early for our trip to the Amber (Amer to the locals) Fort which is 11 km out of town. We booked a hotel taxi, same as previous day and in fact hadn't even paid him yet for yesterday as he didn't seem to care about when he got his money. Hard to tell where end of Jaipur is as it's quite a big sprawl, but when we spotted a camel being walked down the road we thought perhaps we were into ... read more
